Walker Kaboul Vert. New LB

Sandro Paulinho Eriksen

Lamela Adebayor New LF

That wouldn't be too bad for next year.

We do have a lot of average journeymen that need to be shown the door though.

Siggy, Chadli, Dawson, Rose, Naughton, Townsend, Lennon just aren't good enough for me.

Dembele, well, I just don't know what to make of him these days. Put Capoue and Soldado in that bracket.

Chiriches and Bentaleb to be given time.

the hate on townsend is so crazy to me. our squad is obnoxiously boring and chalk full of players that just play backpasses and run about for 90 minutes. townsend is in no way a world beater but our squad is crying out for a player like him and the only difference between his shots and the wonder goals bale was scoring last season is a couple inches (okay... a couple feet.... or a lot more on some attempts....). but as fans we are so impatient, but we should be encouraging him for atleast trying to make things happen. gareth bale wasn't gareth bale over night. not saying townsend will ever come close to being a bale, but he has the traits you look for in a player to come good. all good players look like ball hogs and shot wasters before things click for them. i hope we give him a proper opportunity to let things click. maybe im going a bit overboard in my support for townsend, but it's only in response to the irrational hate for him.

at the very least, he's a tottenham youth that loves the club, is on cheap wages, and seems to be okay with playing a bench/support role. we can't hope for any better. selling him would be bonkers.

You know what it boring to me? One player shooting from 30 yards out everytime he gets the ball and is no where near the target while not looking for someone to pass it to that has a better shot. Townsend adds little to the team. He has no goals, no assists. All he does is run and shoot on sight. Look, I do not hate Townsend. In fact, I like him. I just realize that he adds very little to the team and in fact takes away from the team in some cases. There are some players that when they play is sometimes like playing with 10 men because they add very little to nothing and in some cases take away from the team. JD is one of them. Townsend is another.

Townsend will improve given time, which is something we do not have. Another loan to a lower level PL club may be good for him and us.

Much as I don't think our coaching has been up to much recently, I doubt he's being coached to be the Jermaine Defoe of wingers. I think like Defoe he is very good at the way he plays, but if someone manages to stifle that style of play then he's stuffed.

I know people don't like Lennon but I think there's a lot more nuance to his game than Townsend's. But I was hoping that the signings of players like Eriksen, Chadli and Lamela would mean that neither got much of a look in.

Sadly all of them, apart from Eriksen every now and again, they've all been a bit pap.
Then why is he a completely different player for england?

I think Townsends head is in turmoil with the World Cup.
At the start of the season he was getting all the hype as Englands new saviour and he has been trying to score wonder goals ever since.
Then he gets injured, tries to comeback too soon and has another setback.
He probably thinks he has dropped down the pecking order and is worried that his place in the squad for Brazil is in danger.
I think the lad is trying way too hard but if he gets to the World Cup and gets some games....it could be the making of him.

At times he can be frustrating, to say this is all he does though is just wrong. Off the top of my head I'd say he has played some of, if not the best, passes and through balls from a Spurs player this season.

I don't get how anyone can write soldado off in his first season. Madness.
Exactly.

Should ManU have written off Ronaldo in his first season.

Same for Suarez at Liverpool?

What about Modric and Bale for Spurs?

Such a bunch of impatient bastards support us now, who want instant success, look at results without batting an eye lid at the performances....

Madness, as you say.

As much as I love Kaboul, I can't see him as a long term option.

We need to sell Dawson on and look to buy the best possible CB we can get our hands on to partner Jan - if he doesn't do a runner that is. Vlad and Kaboul would be excellent backup/rotation options.

Walker is certainly first choice RB but we arguably need a young backup - maybe Fredericks as very similar player. Naughton can certainly go.

Rose will need to be sold IMO, along with Ekotto. The latter wont get back in the team and the former won't accept a backup role. We need to invest in a quality LB in summer and Fryers could be the backup option - potential there.

