He has been shocking the past 2 years but if we could get him back to his best he'd be well worth it

The problem with players like Forster and Butland is they used to be highly talented but they’ve both suffered serious injuries and haven’t been the same since.

Likewise with Lamela for us, yes he’s been playing reasonably well but he’s got a chronic injury and at a high risk of breaking again.

De ligt & Lenglet would be my top 2 choices. Although it makes me nervous getting that young at the position as far as De Ligt is concerned. We've seen Sanchez struggle in a couple of games against top opposition. Liverpool away, Man City last week and Juve ties stuck out to me. I think he's going to be incredible but I'd prefer a player like Lenglet I think as someone who has faced top opposition and seen all an opponent will throw at him. He feels like a Vertonghen clone when watching him play.

Either of these two would create an incredible partnership for the next 10 years (if we can keep the players long enough).
Watching Lenglet is like watching a watered down Jan, his reading of the game and the way he can pinch the ball of opposition feet makes me want him more than De Ligt tbh

Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but when is the last time a player from the championship jumped to a champions league club and succeeded? I know Dele did it but I don't know that I'm comfortable with spending a bunch of money on two players from the championship.

I think it’s a different trajectory if you are talking about young players.

Off the top of my head, recently Kanté and Mahrez effectively came out of Ligue2 (Kanté went up for one season with Caen before moving) and won the PL.

in the past there have been some players like Smalling, Jones, etc

Plenty of young players start life in the championship or smaller equivalent leagues (Dutch, Belgian etc) and end up at CL clubs

If Southampton go down Frasier Forster may be worth a punt to replace Vorm. 30 years old, Home Grown.

Would rather give Paulo Gazzaniga second choice and a youth GK as 3rd then get him in. His reflexes are awful, there is a reason he got replaced by McCarthy for Southampton, he cost them so many points.

cant work out if it will be very busy or very slow for us and whether the window shift will make a difference.

De Ligt is a class above imo. He's also 4 years younger, and seems to be a leader. No contest imo.
I really like the look of Lenglet though. But I don't see him wanting to sign for us to be a sub. He's a starter for a team that progressed further than us in the CL.

WARNING: All good with the players, but specifically 2 of our players wants strong assurances before commiting to a new contract, and Toby is not one of the players. Before people start wetting themselves, we have assured them. Poch has been given assurances in his contract relaxed talks.

My guess is Eriksen and Dembele. What is a string assurance exactly?

I've accepted to losing Toby, watching him play again yesterday hurt. He's just so damn steady back there. Not to mention seeing him launch a couple of long balls into the box made me think of the good ol days.

Can we as fans get some assurances that they will actually show up to games and put in a collective effort? Yesterday looked like a bunch of union workers about to enter strike.

It's difficult to be at peak performance every game. These games are often tougher under the lights too, it seems to add to the home crowd which can filter to the home team too. Brighton played well and we underperformed. It happens.

Anyway, Bale...would be the perfect signing. Thats a real statement of intent. Might mean sacrificing Lamela unfortunately, but if thats the case, so be it. I wouldn't want to lose Lucas so quickly. I think he will be very important next season.

Throw in the extra centre mid we need and ( wishful thinking I know ) convince Toby this is the place to be and we are laughing.

Bale would rip it up and would be huge for our growing profile. On this note I have a sneaky feeling Dele is going to come back from Russia with his reputation soaring.
