The stand out performers were
BAE
King
Woodgate
Modric
and couldnt split motm between the Modric or Woodgate both were magnificent

Everybody worked hard and Gomes made at least one fantastic save

Palacios slightly off his game at present but brings such energy and desire to the middle of the park you can excuse him one or two dodgy passing performances.

Keane and Bent worked their nuts off and Lennon whilst reasonably quite was always a threat.

Jenas yet again did nothing with the ball, was caught in or gave away possesion on numerous occasions but did track back well...but remains the weak link in the side

all in all a throughly deserved result and excellent performance

I am on Cloud 9 - it seems impossible to believe that this is pretty much the same team that got 3 points out of the first 8 games (or was it 2 ?) - and that just shows the impact of Palacios and Keano - and Arry of course.

Gomes - 9 - safe hands all game and a world class save at the end
BAE - 8 - I am really warming to this guy - very impressive performance again - if he had a real left winger in front of him he'd be able to do better runs too
Woodgate - 8 - great positional sense and cut out most trouble
King - 8 - great defending and some good forward passes too. He looked slightly injured towards end - hope he's okay
Corluka - 8 - inspiring - and a great save towards the end too. Links so well with Aaron.
Palacios - 7.5 - What a difference he's made to the midfield and no coincidence that JJ's game has been transformed since his arrival
Jenas - 8 - great tackling and work rate including a top quality shot
Modric - 9 - Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful - and a goal too
Lennon - 9 - terrified the opposition and is getting better crosses in every game
Keano - 8.5 - amazing ball to Lennon at one point - cross field diagonal - defending, attacking - an inspiring captain's performance.
Bent - 8 - offers so much more now - never gave up, much better at holding up the ball - looks like he should be there (which I didn't always get from him before)

Crowd - 10 - awesome - and some new songs too

 Well done everyone

Jenas>Palacios today, Jenas was everywhere, passing was good and also got into the box on occasion for a shot, Palacios's distribution was very poor today, although they outplayed arguably the best central midfield in the premiership. Was great to watch us bossing most of the game, even when 1-0 up we were good in posesion and still a threat.
MOM - Even between Gomes and BAE, Both didn't put a foot wrong.

Still Jenas proves to be the biggest engima in a spurs shirt for the fans.

GOMES - 10 - Immense, absolutely brilliant. Def his best game for us and MOTM.

BAE - 8 - Another solid performance, still hoofs ball upfield a bit too much for my liking, but better safe than sorry I guess. Well played.
KING - 9 - Excellent game. Held Drogba really well and got forward at every opportunity for us too.
WOODY - 8 - Solid, can't really fault his performance other than the free just outside the area which he was possibly a little stiff to give away anyway.
CHARLIE - 9 - Another great show, works so well with Lennon, overlapping, backing up, and is just so cool on the ball and defensively.
LENNON - 8 - Another great show, excellent assist. Can still improve his final ball, but when he gets it right, it's magic. Well played against Cashly.
PALACIOS - 7.5 - Did the hard things really well and was intimidating to the Chavs. Loved his niggling little tackles and the fact it took about 10 before he was shown a card. Passing still needs improvement, but I'm happy to overlook this for the other stuff he's contibuting. Great signing!
JENAS - 6 - I'm not a Jenas basher, but he wasn't great. Sloppy passing and ball control. Laid some decent tackles, but his job is to create and drive from the centre, which he didn't do fantastically well today.
MODRIC - 9 - slowish start, but by goodness, he's a great player. Just took the piss out of the Chavs at times and what a finish. Possibly could have had a carbon copy 2nd, but very, very good game. Please, please, please lets keep him.
KEANO - 7.5 - Decent performance when he got on the ball. A little quite at times.
BENT - 8.5 - What's happened to 'Benty' in the last 3 weeks. He's holding the ball up, winning it in the air and getting into some fantastic positions. He works as hard as any man in the team and is finally justifying his price tag. Well done 'Benty'!

HARRY - 10 - Finally found the perfect starting line up. His Feb/March record is outstanding, and I'll be the first to say I was wrong in saying that 'Arry was the right man for the job in a relegation battle, but we could do better for 09/10. 'Arry's proving he's got what it takes to really do great things with our great club.

I fucking love Tottenham. Today was a beautiful day to be a Spurs fan. Can't wipe the smile off my face! WE LOVE YOU TOTTENHAM WE DO!!!!

