Alot of people say that he hasn't kicked on or that he is unambitious but I disagree.
For me it comes down to one thing, his hamstring. He did his hamstring and rushed himself back for the world cup but since then he hasn't looked the same.
He hasn't got that raw pace he once had and has been reluctant every since to take on the fullback, he imo adapted his game so that he doesnt have to run at full pelt as much as before(or accelerate at full pelt). He also now though does track back more and keeper a deeper position.
Arsene Wenger made a very good point a couple of years back, saying that a hamstring injury is the hardest injury to recover from, not because it will take a long time for it to physically heal(which it wont). But because the injury destroys the players mentality, it adds a seed of doubt to the player making them afraid of doing it again, he mentioned that it is something that alot of players don't come back from.
That they are afraid of doing it again that they don't look like the player they once were and that them changing their game, results in the other aspects of their game suffer, as the way they played before(the way they shot, crossed and etc.) is no longer applicable since that they don't play at speed or style anymore. Essentially they have to learn how to play football again.
I think we could say that he was talking about Torres(wenger did say it before torres did his hamstring)
