People seem to forget that Bissouma is currently facing sexual assault charges. If acquitted, fine. Until then? HARD pass.
Yeah, I've want that type of player, we should go for Sangare. The only issue is he has only played in weak leagues and would he be able to transfer those performances to the EPL. Bissouma was able to, but you never know. I think he has more chance of being able to than Ndombele or Soumare though.

One of Bissouma, Phillips or Neves has to come in for me. Rare opportunity to upgrade a position with a prem proven option from clubs we can buy from.
Phillips is an upgrade on PEH. Bissouma has that court case. Neves would be a creative part in a midfield 3.

Yeah if Leeds go we have to go for Phillips (hope Conte likes him).

You could rule out Chelsea (takeover situation) and United (won't join Leeds rivals).

Unless City and Liverpool are interested, which I haven't seen, then we have to have a great chance.

I would love us to sign him but fully expect City to go for him to replace Fernandinho. England’s starting CDM who can play CB as cover makes too much sense surely.

I am oddly calm about this summer. There is not a single player that I would classify as “must have”. I trust Paratici implicitly to identify players that fit Conte’s remit, are affordable, and are prepared to play in this league.

I don’t care who the players are - I trust the team. (It’s been a while since I thought that).

Personally I think we need both Neves and Phillips. Given the expected Champions League and domestic matches plus inevitable fatigue, injuries and suspensions having 5 central midfielders is a must. We currently play 2 but by having 5 it would give us the flexibility to play 3 in the middle.

Bentancur, Phillips, Hojbjerg, Skipp, Neves = defensive stability, physical presence and progressive passing (Neves). I would still look to sign Eriksen as well.
Whilst I agree, can't see us stumping that cash. Neves would be 70mil ish.

Totally agree with you. Pretty much every player linked makes sense so far and the idea that Conte will (hopefully) approve makes me even more calm

Fernandinho has made 9 starts in the league this season, I doubt Phllips would be happy with similar.

I'm not convinced we need another DM type player. We're set with PEH & Skipp. We need a player who would be better going forward. That is unless we move on from PEH which I don't think we will.

If we’re going to continue playing a lot of 3-4-3 then we need one more option in the holding midfield positions, IMO.

We’ve been very fortunate that both Bentancur and Hojbjerg have stayed fit (minor problem for Bentancur following the wet conditions away to Burnley aside) since Skipp picked up his groin injury. Imagine where we’d be if we had needed to call upon Winks for a run of matches.

One injury and we were immediately in the position of needing the same CM partnership to play every single match. It’s not sustainable, particularly not when we’ll be playing in four competitions with a World Cup shoehorned into the middle of the season.

We need to upgrade Winks with someone who is actually trustworthy. That’s a separate question from whether we also need an Eriksen type (imo we do).

Couldn't we then just run a 3 man midfield with Tielemans/Eriksen/Bentancur and one of PEH/Skipp?

We could, but that would require a departure from Conte’s preferred formation this season. Even when Ndombele and Lo Celso were in the squad and our options were more amendable to a 3-5-2, we were still lining up in the 3-4-3 every match.

Ideally we’d have adequate options to play either, which is why I say we need a Winks replacement and an Eriksen type, but we most certainly shouldn’t be leaving ourselves short for the 3-4-3.

I've been reading it as we're interested in both. I'm sure there's tons of names out there but bentancur, Skipp, peh can partner in a 2 and tielemans and eriksen can both be added to one of those in a 3. Also both could play as an inside 10 in the 343 if needed.

Also I'm sure FP has 150393772 other targets as well lol

I’d agree with you. But I think Phillips has the talent and skillset to be a box-to-box midfielder. Great passer, skillful, good engine.

Bissouma's miles ahead, but isn't he kinda of similar to what we already have at the club.
Very quick, nimble, athletic, good on the ball and can hold it under pressure in tight spaces, can drive the team forward with ball carrying and a sharp passing ability, along with being defensively very good because of previously mentioned athleticism and reading of the game. He’s basically a wirey version of Dembele in my opinion, just not as good defensively but probably better on the ball and going forward (not enough goal contributions but he progresses the ball better). I don’t think he’s anything like anyone we currently have and would be a perfect Conte style all action midfielder in a 2 or a 3 man midfield

Obviously goes without saying, but we’re discussing the merits of signing him in the hypothetical scenario that he is acquitted. Could become a bit of a sticky situation for him if it’s not resolved for him soon with his Brighton contract running very close to the end

because they are piss poor, not Conte preferring 343 to 352, just look at his Inter team

The player we need is Aurelien Tchouameni, but the sweepstakes for him this summer are going to be between Liverpool, Madrid, and maybe City/Chelsea if they can stump up the cash.

I haven't been as sure that a midfielder is going to become world class in years. He has everything a midfielder could ever want, elite athleticism and tackling, great vision, advanced dribbling/passing, and he can strike a ball incredibly well on top of that.

Sucks that we'll likely see him in red.

It’s probably the biggest game of his young career. Just because he’s not played great doesn’t mean he’s whack.
I'll agree with that. Kyle Walker has done okay for himself doing with similar limitations. But if we're looking for someone to step in and make an immediate impact, I think there are more polished players available.