I've just seen the game again on the ESPN rerun. We were really good and we didn't need Chelsea to do a Man U for us to win. (By the way, our league position would be better if United had beaten Fulham, but they were bad and Fulham were excellent from what I saw so credit to the Cottagers).

Palacios, JJ, Modric and Lennon look like a great midfield and today they outplayed Chelsea, which not many teams can do. Of course, sometimes they give the ball away or concede free kicks in dangerous areas, but they each bring something vital to the team and they complement each other so well. Palacios doesn't pass as well as Huddlestone, but he has presence and looks like a nightmare to play against. I cannot believe people overlook what he brings to the team when rating his overall contribution. Same with JJ. Amazing workrate and does the less than glamorous work allowing Modric and Lennon to be simply magic.

Bent and Keane had good games, and our defence was solid. A back 4 that must be the envy of pretty much every manager in the league.

Gomes was outstanding. Probably my man-of-the-match. Some great saves. The one from Terry's(?) headder in the 78th minute was absolutely world class.

Seems we're on the same wavelength on Palacios:

It's funny about our back 4 - 2 & 3 years back we slated them saying we need to stop shipping goals, now they're the envy of the league - love it!

What a great performance. We had a technical hitch and I missed Heurelho's save from Terry. Even so, it was good to see him play so well and, hopefully, impress some of his doubters. Modric was superb. His first touch is world class and for me he looked easily the best player on the pitch. He collects balls with people around him and isn't worried at all. Great player. The defence was as sound and as resolute as I've seen it. BAE improves every week and Corluka even managed to 'run' through four Chelsea players. I was disappointed with some of Palacios passing but he works incredibly hard. When Keano sidefooted his chance straight at Cech I was screaming for a Berba-like composure and clinical finish; and Luka provided it. Fabulous!
Gomes 8, BAE 8, Corluka 8, Woody 8, King 8, Jenas 7, Palacios 7, Lennon 7, Modric 9, Bent 7, Keane 7.

I agree with these ratings, the best of the 8's was modric, then lennon, overal the whole team played very well

No need for individual scores I think - just a massive & brilliant TEAM effort. Outstanding - better than the Villa game.
Players did us all proud. Well done lads, well done 'Arry.

been through the whole thread checking ratings and i cant believe some have given low ratings to bent and jenas, it seems that preconceptions are clouding vision of their performance today, especially bent who really suprised me toady. Im not his biggest fan, but he has worked so hard in the last few matches, and today he showed great touch and skill, something I didn't think he was capable of in a spurs shirt.

Jenas and palacios did give the ball away a bit cheaply at times but more than made up for it with their workrate and commitment. They allow moders and lennon to run riot in forward positions, and with keane dropping back this trio really look good together.

So you rate out of 9 then?

I think you misunderstood.

He is basically saying that a 10 would mean a perfect performance, absent of any mistakes and absolutely flawless. Can you think of a player who has turned in such a game, does perfect even exist?

Im with AngerManagement, a 9 is about the highest id give a player. It would take something really special to earn a 10.

Agreed. I'd say today was one of Bent's best performances in a Spurs shirt even though he didn't score.

I really hope we keep him this summer. No changes are necessary to our side now IMO. Perhaps coverage at LB and CB, but thats it.

I get that. He did say that he doesn't believe in giving 10s, which does kind of make the 10 in his scale rather redundant. If 9 is the best your going to give, why not just say it's out of 9?
Personally I don't take the rating thing too seriously and I was really just being annoying. If you do put thought into ratings then I guess you must have some kind of rubric for each player in each position (we expect different things from different players in different positions so they can't be judged against the same criteria). If the criteria are all met, that would merit a 10 from me. If I were to bother with that.
Anyway, whatever the rating criteria and scores, it was a bloody good performance (not 10/10 perfect, though) so have a nice day and enjoy basking in the post-victory smugness, especially when you encounter reds or blues this week.

Jenas seems to be one of those players who are damned if they do damned if they don't, Spurs fans it seems will never be happy we have him until he morphs into a Steven Gerrard/Frank Lampard hybrid.

Excellent post mate. So true. I think we all want a midfield dynamo type player, but Jenas always does a job and I think a lot of fans unfairly think he can be that type of player.... which he can't.

Though you'd never think it when they play for England, they're two of the best in the world.. it's kinda stupid, to think Jenas could even step up to their level!!!

Chelsea and Liverpool are very lucky to have them. Love them or hate them....no bullshit... If we had either Lampard or Gerrard in our midfield would we be right up there, where their respective teams are now??

Yeah, I think we would. In the Premiership........they're world class.
