Did you make the Norwich match? And don't miss Stoke on December 28!

Sadly not! I'm living in Bristol at the moment and don't have a season ticket...one of the partners in my firm has one and I've been using his when he can't make it to games. Only Swansea on the first weekend and that first Europa League game (can't remember the name of the side) for me so far this season.

if we start failing to get teams out the group stages or a little further in the comp, eventually we will only get 3 places in the CL

That's not how it works is it? There's no way. Isn't it just the top 20% of the leagues?

And was I right about when 3pm matches started to drop?

i'm sure I heard the Sheik Citys failure to get out the groups, if it continued we would lose a place to Germany or something like that as I do believe they only have top 3 at moment.

I fully agree with OP. We all know that Europa games in mid week make Sunday games necessary- although I really think they should be played on Weds as well as CL games. Do you ever watch other teams play in the Europa?

But we are now playing on Sunday again at Everton, Shitty and Southampton unnecessarily. Not only that, but the Everton game is at lunchtime and the South Wales derby is 4pm which seems counter intuitive.

Not only that, but why are Sunday games which are not televised i.e. Hull and West Ham now on at 4pm? Why when trouble was almost encouraged for West Ham was that at 4pm giving fans a chance to get on the sauce? It's annoying because had they been at 3, we could catch the end of the Super Sunday match at the boozer. Also, even more ridiculously, the toon game in a couple of weeks is at noon. That makes no sense whatseover and is hugely unfair to their fans.

The powers that be just seem to have no common sense or consideration for fans. Hardly news I know, but I do think Thursday football should be scrapped. Europa league games should take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If Spurs are playing, I will watch them even if there is a juicy CL tie. But if someone other than Spurs are playing some minnow team from a Soviet protected renegade state in mid afternoon on ITV17 with fifth choice commentators, I will most probably pass.

20% of the leagues what? Get 4 places?

The three leagues with the highest coefficient get 4 places in the CL and 3 in the EL and the next 4 (I think) get 3 and 3. Coefficient points are awarded for winning or drawing games so if a league has teams that are winning a lot it's good for the clubs coefficient and the leagues coefficient which is an average of all the clubs points over 5 seasons.

The more wins we get the more money we earn from UEFA and the more coefficient points we pick up. It's important that we do well in the EL because those points could mean we get a favourable draw in the CL in the future.

I meant the clubs which finish in the top 20% of each league. That's how I thought it worked, although now that I think about it, that wouldn't work with leagues that cannot be divided into a fifth.

It's important that we do well in the EL because those points could mean we get a favourable draw in the CL in the future.

What do you mean favourable draw?

Getting more coefficient points from doing well in the EL would help to put us in a higher pot for the group stage drawings, meaning we'd not have to face bigger teams until the knock-out phases.

The Southampton match has really got my blood boiling. I've just checked out the the Saturday matchday schedule on the 21st December and would you believe it, for no apparent reason, Sky do not have a 17.30 slot. They do, however, have their usual sunday slot, which is f*cking us. This one cannot be explained using the reasoning that another club was preferred by them for Saturday broadcasting as they haven't got a game on. And what I have to say next just adds absolute insult to painful injury: THIS IS THE FIRST ROUND NOT TO HAVE A 17.30 SATURDAY GAME! HOW UTTERLY ANNOYING. What is stopping them RIGHT THIS SECOND moving us to Saturday at 17.30? The answer simply has to be, nothing. This is the 17.30 mystery. What on earth happened to it? Has the 17.30 exclusion ever happened before?

Check out the ridiculous 21-23 December schedule: (complete with a stupid random monday game too)

Chris, i'm going to guess and you're going to argue against it but here goes.........It could be that they are only allowed a certain number of games on a Saturday, or at 17.30, or only a certain amount of games over the Christmas period, or something like that. Thats would be where my money is but I know nothing, i'm just a guesser.........Failing that then it's blatantly obvious Sky's game scheduling geek is on SC and is doing it to drive you insane, just for giggles.

If I were you i'd send an e-mail to Sky and find out how the games are chosen and how the dates and times of KO's are dictated. You might get a reply and it might save you a lot of angst.

Could the stupid amount of Sunday fixtures be contributing to the poor atmosphere? People hungover from Saturday maybe? Less people having a drink because of work the next day?

For instance, if your at a party and only 20% of the people are drinking and there's a party going on next door where 80% of the people are drinking, which party would you rather be at or expect the best atmosphere to be?

Well that would at least explain it but it wouldn't excuse it. Firstly it makes no sense. How anal would the rules have to be to limit their 17.30 games. What possible reason could there be. Secondly, whatever anal rules there might be, it should be up to the premier league to never allow this sort of thing to happen, and to allow its member clubs to be able to play on the proper traditional footballing day whenever possible whilst still returning TV revenue. Is it a commercial reason? Most things are, and I'm only having a stab in the dark here, but it just seems that us playing on Saturday 21st shouldn't make the premier league loose out on too many millions of pounds.

That depends on how much more desirable the Sunday 4PM advertising slot is v the Sat 17.30 one. There may also be a big audience grabber on another channel on the 21st that clashes with the time (the Strictly final perhaps? I have no idea!) and they're sceduling around it.

I would say that they only have the rights to a limited number of games and they decided that week to only have two games rather than the usual 3

And it's precisely this kind of thing that the club and the Premier League should not allow happen as in make use of the opportunity to play at 17.30 on a saturday (we know there will be no Europa at this time) and direct Sky to select another week to skip the slot. If rights limitation is the reason. I mean it is just SUCH a wasted opportunity, you'd all have to agree with me.

I would like to agree, but on a selfish note if the game was played on a Saturday night just before Xmas on the box I might miss it due to work.

I honestly thought from our post this morning that this thread would of died a death

Sunday also destroys asia support. I live in Hong Kong and rise at 6 on Mondays so I cannot watch spurs for Sunday afternoon uk starts

At least get us some early kickoffs. I was so excited for Chelsea knowing i would get to watch. It was great

Another reason to loathe the Europa league
