Assist for one of our old academy boys Ryan Fredericks. He has serious pace and has had Villa's LB on toast so far

We are building one of the best teams in the world who are hitting their peak now. Longtime core players like Vertonghen, Lloris, Alderweireld, Lloris are in their late 20's or early 30's, so we are no longer trying to slowly build a squad that can be competitive years down the road. We should be more open to signing one player, even if they're older, who can come in and contribute right away, especially in CL.

Dries Mertens checks all the boxes. Based on all the photos I've seen, it looks like he's very close to Vertonghen and Dembele (especially Verts), so he wouldn't upset the team dynamic, and could settle quickly. He's a more experienced player with lots of CL games under his belt who can play across the front four positions, has lots of pace, is creative in the final third and is coming off his best season ever with 26 goals and 7 assists in Serie A/Champions League games this season. He has 1 year left on his Napoli contract, too, so if we could get him on a cut price deal like we did with Wanyama, he'd be the most impactful player we could realistically sign.

A lot of talk about Leipzig because of Keita. Emil Forsberg is on 8+17 in just the Bundesliga, not too shabby.

Mertens appears to be very happy at Napoli. Loves the way of life, he's been compared to Maradona and he's doing well. Even though he is the kind of player that would do very well for us in a lot of ways, his age will be an issue in the longevity stakes.

One player I would love to have us sign in front of anyone would be Saul Niguez. He's left footed, predominantly a CM but can cover AM, RW, CB and DM. Having him in the team would give us so much flexibility and he'd be a definite starter for us. He's skillful, has a good turn of pace, great vision , good passing and is also six foot tall so fairly big. However I'd be dreaming if I thought that we could feasibly sign him.

Will Kyle Walker-Peters be ready to be back up to Walker next season? I know Trippier has been awesome with his delivery from the right, but if KWP is first team bound then could be an idea to sell Trippier whilst his stock is high (probably get £12-15M for him). I know a lot will disagree with the thought of selling an understudy who has shown he is worthy of a run in the team, but with the stadium costs this is the type of sale that would make a lot of sense. All depends if KWP is ready or not, I know the club have high hopes for him.
I think KWP needs to show he's ready. I think it would be dangerous to speculate on it before he proves it given how much we tend to rotate wingbacks and the kind of position we'd be in if Walker sustained an injury and KWP wasn't ready to start every game.

That said obviously the key part there is Poch needs to give KWP a platform to show whether he's ready or not. Possibly this pre-season, even though pre-season games are a hard barometer to go off of.

A lot of players do comment on how good KWP looks in training though. I specifically remember Walker and Vertonghen bringing him up in interviews.

Anyone out of Napoli would cost a serious amount of money to purchase. I'd expect him to sign a new deal before expecting him to leave on the cheap.

Not to mention it's not like we'd be the only ones sniffing about.

Is anyone else astonished with our rise in football, surely in Europe no one has progressed as much as us in the last 5 years. Our squad is developing beautifully, i'm only just getting used to watching and us and having all this added pressure to win for an actual run at the title. Poch you glorious bastard.

Leipzig have.
Hoffenheim as well. Nearly got relegated before Nagelsmann took over.

Atletico Madrid's rise in the past 5 years is better than ours given they've won a title against massive odds and have been in two CL finals. They also won the Copa del Rey in 12/13 and the Supercopa in 14/15.

Monaco have been excellent this year, but their entire history is dotted with similar high highs and low lows.

Nice are unexpectedly good this season, though whether they can continue is a mystery.

So yeah, Atletico Madrid is a better rise than us imo.

I hope we don't stop doing the same sort of signings that got us into this position in the first place. Young hungry players, Sessegnon would fit us to a tee and should be our second priority after Zaha.

KWP can play on the left as well. I'd like to know how he'd compare there against Sessegnon.

Don't think this is a reliable source, but if true, it probably means we've given up on Zaha before the window's even opened:

http://turkish-football.com/tottenham-strike-12-5m-deal-with-galatasaray-for-bruma/

Tottenham strike £12.5m deal with Galatasaray for Bruma

Tottenham have reached an agreement with Galatasaray over the transfer of the Portuguese winger Bruma.

A source close to the Istanbul giants have revealed to Turkish-Football that informal talks have been held with Tottenham regarding Bruma.

Per the source the two parties have struck a deal in the region of £12.5 million.

However, a formal bid has yet to be made and Tottenham have not discussed personal terms with Bruma.

Edit: Galatasaray released a statement denying it:

I don't see it changing, Daniel Levy will make sure of that.
