I actually enjoyed the game, not the result obviously. It was end to end for most of the game and I was never sure which way it was going. In between the mistakes there was some good football from both sides and I think a draw would have been a fair result. We certainly need to sort out our defence but everytime you play both Emerson and Sanchez you are starting a game with only 9 men. They offer nothing going forward and are an accident waiting to happen in defence.

Really disappointing performance and result especially considering where a win would have taken us in the table.

You have to give credit to Southampton. They got their tactics spot on and their players were brilliant in executing the game plan . We saw Tuchel play a 4-2-2-2 against us in the first leg of the league cup and we really struggled with the pressing then as well. It's a very effective way of pressing a back 3 and could form a blue print for other teams to follow when setting up against us. Certainly something to keep an eye on and for Conte to figure out a solution for.

Saying that we also gave Southampton a huge amount impetus through a lot of our own failings on both an an individual and collective level. After a tough first 5 minute or so I thought we started to work our way into the game, had a couple of chances and grabbed a goal. After that though we made countless unforced errors and descended into panic mode for the rest of the half. Conte mentioned in his post match that we played with too much emotion and lacked game management and I think this period of the game really highlighted that. We lost all shape as some players pressed and other dropped off and Southampton just played through the spaces we were vacating and cut us open at will. We really needed someone out there to calm everyone down and if that meant just getting into a shape and seeing out the half then so be it. In the end we were lucky to still be level at the break.

Whilst we weren't great second half, I felt we regrouped reasonably well and made it a far more even contest after the break. We still made too many mistakes with the ball but managed to carve out some chances and grab another goal. At that point it felt we would grind our way to a valuable three points but poor game management let us down again and on the basis of the 90 minutes we probably got what we deserved.

Sad to hear about the negativity in the crowd- on the TV the support sounded strong- even some encouraging chants after the goal for 3-2. The booing at half time seemed a bit out of place.

I get that people/fans will always moan and that’s hillarious someone criticising Hoddle but this seems different mate it’s large swathes of the park lane game in game out, social media generation and instant gratification and all that I think + previous levy/enic mistakes + Jose/Nuno + pandemic, so I get it to an extend but the consistency and amount of moaning every game is odd and OTT imo.

It’s worse than ever now. The booing was crazy. Couldn’t believe my ears. Where’ve they all been the last 10/20/30 years?

It’s enough to make me think about packing it in.

When you get outshot by something like 25 shots to 10, shots on target by something like 10 to 3 (full game) and spent the whole first half basically playing negative counter attacking football, are very fortunate to even still be in the game, at home against Southampton, I feel the booing at half time was justified.
It was dreadful from us and Conte in that first period.
much of it though still stems back to the detachment of the fans to the club now in my view, and I think this booing will continue at every opportunity until Levy changes his MO.

Are you sure you weren’t mistaking Oh when the Saints chants after the 3-2 goal ?

There was 'Come on your Spurs' with late attacks.

They don't sound detached when we win.

No he's saying it as it is, and trying to temper expectations. People need to start listening to what he's been saying for weeks, this is going to take time. You might not like it but that's how it is.
Madness that the Conte propoganda just is going in one ear and out the other for many Spurs fans.

He's repeated the same thing pretty much every presser since he joined about a process and patience and time and the gap in quality and level to the teams we are trying to compete against but yet one bad result and performance and some are losing their shit.

Oh well... I think/hope the majority of switched on Spurs fans realise it is a process and take it for exactly that.

After listening to Conte talk about mistakes which lead to mental instability (shitting our pants), the likes of Sanchez and Emerson (and perhaps even winks who lost the ball in dangerous situations due to errors) will never be good enough and need to only be played if we have no choice. They consistently make these mistakes which make the entire team nervous. I hope Dier is back next game.

Talk about one step forward and two steps back.
I know our defenders are poor apart from Romero but I'm not so certain it's all their fault, we don't seem to be able to control games from midfield if our attacks break down it all comes back to the defenders nothing happens in midfield.
I don't understand why we pay the money that we have for Bentancur and not bring him on until the 60th minute why play someone like Winks in front of him who we'd be lucky to get 8m for. Hopefully thins will change when Bentancur starts as he looks class.

Saints were good, but when are we going to stop shooting ourselves in the foot with all the avoidable mistakes. We put so much pressure on ourselves and Premier League players are ALWAYS going to punish you.

One day a spurs manager will realise that we don’t have the backbone, players or crowd to sit on leads, perhaps Chelsea are the only team that are comfortable to play that way.
We all knew a minute after Sonny scored that we were in for a terrible last 15 bacause we retreated 15 yards into our half. We won’t always win playing on the front foot but with the players we have in defence it’s a shocking tactic against any Premier league team .

Propaganda is the word. He’s like a politician always blaming the previous lot and telling how great a job he is going because if the mess we are. Most people seem to willingly buy such garbage

I meant it more as in he keeps repeating the same message so people are aware, I meant it in a positive way regarding setting expectations with the fans and that time and patience is needed.

Conte far more than any of our managers before and far far more than any of us will know what it takes to build a successful team and squad, he's pretty honest in the media which is very refreshing especially after bloody 'blood out of a stone' Nuno.

Anyone who sits not in Park Lane is it really negative and toxic around you also?

I'm wonder if its just a certain section of the Park Lane upper as don't recall it being quite this bad in the Shelf but haven't sat there for a few years...

It was from the first seconds too. Sanchez missed his first header then sliced the next ball into touch. From that minute I knew we were in trouble.

When we somehow got into the break at 1 all I did think we’d win though. Just because that’s football.
