Mason seems to have played that deeper role a couple of times in pre-season too.

Do we suspect our coaches are converting him from a second striker/Number 10 to a deep lying playmaker?

Perhaps he's also learned a lot from watching and working with Modric in training.
Im not too sure he has been our best youth prospect for ages but I fear injuries may mean he will end up leaving, but I do think he has been dropped deep to improve his all round game and to get involved in the physical side
Think we could do with someone like Luongo in the middle, myself.
Well I think the future looks good but Sherwood has a tough job to integrate these players from youth to first team but thats his job but he has so far been using the loan system to build these players for first team however for players like Mason and Carroll the loan system is not idle as he needs at least a premier league club that plays the right way and no one will take a unproven player without national hype

Townsend is playing some great crosses in, no one to header them mind you, he definitely is good as cover for us atm

They are already talking about Harry Kane and how they should be looking at him! I guess no one told them that he is a league 1 player at best LOL. Sir Alex is there watching the game live:mad:
I dont understand the disagree I got for this comment, clearly I am taking the piss out of the Kane haters

Thats interesting regarding the book mentioning our youth set up?

Could you explain a little more about what it says about us? or is that it?

Cheers

I'm just going to type it out pretty much word for word, because I'm nice like that... in the chapter about La Masia, Barca's famed academy...

'I learned during the writing of this book that the NextGen series has uncovered similar concepts at Tottenham Hotspur. When I talked to Tim Sherwood Spurs' technical coordinator, his take on winning versus earning was a familiar one. 'In development, it's about producing players, not winning games', he said.

'There is still a lot of old school mentality around. Some still have the perception it's all about results at youth level, but it's not about that. The basic footballing philosophy about what to do with the ball must stay. If a wee guy gets robbed by some huge guy of the same age, then we want him to keep doing the right things, not change because he's temporarily at a physical advantage'.

It's good to read, particularly in a book about the great Barca. We are in good hands, and now we have a coach who will buy into this club ethos, and if he doesn't work out then the ethos must stay even if the personnel change, that to me is very important.

I appreciate that. The signs are good. Our new training ground combined with new manager should see us look to our academy more, which is an extremely exciting prospect.
If only the club would realise that fans are interested by this and start airing the NextGen & U21, U18 games. It means i can only really understand who our youth players are when they finally breach the first team, or go out on loan.

Thanks again SS.

If only more of our fans were more aware of this side of things. The number of times I've tried to explain about the long term vision, only to have the come back, "What long term vision?" (italicised for emphasis).

Alex Pritchard put us 1-0 up (39mins), Sunderland levelled (45), Yago Falque made it 2-1 (58), Sund levelled again from penalty spot (80).

Our Under-21s drew 2-2 against Sunderland in the Barclays U21 Premier League, game has just finished at Spurs Lodge.

Ray Lo at game so expect a full match report - probably Sunday if he is going to Spurs Norwich later.

and btw, Connor Ogilvie (CB - looked very good in Milk Cup) scored for E u 17's last night

I had assumed that part of the intention of the replacing the old reserve league with the U21 league was to raise the profile and make it more like real competitive football. Doesn't seem to be shaping up that way.

I agree, disappointing that OS did not aty least provide twitter coverage.

Constrast with ManU v Spurs at Altringham in mid week with live ManU TV. Spurs still seem to be struggling to keep up with modern technology.

I wonder if Ceballos played?

There was that bizarre ITK, from Roger Morgan I believe, that Real Madrid wanted Ceballos, which was strange because: i) he's a Barca graduate; and ii) he often only made the bench for our Next Gen team last year.

Then there was another rumour that Ceballas was highly rated at the club and we didn't want to let him go to RM. AFAIK he stayed and is still a Spurs player.
