why don't you people say Jamie Redknapp is invited on because of his good looks even though he chats absolute drivel pretty much 150% of the time?

why do people still choose this hill to die on?

The difference is if he wasn't good looking he'd still be there. She wouldn't be.

Nonsense. Not only is she trained in tv presenting and commentating, she also has a degree in Journalism and Broadcasting, has a few years experience working in tv, her playing CV speaks for itself. Alex Scott is one of the best pundits out there currently.

I know the idea of women being involved in football might seem scary and new, but apparently they do make up 50% of the population and I've even heard that some like football and are quite knowledgeable about the subject.

It's not scary, but why are we afraid to admit women in TV presentation jobs (not just football) are usually atttractive. Their looks definitely help them get the job.

Nothing wrong with that either. I don't want to see some fat minger on my telly talking crap about football. At least this bint looks good even if she does spout banal rubbish.

Just remember Arteta played mind games this week saying that Partey wouldn’t be fit for 6 weeks. He played today and was fucked on the second goal to the point where Arteta tried to push him back on the pitch as we were about to score our second goal. He’s out now. Arsenal never had any chances like the two goals we scored, it was awesome counter attack football. We finished them and they clowned around trying to unlock us which they never even came close too let alone score goals like we did with such breathtaking arrogance. We actually preserved a lot of energy for upcoming games with that second half. Why is that? Because we won it in the first. An inexperienced manager throws a player in and then proceeds to throw everything at the game and loses the match and a player. The experienced manager wins it in the first half, conserves energy the second because he realises there are more championship winning games coming. This counter attacking football is as good as I’ve seen from a Spurs team. This defensive football is the BEST I’ve ever seen from a Spurs team. It’s not for everyone and that’s ok, possession football was not for everyone either, but what it is is winning and that should be for everyone and it certainly is for me. I’ve never seen a north London derby where my heart rate was lower than 50bpm. Today was that day and long may it continue. We should absolutely have our opinions and be able to express them but let’s remember that the eleven players and the squad too are working harder than ever to get what we all want. Success. It’s coming. Enjoy it.
Actually I disagree on something here. They didnt even actually try to unlock us. Whether its because they dont have a single creative player, i dont know. But they fell right into the trap Jose set wanting to force them wide. They played 40+ crosses. More than 40!!!!!!!!! And never came remotely close to a chance from one.

Same here. Never experienced a more stress-free NLD in my life. And across games against City, Chelsea and Arsenal we've conceded, according to the stats, 8 shots on target, no goals and Hugo's had to make two or three decent saves at most. Makes it a fuck of a lot easier to win matches when you don't let any goals in.

I'm not sure how a full stadium would react to the way we played against City and today. Whether the lack of possession would get to the crowd and then get communicated to the players. It almost feels like Jose's taking advantage of lockdown to teach us some fundamentals about the game that aren't really in our DNA as a club.

End of the day,2nd half was just a training exercise in defending!! Nuff said easy peasy ahahahha.. we didn't need to even go to 2nd gear. Sure we could have gone full pelt and smashed them by even more. However, with the Xmas fixtures coming thick and fast and that idiot xhaka there there's a huge chance someone may have gotten an injury

Well sure, that's your opinion (insert Jeff Bridges meme here). What type of value are you looking for? Neville and Carragher style video breakdown? Keane indignation and grumpiness? Jenas personable and well-spoken?

Then again, if all pundits were offering amazing value, they would, by definition be...wait for it....average.

She's hot, she's not totally biased nor a blathering idiot. I don't see the harm.

From an ex-pro pundit what I think they should bring to the table to add value is pretty simple - insight which isn't incredibly obvious.

Now and again that isn't possible, because of the nature of the game, but in most cases pundits (and Neville is probably the best at this, though Shearer has his moments as does Murphy to a lesser extent) should be informing the viewer of important factors they may have missed, not understood or need further explanation of while watching the game. Tim Cahill is another very good pundit IMO.

As I say Neville is the current best at this - and not just on MNF with his really in-depth stuff. He'll offer it during commentary, at half time and after games. He'll point out tactical elements that most fans would miss, or not understand the impact of. He'll offer solutions, detail decisions made by managers and often focus on more than just movement and positioning. He'll go into enough detail for fans to get a new insight without spending hours repeating himself. He's at his best during commentary with this I think.

Most other pundits don't do anything like this. They'll say one team was great and one was bad, tell us Player A had a great game and Player B had a stinker, and at most offer some replays of things we've already seen and obviously noticed ourselves. Loads of them (and Scott does this a lot) fall back on the old "If I criticise a player it will look like I know what I'm talking about" strategy and offer up repeated statements of "He's got to do better here" etc. We know all that, we watched the game. They're not offering anything more than if you put the average fan in the chair. Lawro has been getting away with this for decades, but interestingly no-one seems to complain when he's getting absolute dogs abuse on here.

