I actually don't mind the club - in fact in recent times when other clubs have resorted to shameless tapping up via the media and other under-hand methods, I respect Arsenal for not doing likewise.

However here in Milton Keynes, Arsenal are, among people my age at least (mid-20s) the smug arm-chair supporter's club of choice. And I hate fans like that - fans who believe everything they read in the press because the back-pages are the closest they actually get to the game for real, fans who will sit in the pub on a Saturday lunchtime and ask each other "Oi Phil, who are we playing today?", fans for whom football is more about winding up other fans than the passion and ecstasy that comes from hugging the complete stranger next to you when you score a last-gasp winner, and fans who are almost impossible to wind up themselves because they do not now, and never will, care half as much about as football as I do!

So yes, I do hate Arsenal, but I respect the manner in which they have condicted themselves off the field in recent years more than I do Manure, Chelscum, Citeh or Liverpool.

I don't like Arsenal but don't hate them and respect Wenger's accomplishments - playing good football and having (relative) success without spending much money. He's been excellent at bringing in younger players and getting them to play his system. At least they are doing things the right way and deserve to be a club in contention.

I loathe Man City though, I hate the mentality the owners just throwing money around to get all the best players instantly and despise most of their players, many of whom were already quite objectionable and who now are looking for some easy accomplishments and obscene amounts of money.

Can understand this to a certain extent.

For me hatred of Chelsea is perfectly rational, for the reasons you mentioned - mostly because they've got so many undeniably racist fans. And for the fans that aren't racist, well, I couldn't support a team that has so many other supporters behaving like that. That goes for Spurs too, if racist chants became the norm at WHL I wouldn't go. End of. I'd probably go watch Fulham.

Arsenal, however is more of an emotional thing. Football is about rivalries, and they're our immediate rivals. I hate them and I expect them to hate us. I don't see anything wrong with that, it's just football banter and it adds to the experience. Obviously, if it's used as an excuse for hooliganism then that is wrong.

Saying that, I do often cringe a bit when the "stand up if you..." chant goes round. For some reason, that seems a bit juvenile to me - I'd rather sing positive songs about our players. I'm always the last to stand up and that's only so I can see what's going on in the match.

I agree with all the above except that I wouldn't use the word "hate". I get the rivalry, but I never lived in North London and therefore never experienced it as intensely as someone who might say they hate Arsenal. I am West Londoner and my experience was much more our rivalry with seedy and soulless CFC.

Like you, I too cringe at that "stand up if you..." chant. It's not very witty, it's used far too often totally randomly and there is so much more to our club than our rivalry with Arsenal.

It is very much more to our club than our rivalry with Arsenal, but our rivalry is also very much a part of our club, and it is not like it is the only chant we ever sing.

I hate them, and I expect everyone else to hate them, from fans to management to players, and I don't mind us reminding everyone of the fact.

I've got a fair few mates who are Arsenal fans and, to be fair, it's always quite good banter with them. That said, whilst I respect him for what he's done, I cannot stand Arsene Wenger or any of their players. They are all snivelling little shits and I hate to see them get any kind of success.

Whereas, with Chelsea, I really just hate their fans. No banter, no class, just a bunch of horrible people who seem to have latched onto us as their main London derby (mainly because Fulham are rubbish). The same can be said of West Ham's supporters.

I like it when we beat those two clubs just to shut up the charmless thugs that they call supporters. With Arsenal, I just want us to wipe the smugness off the faces of the likes of Van Persie, Fabregas, that Tranny Nasri and, most of all, watch Wenger squirm (obviously it provides some good natured banter with my Gooner mates too though!).

I hate Arsene Wenger and the way that he can never accept fault with any of his players. I hate the way he tries to dismiss the rivalry with us only to get more wound up against us than in any other game. I hate the fact that he has made the world associate our brand off football with that traditionally defensive long ball no talent side. I hate the patronising comments he makes about us in the build up to any match against them and in his post match interviews. I hate that he coerced our Spurs grown captain and best player into leaving us for them. I hate the fact that every team he produces is filled with diving, cheating, whinging scumbags.

I hate Robert Pires, I hate Thierry Henry, I hate Patrick Vieira, I hate Samir Nasri, I hate Freddie Ljungberg, I hate Ashley Cole, I hate Jens Lehmann. I hate their very personalities. They are ugly, soulless wretches whose very existence I detest. These, and more, are the diving, cheating, whinging scumbags to whom I made reference. Most of all, of course, I hate Sol Campbell. He and Arsenal humiliated us like no club has been humiliated by a player before or since. Our captain, brought up since a teen, made what he was by us and loved by us, and he followed the pound signs to sign for our biggest rivals.

I hate George Graham. I hate him for becoming our manager, filling us with awful, talentless, dour footballers who only knew how to play long ball. I hate that he made me watch Freund, Leonhardson, Perry, Thatcher, and brought in Andy Booth on loan. I hate that he substituted our genius, our most beloved player in every damn match just to show him who was boss, and then forced him out of the club against the wishes of every single fan.

