The thing with Chelsea, is that they can irritate teams if they go 1 up. I would rather we played to our strengths and had some pace on the wings if we can get Bale fit, I would not start Defoe and Adebayor together. I think if Defoe is fit, he could make a great impact sub.

I would go;

Friedel
Walker-King-Gallas-Ekotto
Sandro
Parker-Modric
VdV Bale
Adebayor

I know, no right winger but I am sure VdV will end up starting there, I just hate seeing him there, in the middle he can pick passes and control the forward movement. Same with Modric, he is not a winger and we restrict our ability by shifting either out to the wing. I would just have Bale play both wings like superman.

Mind you the way Scott P runs, we could play him RW!

All I know is, I am at work when this is on and I am going to be a nervous wreck everytime I check for updates.

I can't think who else to put on the right though.

If Harry doesn't opt for a 4-2-3-1, and I'm certainly hoping he does, it has to be Kranjcar IMO, with Pienaar as an option later on...or vice versa.

I just think VDV on the right comprises our shape and balance more than any other option.

Personally its one of Defoe or VDV with Ade for me....and the latter gets my vote with the former ready on the bench if we need him.

The balance of the side is the most important thing IMO.

I could live with Kranjcar out there quite easily.

ERRATUM.

If VDV is fit he plays.

It's difficult.

Surely yesterday's front 6 with Bale replacing Lennon if fit?

Sandro will obviously play.

Sandro should play as he was magnificent the other day, but not if it means Modric getting shafted out wide as in the first half against Sunderland. That first half Modric, and as such our creativity, was non existent. Should Modric get to play dead centre with Parker and Sandro sits deep, fair enough. Then VDV and Bale could make up a front 3 with Adebayor. But if Modric is going to end up on the wing because of a Sandro Parker combo in the middle then Chelsea will have nothing to fear.

Well VDV was pushed out of the centre (although he came into the centre often) and was still excellent from the right side on Sunday. I'd have no problem with him playing there and dragging Ashley Cole around all afternoon, while Walker bombs into the gap left. That would mean that Modric could play more centrally and Bale on the left.

This is what I hope to see. VDV is fine from the right in my opinion. As long as Modric is in the middle. Of course all of this assumes Bales fitness. Then again, I wouldn't be against Kranjcar coming in if Bale is unfit and still only have one enforcer next to Modric. VDV from the right works fine for me, I just don't want Modric anywhere but the middle.

if bale cant play and the more i think about it, i would play gallas or kaboul right back and push walker up to right midfield. i think there is great strength , pace and drive there with enough defensive awareness to nulify chelsea and wud be better option than say a pienaar or krannjcar who wud bring certain qualities to role but i worry when we dont have the ball in these positions.... lets get one thing clear this nonsense of 4231 has nver happened... it was vdv on right of a 4 man midfield - we got away with it against arsenal very much playing vdv there...harry wont make same mistake agaianst a more powerful team like chelsea

u cud try play vdv on right with 2 central players in sandro and parker covering but when u have runners and elusive players like mata and running power of ramires and runs from cole then there is a danger of central players been dragged all over place to cover right hand side space..vdv is not disciplined enough and does not have legs to get up and down right hand side thats why i say play walker on right midfield with kaboul behind playing a very strict disciplined defensive role behind. its not ideal but its strong and has plenty of legs there to put in a shift.

i think playing walker at RW and kaboul at RB will be a masterstroke too, defensively solid and powerful going forward.
