that was a painful watch from 30-35 mins onwards. Players tried their hardest but a number of them were off it today. Son was on a different wavelength - his passing was poor & he led to a lot of our possession breaking down. Skippy, shame - he's a trier and was better today but clearly not suited to the way we need to play. Johnson was wasteful also and seems reluctant to take on his man (maybe the injury still playing on his mind).

Thought ange needed to make changes sooner as it just allowed them more & more into the game. Everton deserved more from them game but we played much better and got nothing against Villa & w.Ham game. Will take these 3 points as we've needed it to stay in touch with leaders

Tough game. Credit to Everton, we didn't really deserve the win imo.

However, we didn't deserve to lose vs villa, so you don't always get the results you deserve.

Agree but at the moment it looks very much like kamikazi football

It does, but two more transfer windows of solid recruitment and it doesn't, frustrating, as I think this is "the dip" season from other teams and our squad is once again a bit of a mess outside of say 14 players, credit to Ange as his mentality to keep playing the same without the right tools and still have us sat high in the table is insane.

Honestly blows my mind how some love to really get negative about the team and not consider the situation we are in.

Not only is our backline makeshift and our CM pairing poor on quality, some of them are playing in positions or roles they are unable to.

Hojbjerg, Skipp, Dier and Davies is genuinely relegation standard middle four.

Then you have a RB playing LB.

And people get angry cause can't control a game??

Fucking hell

It’s games like this where not only the quality but also the game intelligence of our back up players comes to the fore and highlights the need for depth that aligns with Anges requirements.
I think that’s a bit harsh. Take Royal, for example: it’s very hard to play left-back when you’re right-footed because you naturally want to take the ball on the inside, and that’s much easier for the opposition to press; Royal almost has to play with the same awareness and control as a central midfielder, which obviously isn’t his forte. Udogie would find it hard playing right-back. I actually think it makes more sense to play Porro at LB when Udogie is unavailable as he’s very good on the ball, and play Royal at RB. Davies, meanwhile, is playing as LCB when he’s a LB. I think he’s doing very well considering.

it’s also harder for the squad players to play well when they’re playing with other squad players who are playing out of position and are low on confidence and match fitness.

Stating the obvious but our back-up players (Dier, PEH, Skipp) just aren’t good enough and are easy to put under pressure.
It’s not just a case of inferior players being put under pressure though is it. The basic problem is the lack of a defensive structure, especially when we are in possession.

But it didn't when we had all of VdV, Udogie, Bissouma and Maddison in the team playing week in week out.

We looked in control then.

Why are so many quick to forget that???

The minute we had to rely on fringe players we have struggled.

I mean it really is no great mystery ir reason to get negative and angry like some are.

Very messy performance. We will need to be much better for our next game. Sonny seems to be running on fresh air. He worked hard but his passing was dreadful.
