Not sure why a player would go from Dortmund to us anyway.

Depends on the player and circumstances. I wasn't aware City/Pep were sniffing round him. We could possibly match/improve his wages (I have no idea what they are having said that) and offer CL football in a top league under a progressive and highly regarded manager.

I think the solution is to find a DM who's defensive-minded enough to be capable of playing at CB, or has played there before.

Someone like Dendoncker, for example. Kills 2 birds with one stone, without hurting CCV's long-term development.

We've already got one those, Dier.

extracted from whoscored
with his strengths it seems possible that he can be converted into a dier-like dm

But Dier needs a back-up, so we might as well fill it with someone who can play the same role in both DM and CB. Then, we've got 4 CB's and 2 CDM's, and we're sorted.

I don't think we need two Dier's. We have 3 RCB's and 2 LCB's. We don't need any more CB cover.

Potential targets in PL:
Oscar: young, can press, got an engine, terrible last season (cut price deal available?), PL/CL exp, can do most things, will likely fit into this squad.
Costa: Proven PL/CL goal scoring record, terrible last (cut price deal available?), potential time bomb.
Carrick: Porven PL/CL exp, can come on a free?, great positional sense can probably teach Dier a thing or 2, WHL familiarity
Tadic: Clever playmaker although unsure about work rate, may settle for squad role
Cabaye: Same as above and solves our CM 'problem
Wijnaldum: 11 goals from midfield enough said.
Arnautovic: Strong ax an ox and gets you goals although unsure about work rate.
Pelle: seems to have fallen out of favor (cut price deal available?) proven PL goal scoring record; holds up and can see a pass.

It seems everyone is mentioning this lad on here. I've never even heard of him, so would you be able to enlighten me a little as to what he's like, how he plays, if he fits Poch's ethos etc, please?

I've only seen him play a full game three times, so probably not the best person to answer that tbh.

However, from what I've seen, he's essentially a slightly more technical, slightly less physical Dier-clone.
Played CB at youth level, but he's only 5'10 and a bit, so I think they moved him to CDM.
Strong on the ball, keeps it simple, but very disciplined.
Still only 21.
Belgian, which can only help given our contingent.

The sort of midfielder who goes under the radar a bit (ala Dier), but what impressed me most when I watched him was his maturity. Decision-making seemed excellent at such a young age, and I think he'd probably be happy with being a back-up and developing at Spurs considering I don't think anyone else has actually been properly linked with him yet (inc. us!)

That's all I know really, not gonna confess to knowing him inside out, but he's being used as the example on here as he's young, and can play both CB and CDM.

From what I can see Dendoncker is 6'2" (not this again lol).

1. Won't happen (Chelsea). Already have Eriksen.
2. As above. Would only go to a club to be guaranteed 1st choice.
3. Way too old.
4. Don't need a player like him imo
5. Too old.
6. Incredibly overrated. Newcastle fans don't like him and has actually only scored in 7/38 games.
7. Very questionable attitude and work-rate.
8. Still played quite a lot for Southampton and too old.

Ahaha ffs - not sure tbh. Definitely a physically imposing player though so shouldn't make much difference.

Could mean that Anderlecht moved him to CDM due to superior technical ability rather than height, which can never be a bad thing anyway.

I think if we are to buy another CM we need him to be more than just a one dimensional DM.
Agreed, we need someone who could play with either of Dier or Dembele and genuinely challenge both for their positions. Not very imaginative I know but the only names that comes to mind are Carvalho at Sporting Lisbon and Gonalons at Lyon.

Schneiderlin? We all know Mourinho won't be able to resist spending £600gazillion on some shiny new toys, so maybe Schneiderlin could be available?

Carvhalo will have bigger suitors than us I fear and would cost big bucks.

Gonalons would actually be a case of "too much like replicating Dier's skill set" for me. He's a very decent DM who also plays CB quite a lot these days as Lyon actually do what I'm advocating we do some games and play a more progressive, footballing type who is also tenacious and does defensive stuff well in Tolisso - he would be a better option to play next to Dembele or Bentaleb (as lefties) IMO than Gonalons who, like Dier, is more one dimensional.

Seems like Manure are after Carvalho which could mean Schneiderlin is available, although quite frankly we should now be looking to compete with Manure.
