Would be a shame if true, we need that stability he and AVB bring

Werder Bremen have refused to comment on speculation suggesting Tottenham assistant head coach Steffen Freund is the man they want to replace Thomas Schaaf.
The North German outfit are looking at options for their vacant managerial role at the Weserstadion and general manager Thomas Eichin has confirmed that one person is in the frame as the 'ideal candidate'.
However, Eichin refused to reveal his identity with Freund strongly linked, along with fellow former Germany international Mehmet Scholl and former FC Basel boss Heiko Vogel.
Eichin told Kreiszeitung Syke: "I can confirm we have an ideal candidate for the vacancy.
"We now have the obligation to convince our target to be the right man to take over the job at our club. We have already been in touch and talks have begun.
"Our plan is to confirm the arrival in those next two to four weeks."
Asked whether it was Freund, he added: "I am not going to make comments on any of the names mentioned. I do not intend to discuss this."

Was just about to make a thread and you beat me to it :p

Would be absolutely gutted if he left! He's made a massive impact on the club/fans in just 1 year - similar to what VDV did

well he seemed over the moon last season when he arrived so not sure he'd leave so soon.

I think Werder Bremen should only be allowed to talk with him if the director can jump higher than him

Hmmm... so there's speculation on whether it's Freund, but when asked about it their GM pretty much just said "go away".

Not much of anything there really.

Surely he wasn't AVB's first choice though? Any idea about compensation if they take him?

Would be sorely missed, but the head coach position at Werder Bremen is a big step up for him so fair play if he wants to leave.

Think we should get Sandro to have a persuasive quiet talk with Steffan, then he'll stay.

Maybe we could get Mauricio Taricco in as AVB's assistant, I hear it's not going too well at Brighton...

Ha, I'd fucking love that. Taricco fucking gave everything for us. I'll always remember him in the 5-1 v Chelsea, he played as if he was possessed! It's only in the last few years where Ekotto has become immense that I've taken Tano out of my dream team of players I've actually seen (I'm too young for Cyril Knowles obviously).

I can't see it happening myself. He loves the club too much.
