What the Fuck is this shit.

I am massively disappointed with Ledley. I'm lost for words.

Not really. I don't fancy ruining his life over this. It's a touch and go subject and doing a smear campaign will probably lead to silly death threats etc. not worth it, lets all just be grown up about this.

Ledley talks quite openly in his book about racism, and the issues he had with it when he used to go and watch Millwall, and also the abuse he got when he was warming up as a sub against Aston Villa. I guess with this situation, he probably felt it was something he had to back.

I have no problems with him wanting to kick out aggressive, negative chants but when the word Yid get lumped in its not ok.

Yes but it has racist connotations no matter how much we disagree with how it is used. I'm not defending the banning of the Y word, just Ledley's involvement as I can see the stand that he is and has taken throughout his career on anything connected to being racist.

There isn't a smear campaign against Baddiel, the Baddiels (don't forget Ivor) are conducting one against Spurs fans and using an antisemitic style argument to do it (blaming the victim for the crimes committed against them).

The other thing that perplexes me is that are we really a race? If so who constitutes this race, is it just the Ashkenazim? Sephardim, Mizrahim, Maghrebim or a combination of all four? What about the Jews of Kaifeng, I'm pretty sure they're Asian and how about gentile converts, do they become a part of this race?

They're playing very fast and loose with the truth and the Guardian and the Beeb are lapping it up

As pointed out in that video - The 'Y-word is just as offensive as the N-word'.

Man I can't wait to see all the UK rappers who use the 'N-word' so freely arrested by the met police, I'm guessing that will be case right? As they're doing it to our fans.

Oh no wait, of course not...

To be fair I don't have an issue with the kick it out campaign or Ledley, I am sure he can understand why in the eay days if was used by our own fans but it's amazing how much you can hear on the pitch, maybe he thinks it would be better if it were gone altogether.

It's a shame that part of the history of our club comes from such a nasty period of time by football fans in Britain.

This being said I have always sung it and believe it went a long way to stopping these mindless idiots from there viril chanting, but as it now looks as though it has been accepted that it won't be tolerated maybe it is time? Probably be shot down by a few for this but I am starting to think this way a little, to be honest I think Baddiel is a twat but that's not the issue.

Fuck that, don't let them win.

Words develop new meanings and change over time.

We've taken the word and made it synonymous with our identity as a football club.

I doubt any of us chant yid and consciously are thinking at the same time 'oh this is a word that was once used as a derogatory term for Jewish people'.

A yid in my definition is someone associated with Tottenham Football Club.

There's no smear campaign to be had, all that needs to happen is the media stop taking any notice of Baddiel and this bizarre, misguided crusade he's set himself on. It's because he keeps getting invited to do interviews and appear on tv and radio, without any opposing voice or serious debate that it's ballooned to this stage. Frankly, i'm appalled that he's allowed to continually accuse us of racism when many official parties have declared that we are not, including the Met (and they still are, it's only if you are committing an offence that you will risk arrest, and we aren't) and not once has he been taken to task in any of these media arenas because not one booker has thought it prudent to perhaps consider the other side of the coin and invite someone who disagrees.

I suppose it'd be a bit of a waste of time anyway - he posts his piece in the Guardian, thousands of well thought out, sensible and relevant replies and opinions - does he come back and defend any of it? No, he's said his piece, he moves on.

People need to IGNORE him, he's no better than the man wearing the sandwich board in the street predicting doom, other than he has been a sycophantic shit-stirrer to national press and managed to convince them he deserves exclusive airtime to bleat on.

Put him in a studio, sure, but only if it's to debate the subject with those on the opposite side of his views, not have him say his piece then sit back with his smug grin, ignoring facts and everyone elses opinion.

Ok, but to me 'smear' campaign has ugly connotations of untruths and hidden agendas.
You don't think that the campaign has that, look at the timing of the original announcement, the FA were hoping to sting Spurs on a weekend when most Jewish Spurs fans wouldn't be at the game because of Yom Kippur

Yeah, 2011. I surprised Ledley has an issue with it knowing how its used at THFC.
Its not how its used that is the key issue in my opinion - its the actual word itself and I will admit I don't personally have enough knowledge about the history of the word

But as is suggested the Y word was used in the same way as the N word to dehumanise whole ethnic groups of people and justify horrific acts against them -I really don't think its an acceptable argument to say we're using it in support to show solidarity for the Jewish community in and around our area at the time.

I have no doubt that had history been different and at the time the Tottenham area been largely black and rival fans been abusive of the black community with our fans showing support and solidarity by calling themselves the N word and shouting N word army in support there's not a single person who would even try to argue that it is acceptable because of the way we're using it (yes even if we were putting an A on the end of it)

So to me if as is being claimed the Y word was a term used to dehumanise and justify mass murder of the jewish people than I agree its not acceptable

If however (as I suspect) the word Yid is indeed NOT the same as the N word or the P word and instead its a less than offensive term that is blown out of proportion by political correctness then they and the socitey of black lawyers can fuck right off
