As you can probably tell, I really don't care about the league cup.

It’s after that we have a problem though. We’ve got 4 games (including Everton) in 9 days.

True but we can get to a semi final and knock out our rivals. Really do think Emery will go full strength. Plus it's not often we win at their place. After eveton hopefully we have some of our injured players back

I think people like you are scared we would lose to a weakened arsenal side when we are full strength. The next CL game is 2 months away so no need to rest for that. We just need to win this shitty cup so I want to go close to full strength as possible. Our next league game is Sunday

I can't see Poch going full strength. He always prioritizes the Premier league over the League cup. Admittedly it's against the scum and it would be lovely to get through and go on and win it but history suggests we'll see a slightly weakened team on Wednesday.

Having said that, it would be difficult to go "full strength" when we have so many injuries!

I can assure you that I'm not remotely scared of our full strength side losing to a weakened Arsenal team but I can see why you might think that based on what I wrote.

Truthfully, I don't rate Arsenal at all this season. Quite frankly I have little interest in what they're doing whereas I think our fans waste a lot of time and energy still hating on them. I prefer to focus on what we're doing and frankly we have more important things to be focusing on than the frickin League Cup.

I think there's this idea that the media will stop criticising Poch for not winning something if we just went and won a League cup but I don't believe for 1 second that will happen. We'd win it and Spurs fans will say "give Poch some credit now then?" and the response from roval fans and the media will be "It's only the league cup".

IMO Arsenal don't matter anymore. We are moving past them in every respect as a club and the trophies will come. Their reaction to beating us in the league said everything to me about how small time they've become and the fact that they are still 5 points behind us so quickly afterwards is testament to that.

Couldn't agree more. Great post.

After I wrote that I thought I was harsh! Sounded bad anyway. We are 3 teams away from winning something. Surely we are all sick to death with the "but what have they won". Winning this caraboa could be a catalyst

No worries at all, I knew what you meant by your post and could see how you got there.

I don't disagree by any means but equally I want us to be careful to not go all in on something like the league cup at the possible expense of other comps or player fitness.

Ulitmately it's Poch that has to find the right balance between putting out a competitive team whilst also not gassing out our best players. I'm glad it's him making those decisions and not me.

I wouldn't worry about the jibes about lack of silverware. There will always be jibes about something...

I agree that getting a cup in the cabinet could provide the catalyst though. It really feels like winning something/anything of value would really open the gates for this team, mentally.

Don't think this one is going to go well - no matter who they put out they'll inject themselves with the "We Hate Spurs" drug before the game, make it into a cup final, and their fans will use it as one of their 3 times they make noise each season.

Also Emery seems to get it so they will go strong.

Yes it may only be the league cup, but the reality is that it's also the only trophy we've won (twice) since 1991... Whilst I'm not expecting the strongest possible XI, a part of me believes that Poch will field a strong'ish team that he perhaps wouldn't have in previous seasons. My guess is:

----------------------Gazza------------------

KWP--------Toby------Foyth----Davies

--------------Sissoko---Winks------------

Son---------------Eriksen------Lamela

----------------------Kane-------------------

Anyone know how long away fans are held back?

Will they let you out straight away if you leave on 85 minutes?

It's set up fairly nicely for us to be able to rotate. I imagine that this is what Poch will go with:

Arsenal: Rotated side
Everton: Strongest team available
Bournemouth: Rotated side
Wolves: Strongest team available
Cardiff: Rotated side

Playing a weakened team against Arsenal won't be popular, but they're not going to play their strongest team either. The league fixtures fall really nicely for us to be able to rotate. Everton and Wolves are probably the most talented teams in the league outside of the top six so we will need to be at our best, but Cardiff are shit and Bournemouth play wide open football so we should be able to get away with rotation just fine for those two.

Honestly I'd be very surprised if both Poch and Emery don't go full strength for this (bar keepers). Once it gets to the latter stages, particularly against rivals, that tends to be what happens; Pochettino also rested Winks, Son and Eriksen specifically for this match. I'd be pretty frustrated if we didn't pick our best available side.

I think the fact that they will go pretty full strength will mean we will have to. If not I can see us losing this 3 1 or something equally painful. It’s so frustrating we drew them and especially away.

It's this one or Champions League, whichever it is we're winning a trophy this decade and that's for damned certain. Skippy, Gazzaniga, and Sissoko put on a masterclass to shred the Arse away 4-1. The Shushening. Reality check. We're a better team then they are and it shows Wednesday.
