God, if there is one, help this young man back on to the road to recovery but I will refuse to forget the 6 young men who got blown to smithereens last week in an explosion while they were fighting Blair's war. They were posted as missing because they were blasted to fuck for a lot less than a Prem footballers gets.

Neg rep me - I don't care.

Was just about to post on this. He appears to think that the outpouring of concern for Muamba highlights the lack of concern/grief for those soldiers that died recently. Not really sure what the money issue has to do with anything.

Just a misplaced comment more than anything else. Of course people feel for the victims and families he's referring to, however people being killed in a violent and risky job they chose to take part in - whilst still incredibly sad and tragic - is very different to seeing someone on the brink of death right in front of you...via a screen as it was for me and many others, or there at White Hart Lane.

I think maybe he was trying to highlight the difference in media and public attention. But you are right, when an event is closer to people it will affect them more deeply. As someone who has done CPR on a dying man, I can sympathise with that.

Stuff that happens thousands of miles away and outside the scope of our attention can seem less important. Which is why one might make a flippant comment about a modern day holocaust if it is happening in Asia, but be half destroyed if one tenth of one tenth of that horror is inflicted upon a loved one.

There's nothing wrong with focusing the attention on Muamba, and we all pray he will recover, but TCOs frustration at that focus is understandable if misguided.

Missed the game luckily but saw the scenes on the news and felt sick. Does anyone have a link to the goals that was scored last night without the scenes afterwards? Let's hope for some good news today.

Any death of a young person is tragic. I can't make distinctions as to whether they are soldiers or footballers...

No link that i can find, but theirs was from a corner, nodded on by one of theirs and deflected off Bale's shoulder. He couldn't do a thing about it. Ours was a good passing effort down the left, Bale broke for the touchline, dummied a cross and bought himself a yard, floated a gem to the back post where Walker was charging in to outjump the defence.

Was quite impressed with out goal as it happens, was the sort of goal i was getting used to seeing us scoring, and the first cross i think i've seen Bale deliver so well for some time.

It was a fantastic header from Walker, really got up very well.

Is Muamba still critical? Poor lad, hope he makes a full recovery.

Joint statement by the hospital and Bolton, made today:

"Fabrice Muamba
spacer.gif
remains in a critical condition in intensive care in the Heart Attack Centre at The London Chest Hospital.
"He was admitted to the hospital yesterday evening after collapsing at White Hart Lane, where he sustained a cardiac arrest during the FA Cup Quarter Final against Tottenham Hotspur.
"Fabrice received prolonged resuscitation at the ground and on route to The London Chest Hospital, where his heart eventually started working. As is normal medical practice, Fabrice remains anaesthetised in intensive care and will be for at least 24 hours.
"His condition continues to be closely monitored by the cardiac specialists at the hospital."

Cheers mate nice to hear that Bale was whipping in a cross from the left again. Nice to hear our right back was in the area to nod it in as well.

It was good to see Bale go back to what he's so good at and driving at the right back. I like seeing him try to develop his game and pick up positions inside or even out on the right. But I think he was getting away from the basic a bit too much.

Hopefully we see him occupy the left wing a bit more in the run in. It's all about getting that balance right between roaming and sticking to the touchline. He combined the 2 well for an almost glorious goal as well, but it came off his shoulder rather than his head.

hate to ask any idea when this game will be rescheduled. and does it start 0-0?

Not sure when it will be played but pretty sure it the game will just be replayed starting from the beginning as the abandonment was not the fault of either club.

The point I am trying to get across is that I do not want FM to die, nor any other human except by natural causes.

I stated earlier in this thread that I was slagging off FM elsewhere because of a dirty foul he committed against Bale in Dec 2007 that put Bale out for the rest of the 2007/8 season.

I just think that there are a lot of people in this country who go into a collective hand wringing and sobbing group when a celeb, rock star, or someone known to the public dies. I dunno if if started with Princess Di - the Peoples Princess but since then there have been many who go into what I would call false mourning - Not quite as bad as the mourners for the N.Korean guy but more recent deaths like Jade Goody, Amy Whitehouse, Jacko and far too many more to mention but I hope you get my gist. Someone like the copper who was blinded by that slag Moat and committed suicide made hardly a mention. After a few weeks the public then move back into their own world where real lives and deaths should and do mean more.

Sometimes shit happens, I sincerely hope Muamba recovers fully - Because he is a human being like all of us - Not because we know him as a football player.

I apologise if I offended members on here - my opinion might sound cynical, it wasn't meant to. This electronic world which is overtaking my sensibilities seems to make people react differently with their grief for people they don't know. Six hundred people can die in an earthquake in China or Turkey - do we care. Why not ?

neg rep me if you like but soldiers choose to go to war and put their life on the line so its all in the line of duty and not uexpected, footballers dont and so it is much more succinct, no comparison really
did anyone notice that some tome before the game stopped the crosses from bale had somewhat dried up?
For the record TCO i disliked muamba for exactly the same reason itwas nasty and in my opinion deliberate so i know where you were coming from.

still sad aboit this though.

Thoughts are with the kid, hope he pulls through and at the very least gets a quality of life back.

I must say I completely agree with some of the posters above about the complete hysteria that the world goes into when a celebrity dies/gets badly injured etc.

I had a friend who was killed when serving for the army, he got no special mention or millions of people wishing and praying for him.

I have another who is currently in a hospital in Birmingham having stepped on a mine in afghanistan and has lost both legs as well as being in a coma for the last month. Is there a twitter campaign? All death is tragic but the hysteria surrounding celebrities trivialises that of true heroes.

Just out of curiosity, Henry winter yesterday came out with one of the most common clichés used when this situation occurs when he stated muamba was "one of the nicest guys in football". Whilst not disputing this as I have no reference point, do you believe similar plaudits would be bestowed on scum like lee cattermole?

Bolton ITK is saying that the players understandably don't want to go back to WHL. So maybe it'll be a neutral ground, or maybe we'll get a bye. I hope we don't, would feel sick to the stomach if we got through because of this.

the whole famous people/soldiers thing i just find so annoying. is it a surprise that someone in the public eye receives more attention than john the soldier? i bet the same people that make this ridiculous comparison don't raise attention to and mourn every soldier's death yet here they are popping up with this lame point. and as already pointed out, soldiers know what they're signing up to, it's still sad nonetheless but a footballer collapsing mid game is a little bit more unexpected.
