Zidane didn't really come good until he was 23-24.

I'd say the jury's still out on Taarabt.

people who say taarabt has been shit in the reserves are being a bit harsh. most games he played in he either got a goal or assist or created plenty of openings for others. this is the same guy that drew applause from the birmingham fans after taking on half the team and setting up pekhart for a tap in.

and those who say just because its the resserves he should be outstanding all the time is crap. ive seen seasoned internationals play in the reserves and not outshine the 16 year old next to them

Wow, one bad "substitute performance"???

What happened his debut Vs. West Ham? He save us from the jaws of a draw and won us the game. Sure Berby had to convert, but still.

Watch him on YT and you'll see how gifted he is. Don't deny
how rare that is. To Come to a new country at 17 and change a game away from home, on his debut, in the "hardest league in the world". He is gifted.

And I blame management for not unravelling this gem.

And yes, YT, for once, does provide a 100% accurate account, because it documents pretty much all his playing time, from the St Patricks game to the Newcash game. - Which is a sign of something - It shows how little we've actually played him - and you guys wanna axe him?

The reason why he's so contreversial is everyone knows he has talent, but no one has seen enough of him.

Forget the reserves, a loan spell with WBA or any other low league team is all he needs. You'll see.

Yea I took your advice

everything in this video is laughable and shows why he should be nowhere near our first team. He offers nothing to the 'team' and only plays for himself. Had someone like Bent ran around the pitch doing those things, he'd be rinsed. The guy wasted so much posession.

We're a, lucky it was derby & b, lucky we were 4-0 up already.

I don't want to axe him. I just don't want him anywhere near the first team untill he learns that it's a team game.

Sorry, but did you watch the entire video??

Let me start by saying, this is video footage from ONE game only, against Derby and he was brought in something like the 70th minute, right?

Now, aside from those first couple off passes, he did a lot of bloody good in that 20 minutes he was on. Amazing skill, killer runs and as the video clips progresses, he started to put in some decent balls too! Not to mention, he tracked back a lot!

He was on for 20 minutes for petes sake. No one else in our squad can do what he can. Simple. If that is the worst vid you could get of him, imagine what his best is like... Don't make me search...

That's a bit strong. There's some great skill, especially later on in the video.

He does especially well at 2:49 to control the ball, turn, and out-muscle the Derby player.

It's clearly not a virtuoso team performance, but there's certainly signs of promise there.

So how would you explain the fact that Clive has subbbed him in virtually every game?

Magical moments, awful quarters of an hour?

Try this, all in one game, St Patricks, but still:

Watch this and tell me he can't pass or shoot.

Havnt seen any of the matches, but have understood from reports that he has shown a lot of talent, but not much tactical skills for the reserves....

He played 2 good passes there!! yet about 4 times he tried to beat the whole team and either ran into trouble OR shot wide/over when a simple pass would've been a better option.

Like I said in my very first post, he has bags of talent, but he's nowhere near ready to be anywhere near the first team, he's an awful team player.

What do you mean nobody else can do what he does? beat the same guy three times then shoot over? beat a man three times then put the ball out of play?

The guy is nowhere near the level say, lennon was at his age.

The skill is there, and he's clearly got the potential to trouble far better defenders than those at St. Pat's and Derby. No-one's disputing that for a moment. What is very much in question is his discipline and ability/willingness to be a team player.

well quite. he has individual flair, but we can't afford to have luxuries.

It amazes me that anyone can watch his highlights against St Pats and not give the boy credit. i dont think its fair to compare him to lennon, lennon beats players with his pace, very rarely does he out-jinx them or beat them with a skill, Taarabt however isnt as fast but has great feed, and can definately offer something that no one else in the team can. His passing and vision will improve in time, hes not even 19 yet, it will be a real shame if he were to leave.

Do you think Fergie said that when he first bought Ronaldo? Look at him now. Players of that mould need time to harness their ability and improve other areas of their game, something i feel Taarabt will do

I agree it'd be a shame if he leaves, but I won't cry over it. I personally don't think he'll make it for a top club, because his lack of team play will continue to hold him back.

Ronaldo was different. Sure his final ball was lacking (on a par with Nani now) but he had shone for Sporting (so much so that United players encouraged Fergie to buy him based on a game against him) for what he didn't have in a final ball all the time he still created plenty and got stuck in.

Ronaldo also had around 30 appearences for Sporting including playing in the CL. Taarabt can't even put in a good performance consistently in the reserves.

You're talking as if I'm not saying keep him, or nurture him, quite the opposite infact but he's nowhere near a first team player and his performances against Derby and Newcastle were embarrasing.

Please do not compare the situation to Ronaldo's, it's totally different.

Bottom line is, Ramos and Gus don't think he's remotely ready, except for cameos in games in which there's nothing to lose. In contrast, they're more than happy to give O'Hara a whirl. That, surely, says it all. Jol clearly didn't think he was up to it, either.

Missed opportunity? More a missed bullet.

But thats my point.

He may well not be ready (although, i think he is), but one day he will be. And we need to make sure that when that day comes, its in a Spurs shirt (or at the least, he is loaned out somewhere, but still a spurs player).

That clip shows skill, beating players, wicked through-balls, shots and great runs.

The thing is, we won't know how good he really is OR if he is ready or not unless the guy gets a chance to prove it!

The lad clearly has bags of skill but he dwells on the ball far too long for Ramos' game plan/ Players continually make good runs around him but he just goes it alone. Would love to see him be a bit more mature.