I hate Martin Keown, Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn and Tony Adams. I hate the thugs that they were, I hate their neanderthalic approach to football, I hate the fact that they breathed and bled Arsenal. I hate Paul Merson, Charlie Nicholas and Alan Smith. I hate the fact that on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday I put up with their constant, condescending tripe, their complete and utter bias towards Arsenal and against us. I hate that Paul Merson is allowed, on live TV, to openly criticise our fans when he played for the worst fans in football while a Gooner.

That's the worst part, their fans. They have a 60,000 seater shrouded in silence. Before that it was the Library. Beyond that, they are the most ignorant and unintelligent human beings on the planet. They actually believe that football started and finished with their poxy club from a Ghetto in Woolwich, that pre Wenger joining them nobody had ever seen exciting attacking football. Newsflash Gooners, we were knocking the ball about and playing champagne stuff while you were still dragging your knuckles and swinging in the tree. I have never met an Arsenal fan with whom I could have any type of conversation, whether about football, music, politics, love, anything for that matter. They are foul, they are retarded and while it is not intentional, I am delighted and proud to say that I cannot call any Arsenal supporter my friend, nor any of my friends an Arsenal supporter. I hate them the most.

So, while I don't stand up when the chant goes off at Spurs, I do loathe, despise, wrench at the thought of/ smell of them and utterly curse their very being. Do I hate them? Yes, in the purest and most unadulterated form of the word, I hate them.

A facebook interaction between a gooner friend of mine and his gooner mate which made me laugh.....
Gooner 1:Denilson, Eboue and Squillaci all shit! so pissed off.

Gooner 2: I'm losin passion? erm I'm in wigan right nw...where the fuck r u? all the fans wa singin at the end of the game...its called true support...u js sit der slatin the team...nt gna giv confidence isit?

Gooner 1: just because I am not there watching the game it don't mean I am any less of a fan! Thats a bogus argument! You got the time to go I DONT. So what if they are all singing but the fans that aint singing are venting their passion in a different way like me, I won't applaud such a shit performance or sing after it fuck that! I expect more!

The reason this made me laugh is because Gooner 1 not two days before was ranting and raving after they beat CHelsea about how Arsenal were going to win the league and bring barca on in the CL.......was probably thinking the very same thing right up until the time Squillaci headed the ball in his own net.

It is very much more to our club than our rivalry with Arsenal, but our rivalry is also very much a part of our club, and it is not like it is the only chant we ever sing.

This chant is sung at every game several times irrespective of who we are playing or what is happening on the pitch. The majority of our fans are North Londoners and to them the Arsenal rivalry is a way of life. I just think the chant is a little boring and they could think of something better and perhaps some variety would be good.

On another note, I never quite understand how someone who did not grow up in North London can join in quite so passionately with this "hatred" of Arsenal. It just seems somewhat contrived.

I hate them, and I expect everyone else to hate them, from fans to management to players, and I don't mind us reminding everyone of the fact.

Spurs has a massive global fan base. Clearly many have very different ways of expressing their support whatever you expect of them.

Reasons to hate Arsenal........

They got us relegated from Division 1 after World War 1

They set up in North London from Woolwich when we were already here

They got a tube station named after then (when will it get named back to Gillespie Road?)

Charlie George

Peter Storey

Tony Adams

George Graham

Nicking Petit from us

Scoring all those last minutes goals against us in the past

Poisoning Sol against us then nicking him

Taking Pat Jennings

Sending us Terry Neil to get us relegated

Pires

Bould

Wenger's abuse of little boys

Keown

Perry Groves

Wearing red shirts

Having "arse" in their name

Winning more than us

Alan Smith's biased Sky comments

David Semen's pony tail

Daring to think that Theo is better than Bale

Beating us in cup semi finals (but Gazza's goal is the one that everyone remembers)

80 years pre Wenger of Boring dull football - They were the reason that the back pass to the keep had to be abolished

continuing to exist

That's enough for now......

My dad grew up in Cyprus until the age of 17, before moving to North London to study and make a life for himself, and I can say quite honestly that everything I have described above could have been said by him with as much passion as I say it. None of the reasons I gave are anything to do with locality, that was just the seed for the rivalry. Since then, so many more factors over so many decades have come into play to make the rivalry and hatred more intense.

If you ever went to WHL in the late 70's or early 80's you will know why. Bricks flying at an 8 year olds head for a starters.

The anti semitism of thier fans (even though a lot are Jewish) ?

Moving across London, funded by the govt and church to our manor.

Getting us relegated when they had no reason to be promoted to div 1 except money.

Terry Neil

Donkey
Monkey Head

Getting a new stadium part funded through the council

Being consistently better than us for 20 odd years

Getting Bergkamp

Yes they may play nice football but they hate us, pity us, look down on us and their firm would kill you as much as look at you.

Understand the history not sentiments that they play nice football etc etc

Chavs are 2nd, then Spammers and for me Man City and Leeds as have been in two riots at their grounds.
