Anyway, on to the performance which is getting overshadowed.

I thought up until the red we were competing with a very Strong team. One which I believed would finish 2nd before this.

Liverpool threatened and we defended well in a few moments.

But we also switched off in a few moments and Robertson was allowed to make a free run into the penalty area which he almost scored from.

There are times we look a little vulnerable but I think Ange trusts our defenders to win their 1v1 battles which they largely do, especially Van de Ven and Romero.

But we will set caught out if midfielders arent paying attention to the off-runners.

Bissouma was guilty of that and then for the goal.

Be a bit more switched on and we will be a really tough nut to crack.

I think visually we look open, so it can be nervy and opposing fans think we look fragile but it is by design and I do think there is an element of control.

Van de Ven was largely quick out to Salah to slow him down and Udogie got back to cover well.

I thought we were better with the ball first half compared to Arsenal game and our only issue was really getting at their defence.

The red card made us a little unsure and Liverpool got that offside and we reacted very quickly to take the lead.

But then our naivety came into it.

Think we were a little unsure how to approach the game after that and got sloppy and switched off.

Dont know if the boys relaxed too much.

Second half we started strongly and looked like we were piling the pressure but I don't think Son helped with his injury.

Them going down to 9 actually threw a massive scanner because they abandoned all hope of winning and attacking and stuck 2 Banks in front and didnt bother to engage.

This is an issue for us.

We are set up to feel the press of the opposition. Some of our beat football is when we play through tje press as we slightly lull the opposition out and then we know where to pass and move around it.

When Liverpool dropped, there was no press and you could see our players were waiting to be engage before moving the ball or making movement. Thats why a lot of play went slowly side to side and ended with a cut inside which came to nothing.

We were waiting for a gap generally to penetrate.

This will be the next area to improve, our ability to go outside and mix it up.

Although Porro finally had the sense to do that at the end.

That part really stood out to me as well.

I thought we were very effective in playing the ball out of the back, players looked well drilled in where to be off-the-ball, and made all the right reads. I suspect that has been a primary focus in these early days - and that once Ange is comfortable that the players can play more instinctively, he will move on to the second item you identified here - attacking patterns in the final third.

Just watched MOTD and fair do's to Klopp for a measured and calm response to all of the controversy.

His first game was against Spurs at WHL.

His post match comments that night after (i think) a 1-1 draw was:

"We should be beating teams like this".

Fuck Klopp, and his team, hate them more than Woolwich.

It took extraordinary good luck to finally beat these twats. Today has shown that our squad depth is utterly woeful and that we desperately need a top-quality attacking signing in January.
Don't get this really. We're missing Johnson, Bentancur, Gil, Lo Celso and Perisic. Most teams missing 5 first team squad members would have some depth issues to say the least. Really only thin at CB and maybe CAM, but that's where you just have to play the young guys, can't have three players for every single position.

Did someone tell Todd Boehly this?

Perisic isn’t coming back, his season is over and his contract is up in June. It’s effectively as though we’d sold him.

Bentancur will likely play primarily in the Sarr box-to-box role and secondarily as a rotation option for Bissouma as a No. 6, so isn’t relevant to our lack of depth in attacking positions.

Gil and Lo Celso, meanwhile, are extremely unreliable from a fitness perspective. They’re both injured on a regular basis, if we’re relying on them we’re routinely going to be left short.

Add it all up and a single injury to Brennan Johnson (beyond the constantly-injured Gil/Lo Celso) left us with woefully inadequate options off the bench today.

Perisic was a playing a very important role in the squad and losing him for the season has created a gap that now needs to be filled.

They can go on all they like, but let’s be honest that first red is 100% red all day, and if our player did the same we wouldn’t have any complaints. The only thing they can argue is the Diaz goal, which for me is still a really strange one why it wasn’t given.

Lo Celso yes, but disagree regarding Gil. He played 17 games for Sevilla and 13 games for Valencia

A lot of faint praise for spurs in the press today. 365 claiming Liverpool clearly the better side (it was very even, IMO), Neville saying we'll be miles off challenging for the title, everyone saying we were lucky. But I thought we were brilliant in parts in that first half. And I thought we deserved to win. F*** 'em.

Probably depends which piece you read on F365. I’ve only read the 16 conclusions piece but that doesn’t say Liverpool were much the better side, and agrees with both sendings off.

I thought in the first half we played some fantastic football. Best passing sequences I’ve seen from us in years.
Also our confidence in playing out from the back is ridiculous, I still wince at times but the players seem so comfortable and are getting into positions to receive the ball not shying away

We have come from behind at least 3 times this season. Who is to say if that bloody goal stood we wouldn't have done it again?

I love how all these numpties think we would have automatically lost. 🤬
