That will change with better players though, Dier, Davies, PEH, Skipp and Emerson at LB aren't the future, it's painful but it will only get better with players returning from injury and new ones coming in.

Not sure how Royal gets put in that group after today's performance?

Sure he's no Udogie but he was superb filling in. SHould have had an assist for the chance Brennan wasted - and repelled attack after attack on his side.

For all his ability on the ball Porro was dreadful defensively second half. He really struggles without Romero and Biss to cover.

Emerson was decent today. Did little wrong

Royal may lack subtlety or intricacy when on the ball, but he more often than not defends very well.

This was not his best game. Lots of loose passes today. Hardly the only one, but also has to shoulder his responsibilities.
