Going to pose a hypothetical question to you all and it may have already been discussed...If it has, I don't care. Discuss it some more.

IF Toby came out and said he wanted to leave, would not sign a new contract etc and City were interested so offered John Stones in exchange...

What would you do?

Would do that deal.

We need HG options and Stones has a lot of potential. We can almost afford to let him develop too, because as it stands our first choice CB pairing is Sanchez and Vertonghen.

The chances of this happening are next to zero, but let’s put it this way - I’d ask for Stones in exchange if City were in for Alderweireld on Football Manager

I wouldn't say its outside the realms of possibility. Stones is growing increasingly frustrated with a lack of games after laying the ground work for helping City to win the league.

If City are looking for a defender and Toby really wanted to go...I know it strengthens a rival, but...Stones is probably the best we could hope for in terms of a replacement.

I’m pretty sure Stones is currently on more than what we’re refusing to pay Toby - so unless he takes a massive wage cut then we may as well just give Toby the money and keep him lol

I don't see the logic in getting Stones even in the hypothetical where it could happen, he'd be overpriced and is no better than Sanchez imo. If Toby goes, I'd rather we went for Holgate, or someone like that, who'd be cheaper but still has a lot of top flight experience for a young player and room to improve.

Anyway, for me the defence isn't the important thing. We've not been quite as good in that regard without Walker and Toby but we're still one of the best defences in the league and the ingredients are there for it to improve without transfers.

The attack is generally very good but we've still fallen a well behind off Liverpool and City in that regard this season. As good as the comeback against Juve in the first leg was it still relied on Buffon making a mess of Eriksen's freekick and in the second leg, once Juve shut up shop, we found it very difficult to trouble them, as we have against several others who have done that to us this season.

If only there was someone who could consistently come up with the goods in those games, someone who could bring a quality threat from distance to punish sides that sat deep. Maybe they'd be out of favour at Real like VDV, they might have ridiculous ears like Lineker, a reputation for diving like Jurgen, a terrible grasp of Spanish like Beckham, an awful man bun like Bale, a silly Welsh accent like Bale, a... hold on I've got it! Moussa Sissoko, no wait Bale has all those things!

Well I can dream

Love to buy nick pope and stick him on ice for a couple of years. Won’t happen but would be great.

3 non home grown keepers is plain daft. I think Vorm is an absolutely top class 2nd keeper and I think we should keep him if at all possible. No idea why we signed Gazzaniga tbh. Seems a decent enough keeper but we need a home grown one in there somewhere. Pope would be perfect if we lost Vorm though.

Why would Stones trade city's bench for ours.

He'd only come if he was guaranteed first team football week in week out.

The hypothesis was him replacing Toby which we'd need to do anyway. I think he'd be good in a back 3 and I think we could develop a much more aggressive version of that setup if we brought in someone like Sessegnon.

He has 67 Serie A appearances, 12 champions league.

My point being since August 2016 he’s barely featured, circa 20 games for Napoli. He’s still a prospect for them as opposed to heavily involved.

Nah, IMO Stones is a relatively poor defender and a liability at times and already on high wages.

I would rather go for de Ligt, who I think is already a better defender and is also good on the ball (though not as good as Stones) and has a good partnership with Sanchez. If we get him before August, he would also count as HG in 3 years too.

I'd rather ask for Foden + £
