VDV will only get match fitness by playing matches. Defoe and he have yet to have any chance together barring half an hour v Villa (where it looked promising) so I'd like to see it given another go. Modric, Bale and Lennon in their best and most effective positions. Sorted!​

Thank god you actually get it BBLG. One time we got Defoe and VDV together and they looked to link really well before JD got wrongly sent off.

Defoe is coming off the back of scoring 2 superb goals so we need to ride that wave especially when we're at home. Pav is fine and all and if VDV isn't fit then PAV should start in a 4-4-2.

Most importantly though we need Bale back on the left, Lennon terrorising Bridge down the right, Sandro kicked ass in CM and Modric hopefully pulling the strings in the middle.

That midfield can only get better with Huddlestone in it and right now I'd go with Sandro anyway.

I think he might play Bale at LB with Pienaar tucking in ahead of him.

I'd be happy to see it tried too.

Away from home it's about finding a balance between defensive solidity and having enough flair to go and score at the other end.

Although there is a lack of height up front, which could make us a little predictable. There might be a case for going 4-4-2 if VDV is not 100% because I think we need him back to his best asap. We cannot afford another niggling injury from him because he has a class in the final third that we have otherwise lacked this season.

I'm not sure if I'd suggest Defoe as the lone striker, but I don't see "the lack of height" as a necessary problem either.

You are right Barca don't have height but they do have Pedro-Messi-Villa....we don't. They are also supplied by Iniesta and Xavi which again we don't have. If we had the ability to work and keep the ball like Barca i'd agree with you however i agree with the other poster who feels we will be a little short up front. If it isn't working to feet what do we do? We will have to change striker or formation. Personally i don't really rate Defoe too much so not too fussed if he doesn't make the XI. More importantly we need Sandro to do a job on Scott Parker. Keep him quiet and it will be one way traffic.

I don't think Defoe is ideal as a lone striker. I prefaced my reply by stating just that. I just don't agree with the being "predictable" part.

What is exactly predictable? That you'll be playing on the ground? That hardly gives too much away.

Spurs are not Barca, but they can still be a possession side.
