At this rate we’ll be getting knocked out of the Champions League… at least we won’t have fixture congestion that we’re incapable of even attempting to cope with.

Up until the goal, we were marginally the better team and playing with a bit of purpose and energy. I’ve no issues with the goal - Edwards is unplayable sometimes and it was right off the post - but the moment they scored, Sporting adapted into control-mode, keeping possession with ease and keeping a disciplined shape.

The problem is that we lost energy completely and started popping the ball in and out of defence to no great purpose and with virtually no ideas. There’s been no pressing whatsoever - why not?

Lucas was fine when there was space, but now that’s gone and he can’t keep the ball (plus he is still a step short of pace and his game depends on it).

We need Kulusevski back urgently and a creative player to put some zip into our passing.

I hope that 45 mins burns into the conscience of all those fans over the last few years who have made seemingly every excuse under the sun about why you can't play positive front foot technical football and the excuses/defences made about several of our players.

With all respect to them, a comparative minnow team with comparative no-mark players, including a few PL rejects and one of those (the goalscorer) being our own academy reject, playing us off the park in the football stakes. Agile, technical players who can pass and move individually plus the approach/tactics to go with it.

Our lumbering flatfooted oafs have struggled to get near them, it's reached the stage beyond anger and embarrassment. You just pitied them by the end of the half.

Maybe we turn it around second half, maybe we don't. But that's been a 45 mins that shows us up.

Only Kane and Bentancur has any sort of on the ball ability in this eleven. No wonder there is no creativity on the pitch. One good CB, one great finisher (who is fully out of form), one Gk who might make a catastrophic mistake anytime.
The rest are just bang average generic footballers.

I haven't enjoyed watching us for years. Is it going to change?

We actually played some decent stuff end of last season from march to may, (albeit not dominating every match). What has happened since then other than deki getting injured is beyond me, its like these players haven’t ever played together before.

I’d go back 4. Conte won’t btw. Give Gil some minutes. He’ll probably fall over a lot but might just give us a minute of magic. Can’t be any worse than Son, Moura, Peresic.

So many of our players are massively overrated by our fan base. There are probably 4 players in this 11 tonight that I’d be confident with going forward to keep us as a top 4 team (Kane, Son, Romero, Bentancur). The rest are either bang average or flat track bullies that never turn up in the big games against real quality opponents

That run of form at the end of the season has really deluded us.

It's starting to look more and more like Kulusevski made all the difference to this team and it was a spark but in reality we still needed so much more.

Romero's not playing well at the moment but he's playing alongside Dier and Lloris who have started the season shockingly and a mistake in them which is effecting his game.

Dier has been absolute shit as well since he got his bloody call up to England. His passing is desperate at best and wasteful at worst.

I think Conte's biggest mistake was thinking some of this lot were good enough for his team.

Hes a smart guy, he knows he fucked up. Trouble is he really cant do much until the window opens.

Sorry thats a pathetic excuse. As a manager you are paid to get the best out what you have. While doing that you get some players for your ideas. He got that, and we regress. Mentality, style of play, flexibility, creativity, solutions.... the coach has a huge influence in these points. Its just disappointing all the negativity in his game plans, line ups, substitutions etc. Why should the players feel different?

Moura is a passenger. I’d play Gil instead of him at least he puts in a shift and Moura feels like going through the motions until he leaves at the end of the season.

We’ll probably manage to finish 3rd and then have to face getting knocked out of the Europa League at the first hurdle while Arsenal go on to win the bloody thing.
