Would be a shame if true, we need that stability he and AVB bring
Werder Bremen have refused to comment on speculation suggesting Tottenham assistant head coach Steffen Freund is the man they want to replace Thomas Schaaf.
The North German outfit are looking at options for their vacant managerial role at the Weserstadion and general manager Thomas Eichin has confirmed that one person is in the frame as the 'ideal candidate'.
However, Eichin refused to reveal his identity with Freund strongly linked, along with fellow former Germany international Mehmet Scholl and former FC Basel boss Heiko Vogel.
Eichin told Kreiszeitung Syke: "I can confirm we have an ideal candidate for the vacancy.
"We now have the obligation to convince our target to be the right man to take over the job at our club. We have already been in touch and talks have begun.
"Our plan is to confirm the arrival in those next two to four weeks."
Asked whether it was Freund, he added: "I am not going to make comments on any of the names mentioned. I do not intend to discuss this."
