According to latest reports he has refused the extension which prompted my original question of can players do that. They can extend another year though ( without a release clause )

Depends on the clause - there are really 3 types of options: Club options - club can unilaterally extend; Player options - player can unilaterally extend, or Mutual Options - both parties must agree to extend.According to latest reports he has refused the extension which prompted my original question of can players do that.
Im sure it is a automatic extension by the clubAccording to latest reports he has refused the extension which prompted my original question of can players do that.

Agreed, but not so sure that's a swap I'd want to make. I understand that Martial has the potential to become so much more than Lamela but I think Martial and Son/Lucas are redundant. Lamela brings something different than the rest of them. I know the other three each have their differences but Lamela is a pass first type of player and I prefer that to another dribbler/scorer.Could only see Martial coming if Lamela went.
Why? They're not the same sort of player at all.Could only see Martial coming if Lamela went.

More then us? Ether way, if he only has a year left on his contract they will sell to the highest bidder.
You want to line up a defense of Aurier, Dier, Dembele and Sessegnon? And you want a new GK?We could accommodate all of them if we play say 4141 against the bus parkers. Wanyama, Moura Alli Eriksen Son, Kane with say new GK, Aurier, Dier, Dembele, Sessegnon? Lamela, Martial on the bench.
Thats about 1.5 defenders and a new GK. What could go wrong? You want to line up a defense of Aurier, Dier, Dembele and Sessegnon? And you want a new GK?

You put a questions mark after Sessegnon which I took to mean what you predicted as a potential lineup. You listed exactly 11 players and then put a punctuation then said Lamela and Martial on the bench. What? Where an Earth did I say that??? Read what I said again, all the aforementioned players are on the ‘bench’.

Yeah but this is the third time they have approached us, after the previous two I'm not sure we'd entertain them tbh
He's still sitting on the bench though. I just don't think it makes sense to bring him in.Sessegnon? as in if we sign him. For arguments sake - Lloris, back 4, Wanyama holding, 4 attacking midfielders in Moura, Alli, Eriksen, Son with Kane up top. There would then be sufficient space on the bench for Lamela and Martial.
