In terms of maximising transfer fees received, maybe it would be better to hang on to the players we want out until January?

January is much more a sellers market. I’m sure it would be much easier to offload players who are surplus to requirements during that transfer window.

We need to stop messing around and get them done but I can see Lloris, Dier, PEH, Reggy and Ndombele all being moved on somehow and ideally Sanchez involved in a deal that brings in a HG player the other way.

That seems to solve a lot of the HG issues.

Maybe all the outs are done and we are just saving them all up to announce them one by one in a short 7 day advent calendar style countdown to the final day of the transfer window which concludes with us signing a CB,RW and ST and then our social media team doing a post saying Happy Early Christmas Ange, Rebuild Complete :ROFLMAO: 😅 🐷 ✈️...

I see where you’re heading. The Angebuild is complete.

Why would we sell Gio?
You're looking at 50 million to replace him like for like.
He's under contract and if Madddison is injured we don't have anyone to replace that skill set if we sell.
I guess that depends on where the club see Alfie Devine is in his progression.

Absolutely. In some ways ( and actually in an ideal world) I would love to keep Gio as I think he is a very good footballer. BUT let's be honest and say if Maddison is fit he is NOT going to play. Add to that fact that apparently Deki is being looked at for the "8" roll and that we have one of the country's most talented young players in that sort of position waiting for first team football.

I would assume we would have given Alfie more minutes in pre season in the CAM position if we think he is ready to replace Maddison if needed. Its a big ask.

A few thoughts

I really want Tosin , I didn't realise how fast he is. Imagine were in a home game against a low block . If we have Tosin and VDV playing then good luck trying to hit us on the break. The more pace at the back the better in my opinion

I'm keen for us to loan and not sell Spence. Even in the championship I think he would play his way into getting us a profit if we can find a team that plays 3 at the back

Unless we sell Lo Celso I don't think we need another midfielder and that's presuming we do sell Holjberg. The only thing I'd look at is a young understudy to Bissouma but it has to be a similar mould.

All this squad lacks in my opinion is centre back competition and a forward who can play across the front line or maybe a winger and a young forward to develop.

Big ask for Alfie.
But if you're good enough you're old enough.
Personally I don't see it.
Alfie needs a loan imo. I don’t think he even had 90 mins total of senior football does he? Selling Gio would be nuts at this imo. Fact is Maddison is partial to the odd knock and I can also see Gio and Maddison in the same 11. Considering how pivotal the No 10 role is in this system I think it would be a lot to ask of the kid. Alfie could do with playing week in week out and then next season we should look to integrate him into the squad.

That's another 5 months of wages, plus unhappy players knowing they're not part of the squad, not good for the vibe.

Devine is better suited for the Sarr/Skipp role IMO, as he is good at making runs into the box to get on the end of things rather than creating a bit deeper. Donley has been playing the "Maddison role" for the U21s and is really thriving there so far. He has the same amount of assists in 2 games playing there than his previous 24 games.

Been thinking about this over the last few days. Ideally I’d like keep GLC as natural competition/cover for Maddison almost like for like. However, if he is genuinely unsettled, I can see the benefit of letting him leave and taking the opportunity to reshape the squad slightly. If Hojberg also goes, the one CM to replace the pair, but someone capable of playing one of the deeper roles, preferably Bissouma type 6, because he’s been so key to our play in this first two games, setting the tempo and dictating the play out from the back, I’m not sure anyone else is capable of playing that same role. Douglas Luiz or similar would be my choice. Similar skills but also capable of advancing more as an 8 if needed. Then by bringing in someone like Brennan Johnson you could free Kulusevski to be the Maddison backup option, with Devine afforded minutes also. Then get Orban to understudy Richarlison, plus a quality CB to ensure there is no drop off from Romero/VdV and we’re actually looking quite good.

If Sanchez gets the nod tonight instead of Dier, it will up the enquiries for Dier and might be him leaving instead of Davinson.
Yes, Sanchez will be sold over Dier because he is so much better. Since his humiliation last season a more focussed Sanchez has barely put a foot wrong. Motm performance vs Barcelona, fine as Romero replacement recently .
A canny DoF will get a bargain (Eg, we accepted 12 mill Russian offer) on a player that cost 40 mill and is still a 40 mill player imo (as long as he keeps this level of focus).

Dier will stay, Sanchez will go. Mistake imo.

Reo Hatate is a similar player to Gio, knows Ange's system and shouldn't cost anywhere near £50m

The forwards we’ve been linked to seem to be either strikers who can play wing (Miami, David, or ban) or wingers who can play up top (Johnson) which suggests to me we might build towards a fluid system with interchanging forwards rather than the more traditional touch line hugging wingers Ange had used before. Might be the way to get the best out of son ?

I don’t see a HG problem. We can have 17 over 21 foreign players. Sarr and Udogie are under 21 so don’t count in the numbers, but they are in the team, never mind the squad.
That takes us to 19. Forster, Austin, Skipp, Davies take the squad to 23. Depends on Sess injury whether he stays or goes.
A squad of 23 is well enough as we don’t have Europe.
Just need to shift the usual suspects to get the numbers down.
