I'll be disappointed if Lennon starts. I know AVB didn't use him on Thursday, most likely because he wanted to rest him, but I can't see what he's done to merit a first team spot. He has his uses but he's pretty poor on the left. He can't adapt to being on the opposite side as well as Townsend can, and he certainly won't be getting a run on the right due to Townsend's form and Lamela's recent display.

To be honest, I think Sigurdsson has been better, and more likely to score/assist, than Lennon on the left hand side. If AVB is insistent on starting with Andros on the right then I'd like to see him play Lamela in the centre with either Siggy or Eriksen on the left.

Really like that side actually.

Won't happen tough. Townsend will be back, and I reckon Holtby will too. Maybe even fucking Lenon. Trouble is the rotation is on the wrong cycle at the moment, with Kaboul, Lamela, Sig, Capoue etc all having played thursday, they are on the wrong cycle. Understand why some of them are but still...

i dont want to see paulinho in the team to be honest. This is what i'd love to see:-

lloris
walker, chiriches, dawson, verts
sandro, holtby
lamela, eriksen, siggy
soldado

holtby can play the box to box role.

or if he insists on townsend, then stick lamela down the middle and shift eriksen to the left at the expense of siggy.

Just for a second I thought you had Soldado in goal and Lloris up front.

Funky :chicken: !!!
Tbh I've never understood why people do it going down...it makes more sense to me to do it with the keeper at the bottom and the striker at the top, that way when you say left back for instance, it's actually the man on the left.

Where to begin with this?

Lamela isn't a striker, so it wouldn't really be a 4-4-2, more of a 4-4-1-1 and considering AVB's use of midfielders, wouldn't be just continue using a 4-2-3-1 instead?

Also, why would be play Dembele out wide? Which is what I'm assuming you're doing since you have him with Townsend. Dembele can play out wide, but it's a real waste considering he isn't very fast and is obviously a central midfielder. At that point, we'd play somebody else out there like Lennon or Sigurdsson. If anything, going off of those 11, Holtby would be the one out there.

What this formation does is either take away our midfield presence by creating a disconnect between Sandro/Holtby and Lamela, considering Lamela is not a very physical player and wouldn't likely come into the midfield. The other, and more likely, result would be that it gives us absolutely no depth. Dembele would constantly be coming back into the middle off of the field, with Townsend being an inverted winger and Lamela cutting as well. It would create a crowded space from the top of their box and midfield, because the defense could just sit in without us getting wide and defend comfortably. Also, Soldado would be isolated and having to work in a crowded penalty area with little to no service.

Well for starters lamela is'nt an out & out striker but he could be a 2nd striker & has played the role b4, the whole idea is that Soldado does'nt become isolated & partnership could build ala beardsley Rush if u like would b best comparison & it only congests midfield if managers tactics allow it.
Likewise Dembele on left he's played there b4 & can take on a player & beat him & if he's told to hug the touchline it would create room for Holtby.
What were missing is players committing to take players on in final 3rd Dembele, townsend & lamela can do that & give us some balance, tactics dictate wether it becomes congested.

I can't believe anybody would leave Townsend out, in a number of our games he's been the only one who's looked like making something happen. Also got to fancy him against Santon, this is a back 4 that we can expose!

AVB, you are getting on my fucking nerves (if true)

I woke up with a cold fear that Andre wants to counter the attacking instincts of Townsend with the negative useless instincts of Lennon and can't risk starting Lamela and Townsend together...

Aaaargh fuck it all!

Lennon has almost become a defensive midfielder, that article on the front page about learning to take more risks.. that means you AVB, take a risk and put Lennon on the transfer list..

Another wtf moment from the avb tactical game plan if true

I really think were missing a trick not playing Lamela left and Townsend right, Townsend has a decent delivery and will hopefully put in a few low crosses for Soldado, can pretty much guarantee both Newcastle full backs won't get forward much too.
