I'm a fan of Dembele and Hoilett. Think Jarvis would do well at a big side too. Quality back up. We coud do a lot worse than Shane Long for £6m rather than someone like Amuari.

i like shane long but wba are hardly going to sell him for £6m when that's what they signed him for.

Dembele would be superb, VDV-esque, right?

Would bolster our wing choices if Kranjcar/Pienaar went too, and can be a striker. Would be a superb signing imo.

Not sure these are the sort of players we should be looking at at all.

These are the type of journeyman players we signed through the dark days. Something that, bar the odd Pienaar, we've moved on from

Hummels is about the only player in this thread who'd get near our first team. The majority would just bloat our squad and not be as good as the likes of Krancjar or Bassong.

I agree with this.

We need players that will come either come straight into the first team or will at least be pushing for a first team place. Most names in this thread will just sit on the bench and get disillusioned.

The only players I'd be looking to sign would be:

1) Cover for Ade (Pav replacement)
2) A wide right forward/competition for Lennon (Defoe and Gio replacement)

3) A long-term replacement for Friedel (Gomes replacement)
4) A long-term replacement for Gallas/King (Bassong replacement)

1 and 2 are the priorities. 3 and 4 can wait till the summer (along with getting Ade on a permanent).

1 and 2 aren't necessarily first team players - they'll maybe be 20-24 year old up-and-comers. Leandro and Remy would be my preferences.

How about a cheeky 12m bid for AOC at the scum who is undoubtedly and worryingly the most talented young footballer in this country by a mile

...or we can swap him with Bostock!!

Surely we need cover for BAE

God forbid he gets injured. We don't want to be playing Bale left back and Rose is nowhere near good enough against any sort of decent opposition

Agbonlahor is a bit one dimensional, perhaps if he wasn't being coached by Mccleish then someone could get more out of him.

McCarthy is a good shout but there's no room for him and his playing style. If we were to sign another CM I'd rather they be a box to box type.

IMO, the one position we need to sort out is your (1) - cover for Ade. Unfortunately there are not too many top class strikers around, so we may need to also look at the alternative of a top player who could play as a false no 9 ala Barca (the obvious ones being Kaka or Neymar, although we will need to look at other less prestigeous players). Whoever we get needs to be a good player to guard against Spurs not being able to sort out Ade's permanant move in the Summer.

This acquisition would allow Dos Santos and one of Pav or Defoe to move on.

Not sure that Leandro can be regarded as a non First Team player - his transfer fee is likely to be £20m+ - and I cannot see him being always on the bench.

IMO it is not essential to get a wide right forward now - we have Falque, Townsend (on a new 5 year deal) plus Fredericks (a speedy right winger, although played in Europa League as RB) coming through plus the options of Pienaar, Van der Vaart and Bale (putting Modric or Krancjar in his place) Against Norwich HR changed formation, in effect bringing in Sandro to replace Lennon, so possibly expect more surprises like this.

BAE is currently being covered by Rose, Bassong and Gallas. If Naughton is brought into the squad next season, he could also cover LB and RB.

CB is an interesting position with Kaboul and Dawson likely to be there next season with Caulker also being there. King and Gallas look to be good for this season, although not for every game, and will be assessed in the summer to decide whether they will play next season - I expect at least one or both will be here. If Bassong leaves, it will be a moot point as to whether he is replaced now given the few games available to be played and the newcomer would be CB no 5.

A new goalkeeper is more likely to be a summer purchase - I assume Gomes will see out the remainder of his contract and leave in the Summer.

Having said this, Levy will take advantage of any opportunistic situations to enhance the squad.....and expect a couple of youngsters as ones for the future to come in.

Wasn't Bassong rubbish at LB for Newcastle, before doing well in the center?

If we do bring in a LB though, I guess that's it for Danny. We may as well buy another youngster with more potential of challenging BAE for first-team action.

As for a really big surprise signing - nothing would make me happier than Reus, but that's never going to happen.

If we can't get him (or Tevez, or Cavani, or Llorente) that doesn't mean we should give up and buy nothing, though. Even Jordan Rhodes would be better than Pav in this form. Hell, anyone who works hard and can hold up the ball for Bale/VdV would be more useful than Pav.

Are you saying we might have a chance of signing those playerEek

If so, out of that list I would want Leandro and Hazard

Reus is going to dortmund or bayern, more likely dortmund as recently it was revealed he wanted to go back
