Well the Times, and Gary Jacob I think, seem to be of the opinion that it will be Holtby behind Defoe. Sandro and Pailinho in the centre, flanked by Lennon and Townsend.

Its something AVB hasn't tried yet has he? The one League game Defoe started was West Ham, and Eriksen played in behind him. Maybe he's trying to replicate the good linkup we've seen in the Cup games (Defoe and Holtby)

If he goes with that ----------------------Defoe----------------
----------------------Lennon-------------Holtby----------Townsend

He'll continue to have a mare and will get himself sacked.

I see him more so as a playmaker, dictating from deep. I really think he could do for us what Modric did. He just needs a run of games. AVB seems to like him hokey cokeying in and out of the team as a number ten even though Holtby himself has said he see's himself as more of a DCM and as such he cant build any momentum with regards to form.

Modric could carry the ball forward and help defensively, he had very few limitations as a midfielder. I'm not sure if Holtby is mentally disciplined enough, he seems a bit too erratic and would need to learn to calm down and be more efficient with his touches/passes. I think he's more suited to playing as part of a midfield 3 than an attacking mid though.

If you look at teams who play a deep lying playmaker, like Juve with Pirlo (albeit he is lightyears ahead of our Lewis), they tend to have 2 midfielders that will do all the hard work to allow that playmaker the time and space he needs. Using the Juve example - 2 out of Marchisio, Pogba and Vidal will be the workers playing alongside Pirlo. Vidal tends to be more of the defensive mid type getting back more and Marchisio/Pogba will be more of an attacking mid, but nonetheless the 2 players will be the engine of the machine and neither are afraid to go forward nor shirk their defensive duties. I've seen Holtby do this role well for Germany U21 as part of a midfield 3 and I think he could do it well for us, but we'd have to pull him further back from this attacking midfield role and the formation would need to be tweaked to more of a 4-3-3 where the wingers are pushed forward to support the striker.

Lamela. Townsend
Siggy
Soldado
Dunno just a thought a few people saying holtby could be used as a dcm which I agree this would allow him to link up the play from deeper. Also think Townsend on left will suit better for crosses but ultimately our tempo needs to increase hugely because against Newcastle in the second half we showed urgency and if it weren't for a top class performance from krul we could of had a couple. Soldado lacks service and confidence but we need to get behind him and the team from the off. either way Im Tottenham till the end. COYS

I know it won't happen but if it were up to me I'd have a 4-2-2-2 of

Lloris
Walker Kaboul Chiriches Vertonghen
Sandro Dembele
Lamela Townsend
Adebayor
Soldado

A team that's solid in defence and deadly on the counter.

No, just no.

We want to attack at home and your formation just steams of desperation as you are still including the players that are the crux of some of problems, IMHO.

Lennon is all pace with very little final product.

Dembele is great with running with the ball, but as highlighted on match of the day and on so many other occasions, he just doesn't know when to release the ball.

Townsend, the worst decision makes I have seen, but then he rarely play out on the left where he should be playing, but I think he still needs to learn his game (the team game and not self personal glory).

And resorting to a 4-4-1-1 with a striker that only scored 4 goals in the league all last season, over Soldado who's only real major problem is that those player around have been as thick shit.... not mention that the inverting wingers and that we have as much width as a pencil.

We want our strongest team out, and keep playing them until they get used to each other.

Chadli ---------- Soldado ---------- Lamela

Holtby ---------- Capoue
Sandro

Verts ----- Vlad ----- Kaboul ----- Walker

Lloris

Chadli - He sticks stay out on the left and creates width for us, would pick Townsend, but worried about his decision making for now.

Soldado - because he is a great striker, he just needs the right supply. Not going to score much on scraps.

Lamela - Played on the right for Roma, very attacking minded, intelligent and quick feet, a nice foil for Soldado on the right.

Holtby, because Eriksen is injured.

Capoue - Strong, defensive and also very attacking minded. Can play the ball forward and has shown he can link up play very well, when he has played.

Sandro - The beasts sits in front of Vlad and Kaboom giving the some ferocious protection and when he wins the ball just simply pass it to one of the more attacking and creative minded players.

Verts - Who else have go there for now. Hurry back Rose, yes you are not the best, but you are all we have got for now.

Walker - Same as verts and he really is not that bad at all, he just needs to improve his final ball.

Lloris - Every goal keeper has a day of cluster fucks, Tottenhams no'1 all day long and for years to come.

Tactics - Hunt in packs off the ball, whilst on the ball, fast attack play down the right, middle and centre... mix the play up and play the ball in to channels for the players to run onto FFS. Movement...

I don;t care if we lose against manure as long as we attack them and those players can walk off that pitch with heads held high.

Seen little evidence thus far of soldado being a great striker, while I agree his supply has been poor he has to do more to create space for himself and make some sort of impact on the game.
When defoe plays no one mentions bad supply or service, its " defoe is shit"

Thats because when Defoe plays and comes back to get the ball he usually loses it and his touches is worse than Soldados

Soldado's link up play is infinitely better than Defoe's. Too often the ball is played up to Defoe and it ends up further away from him than it was originally played from.

I like this set-up. Don't mind if it's Chadli for Lennon, but regular wingers to keep them stretched, and Dembele and Lamela going through the centre to link up with Soldado. United are weak in the centre; when their full-backs are stretched and occupied, the middle's exposed, and that's the way to exploit them.

Defoe, Dembele and Townsend are very much alike.
They hog the ball, pass and move is something that fails to register in there thought process.
The less i see of them the better quite frankly.
If they were sold, i wouldnt be too disappointed.
Thats just my opinion of course.