Defence is arguably where we need the biggest shakeup.

This would be our squad in the Summer after loans return and what I think we should do overall.....

GK:
Lloris - if he goes replace with Vorm, Begovic etc
Archer
Gomes - SELL
Friedel - Retire?

RB:
Walker
Fredericks
Naughton - SELL

CB:
Vertonghen - hope he stays
SIGN NEW CB
Chiriches
Kaboul
Dawson - SELL
Veljkovic

LB:
SIGN NEW LB
Fryers
Rose - SELL
Ekotto - SELL

RM:
Lamela
Lennon

CDM:
Sandro
Livermore/Capoue - Sell one, keep one.

CM:
Dembele
Paulinho
Bentaleb
Carroll

CAM:
Eriksen
Holtby
Sigurdsson - SELL
Falque
Ceballos

LM:
Chadli
Townsend

ST:
Adebayor
Soldado
SIGN NEW ST
Kane
Coulthirst

So in summary, new additions required at Left back, centre back and up front. That's it. 3 new players in and ship out some that may want to leave that we can afford to lose such as Livermore or Capoue, Siggy, Ekotto and try hard to cling out to Lloris and Jan.

All in all the squad is pretty well balanced and I like it a lot. It just needs tweeking.

Players I'd like us to move on.

Naughton- not good enough
Dawson- not good enough for level we want
Kaboul- injury prone and imo we can't wait
Lennon- needs a fresh start somewhere else
Ekotto
Falque

Wouldn't lose sleep.
Capoue- Livermore aint as bad people make out.
Vertonghen- if he wants out go. Imo replaceable
Sigurdsson 50/50

One of Holtby, Dembele, Paulinho, Capoue need to go, Carroll and Livermore also due to return, so many uninspiring central midfielders.

Siggy, Townsend, Lennon, Chadli all pretty average in terms of contribution, Rose is gash, Naughton is like a crap James Milner.

We only currently have one decent striker in Ade, Soldado hopefully will find his shooty-shoes.

We need more creativity from the middle and flanks, currently either big strong men or pace merchants with fuck all end product.

We only have half the ingredients but wonder why we serve up shite.

Don't think ridiculous wholesale changes of the playing staff will do us any good. Just get most of the average players out and bring in at least one CB, a quality LB and and a top left winger that can ideally operate as a striker as well.

Personally I'd rather see as few players as possible out of the door. Pretty much every player we have is good enough to either be first XI or a decent backup, the issue is coaching them to be better and moulding them into a better team. This is far preferable to getting rid of ten and getting a new ten in - then we'll just be left with the same problem of players taking time to settle, get used to each other etc. If we keep pretty much everyone we have already, most of them will reward us by being better next season.

I'd rather see us sign one or two absolute top quality players, get rid of one or two at the bottom of the pecking order and get a decent manager who can get them all playing well and as a team.
Pretty much how I see it. We need a striker (replace Defoe), LB first choice, and maybe a new CB depending on who leaves. At the beginning of this season most Spurs fans I know where excited, confident and really looking forward to this season. The players haven't gone sour; it's a confidence/ tactics thing that's messed it up. I hope a new manager will get the best out of what we have, sell 3/4, promote 2/3 from the ranks and bring in 2/3 specific to fill the about mentioned places. I'm looking forward to next season as I still believe ( forever an optimist when it comes to Spurs)

Can we sell some our "supporters" please? Some people do nothing but focus on the negatives and it's sickening.

On a more topical note...the first name that popped into my head was Gomes, then I realised we could be utilising him quite a bit next year!

Not a popular view on here but I wouldn't sell Naughton or Dawson I think both should be squad players next season.
walker is obviously 1st choice right back and Naughton can cover and play in E.L and league cup games.I seriously doubt we will be spending money on a back up when we have a decent option in Naughton.
Dawson again I hope will stay as 3rd or 4th choice centre back.
