I think we did deserve the win. We were all over them until we got the first. Then as soon as they equalised we were all over them until we got the 2nd. It was the sitting back in between that bothered me. We played like we were afraid of conceding when we were 1 up. No freedom. No determination to increase the lead. Its a mental issue. I'm sure Jose's totally aware of it. Time. Until then, we're still getting points. Typical Jose team to get points even when shit. That tells you that we have a real chance this year.

We probably were, the West Ham result looked like it really affected us

holy fuck how does that ref still have a job. He gets a chance to watch the challenge on Hojbjerg in slow motion and still thinks its not a foul. Thought the Harry Kane pen was the wrong call, too. The rules of football have been re-written in a language I dont understand.

Think we got away with that one.
Penalty given to us was foul by Kane rather than Lallana.
Thought Doherty penalty could/should have been given which would have led to his dismissal also.
In respect of their goal was surprised in 2 respects, 1. They even looked at the foul, as happened in different phase of play, but secondly having seen it, it wasn’t overturned.
Kane’s swan dive to try and gain a penalty was an embarrassment also.
didnt think either Lalana or Doherty plays were fouls. Didnt think Kane'Lallana were in the box either.

Can refs be 'demoted' for bad officiating or shit decisions? Or are they basically untouchable regardless of how badly they fuck up?

Graham Scott should count himself lucky that we got the win as most football fans will forget about this one relatively quickly now.

Just googled the ref to see what's being said and this was the first thing that came up

I don’t know why this made laugh to another level, I think it’s because of how subtle it is as if the guy who made the edit thought he could sneak that in without anyone noticing.

I think Brighton fans will be fuming.

Tbf I think every decision he took could be justified. But now VAR means there is more pressure on every decision being perfect, despite no such thing existing a lot of the time, and that people are ultra partisan and all that. I suspect a lot of tottenham and brighton fans will be sharing similar feelings.

On another day we don't get the penalty, brighton do get a penalty and the goal is disallowed. But on another day all three of those decisions could have gone in any way, and every single permutation would be defensible. It's really impossible situation, and because VAR is god it just puts more and more pressure.

Thought the tackle on Hojbjerg was a bookable offence, and Kane’s penalty was outside the box, and Doherty’s ‘tackle’ was a penalty. I am rapidly falling out of love with football with the game being managed by idiots both on and off the pitch.

Sorry but this is total nonsense. The Hojbjerg foul is completely black and white. Whether he touches the ball is irrelevant- his studs are over the top, his follow through is reckless and cleans Hojbjerg out, and anyway Hojbjerg is still in possession.

At the other end of the scale, it amazes me how people don’t know the laws (including Martin Keown on MOTD). Harry Kane is standing directly under where the ball is going to land - it would literally hit him on the head if Lallana doesn’t clatter him. He is completely entitled to be there, and Lallana flies into him. The fact that he wants to be fouled doesn’t mean it isn’t a foul. Doherty’s falls into the ‘seen them given’ category, but Brighton benefited from by far the most egregious error of the game and didn’t create another chance of note. They weren’t unlucky

Regardless of whether Brighton should have had a pen or not, that was very risky defending by Doherty.

Agree, Kane penalty correct, PEH a clear and obvious mistake by ref and Doherty seen them given and seen them not given. Brighton huffed and puffed but barely troubled Lloris.

Kane took advantage of Lallana. In the same way that players run into an outstretched leg to win a penalty.
He could see Lallana about to launch into a header and took the contact.
Lallana gave the ref a decision to make.

If Doherty’s had been against us, I’d have been disappointed not to get a pen.

The Hojbjerg incident was an utter joke. I’d go so far to say the worst decision of the entire Premier league season so far. If this clown can’t see it’s a foul in real time that’s worrying. But to review it numerous times on screen and still call fair challenge, then just wow.
The silly little shape he makes with his hand to demonstrate March got a tiny amount of the ball was ridiculous.
He should not be officiating top level football.

I'm normally one who would say this but I do think some just want to see us have a bit more control.

I'm not asking for total domination however I don't think we can allow teams to have so much play, especially around the penalty area. A better team would have done better with their opportunities today and players will get tired of sitting deep.

I think to see us as champions we need something more in midfield to allow us to get a grip on games when we are having issues on the counter. Brighton had us under a bit of pressure at times and we couldn't hold the ball, that's when you need a midfield to wrestle control back for a bit to ease the pressure.

I agree but for me its quite simple...Ndombele had an off day after playing so well previously.

He's absolutely key to allowing us to affect the game in the middle of the pitch.

Salah blags a penalty every other week and Liverpool go on to win things. I couldn't give a toss if Kane engineered a penalty, West Ham engineered a free kick that led to us dropping points...and don't even get me started on the Dier handball v Newcastle.

Whilst yesterday's shitshow officiating helped to secure the 3 points, my main concern was our lack of conviction again. That said, currently sitting 2nd in the league, if Kane has to take a tumble once in a while, fill yet boots lad, many a player has done as much in the past, some even called smart for doing so.

I actually laughed when Scott showed with his fingers that there was the least of a touch on the ball in the PEH foul. He simply doesn't understand what a foul is. In the same way that I was fully expecting the Doherty incident to be ruled a penalty.

In short, these VAR decisions seem to be completely random. And that makes the whole system a lottery.

The Kane penalty was clear. His feet were on the line, he planted himself there for exactly that reason. Well played Harry

Thought that was a deserved victory. That's not to say I think Tottenham played well, it's just Brighton played even worse and did for sure not deserve to win.
