Below is the squad i think we will have going into the season.
Where are we strong? Where do we need to improve and bring in new players??

Mine would be(4-4-2):
GK's:I think these 2 are fine.
GOMES
Alnwick

RB's:These two are also fine
HUTTON
Gunter

CB's:All depends on King and even still think we need to sign another CB especially with Rocha,Gardener etc going.
WOODGATE
KING
Dawson
????----Hudd/Zok/Gunter can fill in-hopefully we sign one!

LB's:Very strong
BALE
Assou-Eketto

RM's:Assuming we sign Bentley this would be wonderful otherwise mabye need another RM to compete with Lennon.
BENTLEY
Lennon

CM's:pretty decent now-see how Jenas and Hudd develop and how modric gets on.
MODRIC
JENAS
Zokora
Huddlestone
Bostock

LM's:Seems strong and alot of potentiol.
DOS SANTOS
O'Hara

ST's:All depends on Keaneo and Berby if they go we are in desperate need of 2 strikers.
PAVLYCHENKO
ASHARVIN
Bent
Pekhart

1st team:
.......................................Gomes..................................

.........Hutton...........Woodgate..........King............Bale......

.........Bentley..........Modric...............Jenas.....Dos Santos.

..........................Pavlychenko....Asharvin........................

Subs:
Alnwick
Dawson
Assou-Eketto
Huddlestone
Zokora
Lennon
Bent

So On reflection we have a damn good squad. Very strong in virtually all areas. Priorities should be fairly simple.

1.Strikers!!!-IF KEANE and Or Berby leave
2.CB Weather King is fit or not we still need more cover there unless the plan really is to have Zokora or Hudd to fill in there which i'd not be too pleased with and we'd never solve our main problem DEFENCE!!!
3.RM-depends on weather or not we get Bentley if so thats awsome, if not we may need another RM or just a versetile winger also depends on Steed.

BUT Must say we are doing mightly well clearing out all these players i.e Chimbonda,Tainio,Kaboul,Robbo,Steed?,Gardener etc etc bringing in a fair bit of cash to perhaps break even with our purchases so far who should massively improve us and then it's all down to Keane and Berby, if they stay we just use our remaining transfer kitty to get Bentley and a CB and life is great. If one or both go then we hopefully still get Bentley, a CB and 1 or 2 new strikers and depending on who they are i.e Asharivn we could well have an almost 'perfect squad' with a fantastic mix of established, experienced professionals and many many young exciting talents and much competition in all areas.

Is all this change a good thing YES most certiantly. I for one am very optomisic and excited and think the club are doing very very well and are just wating on certian things i.e mabye trying to sign a striker or 2 THEN we may think about letting Keane and/or Berby going, also waiting to sort out a Robbo deal, THEN we can mabye go for Bentley and also waiting on King as to weather we need to go for that CB we've got lined up ;)

it's all dandy.

When I saw the lineup for the Hercules friendly I realised how badly we need 2-3 experienced internationals. I'm happy with the amount of kids we have involved, but the Naybet/Davids signings can make a big difference.

Yea great point actually mate. At this stage we have many many talented youngsters but great shout for a few more experienced heads. Ideal signings IMO would be:Bentley,Eto'o and and experienced CB

I think last season our obvious strength was our strikers. It seems Ramos felt our weakness lay mostly in the midfield area and has made some moves to improve it. I think Modric will prove a fantastic aquisition. His vision and awareness was fantastic during the Euro's. I still think we are maybe a little short in midfield in that we don't really have a natural DM so that limits our options. We have some good players in midfield, I guess it depends how they can gel together.

The side that played against Hercules isn't really a fair refelection on the strength of our team, more the depth of quality in the squad. There were a number of first team players missing for various reasons. It would have looked a much stronger side with Hutton, King, Bale, Keane and Modric in it, but I would agree we could still do with a couple of top class additions and some experience. For me maybe two international standard midfielders and an experienced centre back. Of course if we lose Keane and/or Berbatov they will need replacing.

With the prospective departure of our strikers, we have lost our edge.

Our midfield has improved - more creativity and goals. But I don't think this compensates the departure of our strikers.

As things stand our team has weakened. We need to concede ALOT LESS goals.

Bently wasn't involved in the Blackburn's friendly last night, so if he wasn't injured, I assume he would be signing for us in the next few days.

For the CB area, I don't think we should be relying on King being fit as his records show that's so unlikely. Bringing in a top class CB is a must imo.

As for the frontline, if Keane doesn't feature against Norwich, he's definitely on his way, which I don't think Ramos will find it difficult to replace. My hope is we hang on to Berbatov. Imagine the Berba & Villa partnership with Modric, GDS and Bently behind.

i think one of our main problems for the past two seasons has ben holding the ball when under pressure and protecting the back four. modric could and should remedy the first so in my eyes we absolutely need to sign a strong, tactically aware, experienced, defensive midfielder. this wasn't addressed last season and in my eyes it is more important in contributing to our woeful defensive record than the personnel in the defensive positions, ala dawson, robbo, kaboul et al. address this and tactically we'll be stronger with less pressure on the defensive unit.

For the first time in who knows how long, I think our defensive line is our strongest area. Gomes, Hutton, Woodgate, King and Bale are potentially one of the best defences in the country.

Modric, Dos Santos, Huddlestone and Lennon hold a lot of creativity between them, but our midfield still lacks steel. Hopefully Zokora or even Jenas can step up to become the defensive holding player we've been crying for.

Our attack is hard to predict. If we sell Keane and/or Berbatov, that leaves us with only Bent and Pekhart. So obviously, we'll need at least one forward brought in. We're all hoping for Villa, but I still feel it's very unlikely that he'll come to us, so I'll wait to pass judgement on this position until it's a little more certain as to who is going and who is coming in.

So, in comparison with the rest of the league, I'd say.

Goalkeeper: 8/10
Defence: 8/10
Midfield: 6.5/10
Attack: TBC

I think we are forgetting that Huddlestone jst signed a new contract so there are plans there. Jenas is abot to turn 25 which is when English central midfielders start to turn up(Lampard, Carrick, Gerrard). I have nothing about Marlbranque going except from the press, maybe he might not. And what about Taarabt.
