I think what's annoying is that people seem to be assuming that we're sitting on our arse doing nothing, not even trying to sign a striker. It's clear that's not the case and to level that accusation at either Levy or Redknapp is just ridiculous.

I agree with you about thinking outside the box. I'd like us to find someone like United's Hernandez or Adebayor when Arsenal brought him in. Something that suggests our scouting network isn't just limited to 'established players'.

However I can guarantee that if we signed someone like that, 99% of the whingers on here would still be whinging about us not signing 'an established player'.

I agree that Levy and Redknapp need to be accountable for their mistakes, but the quickness with which some (most) fans seem to forget what they've done for us is both amazing and deeply frustrating. It's the sort of divine right that Chelsea and Man City fans now think they have to be successful and I hate to see it creeping into Spurs.

I don't disagree with any of that. My personal feeling is that it's not so much our scouting network as Redknapp. I can't shake the feeling that he is out of his comfort zone when it comes to transfer targets, so falls back on players he knows or players everyone agrees are great. I remember that statement when he 'jokingly' said Ian Broomfield would be in trouble if Sandro turned out to be rubbish - he just wasn't prepared to put his neck on the line at all, which I personally feel is his biggest weakness.

Absolutely right. If they were serious bids, why would we put them in at such a late stage that there was not physically time to complete them. Again, if they were serious bids, how come we didn't go straight back at the end of the window and put in the same or similar bids? Or some sort of bid at least? Can anyone answer that?

I would suggest that putting in a high, late bid gives you a better chance of getting Stoof's V Steps to Transfer completed quickly with less chance of hiccups over negotiation. A late bid like the one for Rossi means the club and the player have to decide quickly, yes or no, whether they want to move with no room for (agent) shenanigans. It's a very risky strategy, but audere est facere and all that.

Its increasingly difficult to trade in the current transfer market due to financial constraints and players wage demands, HOWEVER confident we have 2-3 players lined up and ready to sign, but the fundamental problems remain..

1. too many players on the books, we need to offload 5-6 to bring in 3
2. the said players have lost ambition and motivation to move, to re-ignite their careers.. cases in point - Jenas, Keane, Hutton

3. the club are probably asking for too much for these players, money in the Prem outside the top 6 is scarce and will be spent very carefully.

This was the situation in January and remains today. Some of these players will start to wind down contracts and look for a Bosman and sit things out for 1-2 years.

Its as simple as that. Theres no point getting excited about ITK / potential incomings we should get really excited about confirmation of player sales

We improve a little bit more, which happened each time both of those left?

I don't remember any Champions League football with either Carrick or Berbatov?

We get on with it, we prevail.

Stop being so bloody negative. We're still in single digits August. Ideal world: we signed 3 new strikers and cleared our supposed ""deadwood"" (eugh, what a phrase) by 30 June and they had a full pre-season with us. It didn't happen. Get over it. Moaning about it not happening doesn't change anything.

I'm sorry this is coming out against you, Paolo10, you're by no means the worst. But I've had it up to here (*points over head*) with the ridiculous, unfounded negativity - and it's just come out in a nasty, unexpected explosion, as it has a happenstance of happening.

Fair enough, judge them by their deeds as after the final whistle has been blown. But to ignore the period when most clubs do their business (i.e. the last fortnight in August) is like saying that if we're 1-0 down after 20 minutes there's no way we can win the game.

Patience. Please!!

THIS!!! Thought i was the only one!!

Exactly. Put in a 35m bid on deadline day and that's take it or leave it.

Put in a 35m bid in the first week of the window and the other team will barter upwards from there.

that's a fair point but there is late and then there is late.

1 question, say we don't sign a striker this window and keep the 4/5 we have and fall short again by coming 5th or 6th missing out on top 4 by say the same 6/7 points that a better striker could have bought us. How would you feel then when Bale, VDV, Sandro and Modric all had in transfer request next Summer due to lack of CL football?

Say our strikers actually play to their potential and form at the same time. The same strikers that got us 4th place in the first place. I'm not sure the website would be able to cope for the amount of humble pie threads that would need to be created. Now I'm not a believer in that, I think we need to freshen up the strike-force, but it's a waste of time to pre-suppose things like that. I'm not sure how I'd feel. I tend to respond to things after their time to be judged. I don't make half-time calls; I'll wait to 1st September before I make an assessment of the window.

I know how poor we were in the 90's, christ I've been going since the late 60's but this is our best chance since the PL started to actually making a claim to be a regular in the Top 4 and we are not making the kind of signings we need to be there. This is the 3rd window we have had chances to improve our strikers or over 12 months, what do our scouting/management do during this time. Deals should be sorted long before the window opens and just rubber stamping should be all we need do.

Should they? Do they? What sort of signings should we be making? What divine right to a section of players do we have?

But our Club has failed to do this (so far), so surely you can understand the frustration some have and the bottom line is the buck has to stop at either Levy or Arry for failing to do this. Be it wages or transfer fees, it is time to gamble as the loss of CL revenue (£40m) has cost us more and if a fee of £30m was needed last Summer and £100k a week then it would have been self financing to get back into CL football. But the lose of points against the likes of Wigan/West Ham/Bolton/Blackpool where a better striker should have seen us pick up the additional 7 points needed last season to get CL football again.

I expect Arsenal will be saying the same. A few costly draws, unexpected losses has meant that from title challenging they now have to qualify for the CL. There's no point in iffing and maybeing on stuff like that in my opinion. Yes, we should have wrapped up those games. But some would counter we obtained some good unexpected results elsewhere - victory at the Emirates after an awful first half, last minute penalty save against Chelsea etc. etc. I think those things even themselves out and your league position is just that, reflective of how you did over 38 games. We were the 5th best club last year. We finished 5th.

Call it blame society or whatever but surely you can see how frustrating it is.

Frustration depends on your expectations, for me. Yes, it's an annoyance - and maybe I'm just too grateful for having been to Milan twice last year to see us play magnificently, considering that 4-1 reverse against Newcastle at home under Ramos. Bigger picture-itis? The downside I suppose.

Get the theory but we did't get the player did we.

No and as Jimbo said it's risky.

But this is more in answer to those saying 'well why didn't we just bid 35m in June'. Because that would have been daft...that's why.

Its not at simple as that...particularly when you consider replacements for the selling Club and the implications for not allowing enought time to get a replacement....ie the possibility of missing out in Champions League football in Villarreal's case.

Talking non ITK crap or using certain swear words is repremanded but this disgusting, graphic image is allowed?

Haha I'm so happy my post is in here instead of just deleted.

For what it's worth, I don't particularly care who is to blame for what and why. I just care about the fact that in 10 days time I get to climb those WHL steps, take my seat just left of the players tunnel in row 18 and spend 90 minutes caring about one thing and one thing only....

How best to trip up the little shit in my row who always misses kick off and always leaves 5 minutes early.

Yes, for returning a rolleye smiley to rebrab.

Infact, it's kind of ironic that he rolled his eyes at me saying nothing was happening, a month later and what has actually happened in the world of Tottenham?
