I saw Ndombele play a few times for Lyon last season and he was terrific, showing excellent potential. Had a cracking game vs PSG too.

Just for context too, here are his dispossession stats and bad control per game stats against Winks and Dembele as well as some other CMs across Europe:

Ndombele
Dispossessed: 1.5
Bad Control: 1.8

Dembele
Dispossessed: 1.2
Bad Control: 0.9

Winks
Dispossessed: 0.6
Bad Control: 1.1

Pogba
Dispossessed: 1.5
Bad Control: 2.1

Fred
Dispossessed: 1.9
Bad Control: 2.3

Savic
Dispossessed: 2.4
Bad Control: 3.5

He likes to drive forward and take players out by either going past them or playing a pass through the lines and yes he will lose the ball at times but no worse than some of the players listed above. He also has the benefit of being just 21 years old, younger than the others on this list.

So I've also done some quick research.

50 Apps for Lyon in all comps. 1 goal, 7 assists.

On loan from Amiens (Ligue 2 side), where he has a contract that runs til 2020.

As mentioned previously by many, Lyon do have an 8 million euro option to buy him but it's not clear whether this can be scuppered by a higher offer from another team (like we did to Saints with Toby).

It would be fair to assume though that if he's being linked with likes of us, Utd and Juve that this is possible and that whilst Lyon do have the option, it wouldn't be one that prevents other teams from bidding, more that if nobody else bids then they can sign him at an agreed fee.

You'd like to think he could be had for less than 20m, assuming a bid war doesn't kick off.

Whether this guy is the right signing for us is open to question. A little raw but talented nonetheless.

We do absolutely need one or two CM signings this summer. To be honest, although it's no time to panic I'm slightly concerned that we seem to be linked with attacking players all the time but CM links are few and far between.

A little clip of his performance vs PSG for those who may be interested:

There's a lot to like. Looks perfectly comfortable up against players like Rabiot who many Spurs fans would like us to sign so that can't be a bad sign.

Shows good speed, very good control and looks to pass forward. If it's going to be too expensive to go for SMS or Kovacic then I'd be happy to take a flier on this kid.

A better video against PSG:

He is 21 years old and that's against the best team in France, one of the best in Europe. He has all the skills for Poch to mould.

There's an inherent risk in any signing. Players who have looked nailed on certainties have turned out to be duds, and conversely, players like Kante have proved themselves right off the bat. N'Dombele has a lot of attributes that cannot be coached, as in, he's big and strong, has good balance and upper body strength, has shown that he can pick a pass and seems prepared to get stuck in. He may well need to mature a bit and improve his decision making but overall he looks like a risk worth taking if we need a left sided CM.

Eh, it's not just 3/4 though; I think it's been 50/50 which is still fine.

Njie
Nkoudou
Sissoko
Janssen
Llorente
Fazio
Chiriches
Yedlin
Soldado
Aurier

Dunno where to put them:
Chadli
Adebayor

Compare that to:
(Good)
Davies (for the most part)
Wanyama (amazing last season at least)
Trips (for the most part)
Lamela (when he gets a run at it but nothing that has compared to his hype at Roma yet)
Vorm

Great:
Toby
Eriksen
Son
Dele
Lucas (when he's actually played)
Sanchez
Hugo
Jan
Dembele

Sure we've signed some absolute gods within that period but the club's scouting clearly isn't amazing. It's very hit and miss imo.

I think there are some questinable ones in your list of failures: Aurier (hardly had time to get going), Llorente (has had few opprtunities, is a back-up, played some important roles for us still) and Fazio (who was fairly solid at times)
Plus you aren't really factoring in the cost of these players - as a few of them were 'cheap punts', with a possibility they might be great...
Sissoko and Soldado are the only two who we've spent some decent wedge on and haven't quite worked out. Janssen seemed to be cheaper - but again, its very difficult to judge a back-up striker as not every player is going to be Solskjaer off the bench...

Also, Chadders - how are you unsure? He was cheap, played reasonably well and sold on for a profit....?!

But that all means nothing if we’ve turned the player’s head, clause is meaningless if he won’t sign the contract.

Why move on ? There still seems to be a lot of confusion about this.

The only advantage that the clause gives Lyon is that they can buy the player for a lower pre determined fee. The player still has to agree to go there and sign a contract with the club. Essentially this is no different to making an approach for any other player from our point of view.

Perhaps he turned down PSG because he wants to play in the Prem ? It’s possible. It’s also possible that he turned them down because he’s about to sign said contract with Lyon but we also don’t know that for sure.

We’d be able to blast Lyons wages out of the water if we made an offer so it’s far frm over until we hear that he signs on the dotted line with Lyon

And lot of people in here who are asking questions that have already been answered and/or making claims which have already been shown to be wrong.

What you say is not how loan-with-option-to-buy works. Ndombele has already signed a contract with Lyon, it becomes active when they pull the option to buy. Otherwise there would be no point in the whole loan-with-option-to-buy construct.

Looks great in a YouTube video but also looks like he's never got control of the ball. Very erratic but seems effective. Those likening him to Dembele are wide of the mark in my opinion. Dembele always has total control.

Youth coaches at Amiens in awe of him. Speak of his ability to break through the lines both ball at feet and with passes (a stat in which he is the best bar none in Europe). Breakthrough star of ligue 1.

If Sessegnon is worth 50* then this guy is worth 80/90.

* he’s not

Standard YouTube video made better by a bit of jungle

nah don't want him, he doesn't let anyone have the ball till he passes it. how boring the ratings thread would be with BC moaning he passes it too quickly, or does too many fancy flicks:whistle:

Wasn't aware of the kid.

But having watched that 2 min YouTube video, I think I'd be pretty comfortable in slapping down £20m ish.
