I said in the first post too mate. I think we could really benefit from his work rate.

His workrate would be fantastic in this match, however I would be concerned that he hasn't played a single league match this season. Not sure if he would be up to such a game.

People aren't saying Pienaar because he's been rubbish for us, and this is a big game.

4-2-3-1 or a 3-2-4-1 or 3-5-2 variant for me.

Yea I agree, it's a possible problem. Still, people have called for Townsend and I think he's just as much of a risk if not more so, for different reasons.

I'm not sure this is a game that I'd want us to use a version of a formation with 3 at the back. It could work, but not sure it's worth the risk when we know how we can perform with a more usual formation.

I wouldn't mind seeing a 4-2-3-1 with Parker and Sandro though. Would maybe even prefer it, am undecided really.

Modric must play central midfield in a three with Parker and Sandro.
We will dominate there midfield with these three.

----------------Friedel-----------------

Walker------Gallas-----King------Ekotto

-----------------Sandro---------------

----------Modric-------Parker----------

Van Der Vaart----------------------Bale

-----------------Adebayor--------------

If King out - Kaboul

If Bale out - Kranjcar

Hasnt been fit since the summer, with a run of games he'll show us that he is a quality player.

We'd benefit from his defensive work rate on the right against Cole. When played against AC Milan and Liverpool he was great, kept his shape and really helped us. Think he'd be ideal in big games away from home and when were in a injury situation like now.

For me for sure 4 man in the back. 3-5-2 IMO too risky against Sturrridge, Drogba and Mata. The proven BAE---King---Kaboul---Walker for me.

Without Lennon and Bale we lose one of our most important strenghtness. The pace. Don't feel Townsend is ready for a game like this, and don't trust Pienaar enough. So for me Sandro and Parker in the centre and creative Modric and Kranjcar on the wings.

Strikers easy choice. Ade and Rafa.

So for me it is the same team that played Liverpool

Subs: Cudicini - Gallas, Rose, Townsend/ Gio (Bale), Pienaar, Livermore, Pav

I'd rather risk an unfit/rusty Pienaar or Kranjcar or the inexperience of Townsend in place of Lennon and/or Bale than shunt Modric and/or van der Vaart out wide and reduce their potency and upset the balance of the team.

Don't see why so many people are ignoring the Kranjcar wide right idea, straight swap in for Lennon from the usual formation, same team that beat Liverpool.

Has to be the 4-2-3-1 the more I think about it.

Same team that played Wigan away for me given that Lennon is out.

Defoe up top with VDV on the right is gift wrapping this for them IMO, when we have an opportunity to field a very solid outfit that I could see winning the game to nil. Why given them an opportunity to exploit a weakness with VDV on the right when we have such a better balance between attack and defense in the 4-2-3-1.

Friedel

Walker
Kaboul
King
Ekotto

Sandro
Parker

Modric
VDV
Bale

Adebayor

Subs: Cuda, Defoe, Pienaar, Kranjcar, Townsend, Gallas, Livermore

If Bale isn't fit I would play Kranjcar with a view to bringing on Pienaar or Townsend later depending on what way the game is going.

Personally I wouldn't have Pav or Bassong on the bench for this one. Although Pav could be worth having on the bench just in case we are desperate come the end

Although that's the bench I would pick I certainly don't expect it to be that.

Kaboul has to play, he's been excellent all season and shouldn't be dropped just because Foy's a ****. If King is fit, he goes in. Harsh on Gallas, who was excellent yesterday, but Kaboul and King have been excellent together for the past 3 months.

Given that Lennon is 100% out, if Bale is not fit I'd go 352. If Bale is fit, 442.

Friedel
Walker Kaboul King Ekotto
VDV Parker Modric Bale
Defoe Adebayor

or

Friedel
Gallas Kaboul King
Walker ................. Ekotto
Parker Modric
VDV
Defoe Adebayor

in either formation Pav in if Defoe is not ready. Hopefully Bale is fit though.

I certainly hope its not the first formation....Cole and Mata could have serious joy down our right hand side.