Alex Scott is one of these latter bang average pundits. She offers obvious commentary (state the thing that happened), sub-standard English skills, and generally pleasant banter. Just like most pundits. She's less insightful and less articulate than Jenas, to use one of your examples. There's nothing wrong with pointing that out when some people start blathering on about how amazing she is - she isn't. She's just another pundit in a long list of them. I have nothing against her personally - I don't think any of those average pundits should be commenting on the game because they're getting paid a fortune to not offer us anything. There's no difference between Scott and a hundred other ex-pro's though for some reason she seems to be held up as being far better than she actually is (maybe it's because as several people have said, she's quite fit). The difference is only that Scott gets talked up like she's the new Cruyff and all the others either get ignored or abused.

Of course any suggestion of this gets jumped on by Woko Haram as evidenced by the reactions in this thread.

Its just a generational thing. Basically political correctness is a modern occurrence that took anyone born before 1980 by complete surprise. And it continues to annoy and perplex them to this very day. I’m one such bloke and so sympathise with his views in principle. I just wouldn’t say it, as I’ve got more class ?

We just won the NLD. 4 consecutive clean sheets against sides including Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal. Top of the league with the best defence and joint best goal difference.

And you guys moaning about Sky Pundits? Bit of perspective needed guys.

Liverpool in two weeks, that's the real test.

If we sit back and let them dominate play the same way we let Arsenal, they will score.
Let's not kid ourselves here, Arsenal are total rubbish, and not serious competition.

The real test is the next match. In the history of THFC a stunning victory is generally followed by a equally stunning defeat.

We followed the 6-1 destruction of Man Utd with the 3-3 debacle against West Ham. We need to focus on Crystal Palace.

Don't underestimate the momentum we're building from these results. The players will fully believe that they're capable of achieving anything this season
This!! All those pundits questioning if the players like playing like this. You only have to watch Sonny, Kane interviews after the match to see they are buzzing. They are absolutely on board with this style - esp against the big teams.

I don’t think it will last. We will play against very similar negative teams soon and we will struggle playing the same way as them. We have been very fortunate with the games we won. An injury to Kane or Son and we have nothing it seems. Our whole attacking game plan is relying on 2 players to be exceptional to win games. They have so far.

We've played more negative teams recently - Burnley, Brighton & WBA - and we got 9 points. No doubt you think that was luck too?

Are you actually saying we've been fortunate against City & Arsenal?! That is nonsense I'm afraid, total nonsense.

But Kane & Son aren't injured so why not play to their strengths? And if one of them does get injured, why not see if we have a reasonable alternative before assuming?

A very blinkered view; you're not alone, Jamie Redknapp said the same thing and he's meant to be some kind of expert. No doubt you also think we were amazing under Poch but that's not enough because we didn't win anything?

We are an unbelievably strong team at the moment. And we tick a number of boxes of a successful team.

I'd say the focus on these massive games, is about not losing them, and playing smart. Against bottom half teams I expect Jose will know to let the reins off and be more attacking.

Hate Alex Scott because she is a gooner and be honest about it. She’s not a brilliant pundit but as good as most of them if being truthful. Even the most articulate ex player sounds uneducated and awkward. She’s a half decent tv presenter learning the craft. Remember it took Lineker twenty years to become the best pundit then presenter out there.

Yes, if she was a bird in a night club during my prime I would have broke my neck trying to get a shot at smashing her back doors in. Then again I was an animal back then that would make Sid the Sexist look like Nigel Havers.

What I find amusing is the idea that the way we're playing, somehow is easy and that any team could if they wanted to.

It's why you see comments like "They only sit back and then pass it to Kane and Son".

It's like it's beyond the realms of imagination that a solid defence takes time, effort and determination to achieve.

Bang on.
Redknapp gave his usual insightful soundbite "The difference is Kane & Son. If Arsenal had them they win the game"
Utter, utter bollocks. If he seriously believes their midfield & defence were as strong as ours then he needs to watch the game over and over again.
We weren't stupid enough to bomb forward (including both full-backs simultaneously) leaving 2 centre halves exposed (and don't tell me it was Partey's fault, they were still outnumbered).

We are so organised and hard-working at the moment it is almost unbelievable. And with the pace, vision and talent that our attackers provide, that is some combination.

Football is all about results.

We are learning with every game, we are not the finish article. Playing he way we are, we will soon be doing it in style.
