Isn't sell on clauses based on profit? And we sold Andros for 14m was it? Therefore no profit made.

Just imagine how much they would offer for Harry Kane...He alone going to China could pay for more than the stadium!

Ben Arfa has gone to PSG, Mandanda has signed for Palace.

Deeney has signed a new 5-year deal at Watford.

Hulk gone to China for £40m.

What a bizarre career he's had. Brazil > Japan > Portugal > Russia > China.

Strange from Watford there. The huge Deeney offer before and now this. With 70m, surely they could get better? Deeney is okay and Ighalo went right off the boil from January onwards.

Maybe it was the fear of losing their two best strikers and ending up with crap, ala Berbatov and Keane.

The thing is, the whole league is awash with fucking ridiculous money now, which means two things. 1) The likes of Sadio Mané cost £34m. 2) The entire league can offer silly amounts for players (like Palace for Batashuayi), which means Watford would only be able to get a good replacement if none of the many clubs more attractive than them were interested. They'd be left with lots of money - which they simply don't need if they stay up - to try and find a hidden gem, and risk relegation if they fail. That's how we live in a world where £70m for Deeny and Ighalo isn't an attractive offer.

I think the pace and intensity of the league caught up with Ighalo a bit. I reckon he may do well again next year.

This is true, but.. Watford has links with Udinese and Granada still, they just signed Isaac Success for about 11m - a striker? wing forward? not really sure. They have the opportunities to pick up lower-priced players from all over using their links to other clubs and pocket the change. Ighalo came about that way and so does Success, the player not the concept of winning...

The Watford supporters almost universally say that Deeney is wildly important to the club on and off the pitch. They say that he is the only one that steadies a clubhouse and really the club itself as they churn through players and managers. He also apparently is very involved in the community and various charities both personally and on behalf of the club.

When LCFC made the £30m offer for Deeney i continually saw Watford supporters saying that Deeney too important to sell and that they would be angry if the club took any offer seriously and didn't just outright dismiss it.

I am surprised that they would pass up on cash for Ighalo especially since I think Watford accepted a bid from China for FAR less (something like £20m less) from China in January only for Ighalo to turn down the move.

Maybe Ighalo told Watford that he has no interest in going to China under any circumstance? Watford then just turns down offers knowing Ighalo won't sign any contract?....otherwise i don't really get it.

Former Spurs legend Dean Parrett has signed for AFC Wimbledon

Manager Neal Ardley today completed his third signing of the summer with the addition of former Stevenage midfielder Dean Parrett.

“He was in demand,” said a delighted Neal, who beat off competition for Parrett’s signature in strengthening his options in the middle. “It was a last minute snatch from the jaws of a different club and a big club at that, so that was nice as it’s happened to us a few times!”

The 24 year-old established himself in league football with Stevenage after loan spells at a number of clubs, but made his senior debut at Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Cup against Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Cup in 2009. He has represented England from under-16 through to under-20 level.

“I’ve liked Dean ever since he was at Spurs,” added Neal, “He used to play against my academy and I rated him highly then. He went on loan to Yeovil and went off the radar for a little while, but having seen him for a couple of years at Stevenage I thought that last season he was the player I saw before and rated so highly.”
