Because it doesn't work like that, we still needed him on the pitch to relieve pressure.

What would you have said if they scored soon after and Kane was off the pitch?

That we’ve got another 90 minutes to finish off an inferior team.

It's a good result. Could have been great at the end, with a couple of good chances missed. But at this stage of the competition, home leg clean sheets are huge.
Now hope Kane's knee's fine, and get 3pts at the Goons........COYS

Don’t think I’ve ever been so annoyed watching us win a game. Not at our team, but at how awful the ref was. Let their players get away with absolute murder time and time again. Completely ignore the foul in the box, and generally was completely shit.

Solid professional performance, good use of the squad. I think we have quite obvious first choices for a number of positions (mainly Lloris, Reggie, Toby, Ndombele, PEH, Son, Bale and Kane) but we also have solid backups for these kind of games.

It’s not just the ref it’s the linesman too, the rugby tackle on bale was right in front of him but somehow he doesn’t think it’s a foul

They should be called Dinamo Stoke. Wouldn't be surprised to find out Tony Pulis is Director of Football.

Thing is it’s clear they can play when they want to. They just like kicking and elbowing people. Dirty bastards.

Sanchez was solid again. He strikes me as a confidence centre back who thrives on a run of games. Being rotated in and out constantly doesn’t suit him.

The second half wasn’t as convincing as the first, but we were always in control of that. Lloris was largely a spectator. We could have scored another goal or two, but it was more important that our defence blunted and undermined their attack. There were few alarming moments. We really ought to be able to score a goal next week and that would make life very difficult for Zagreb.

I hope GLC is available for the second leg. I wouldn’t want to see a midfield axis of Sissoko & Winks.

Don't want Kane starting next week. Bring him as sub in case it looks like it's going tits up but they're going to kick the shit out of us so best keep him wrapped up.

Lamela pushing hard to start the derby

My opinion on who starts out of Moura and Lamela changes by the minute. Very happy with both, especially give credit to Moura because I was losing all hope with him but his new role he's done well.

I am so worried about Kane's knee. He was really struggling on it after the clash - it's one of those where it could have just been impact, and if you've played the game you know those hurt for a while, but it could easily bruise up and swell badly.

Wish we'd pulled him straight after the second goal, especially the way those dirty bastards were tackling and our players were getting zero protection from the ref.

Agree. I think Jose will instruct the players to go for an early goal to deflate the opponents.

Thinking about DM for second leg. Obviously Sissoko is going to start there but without Hojbjerg on the bench we are a little light. Possibly if Sissoko needs replacing are we looking at Dier sitting in there? Or Tanganga?
