Lets not forget also that Davies had only recently come into the starting line-up when that game came around. He's progressed a lot since then.
In form, confident, combative and focused. Loving his game atm.

If I was predicting what Poch will pick it'll be this:

Lloris
Trippier Dier Sanchez Vertonghen Davies
Wanyama Dembele
Eriksen Dele
Kane
Vorm, Rose, Alderweireld, Sissoko, Lamela, Lucas, Son

With Son as massive impact sub along with Lamela or Lucas. Can't see Toby being put straight back in and not sure Rose is fit enough.

keep a 4-2-3-1

I doubt this is the game for Toby to make his first start and Dembele will need a rest. So:

Aurier Sanchez Verts Rose

Wanyama Dier

Eriksen Dele Son

Kane

debut off the bench for Moura please

Son took quite a bashing tonight. Wouldn’t be surprised if he has picked up a knock. All we have to do is keep that front 3 Quiet we will score at least 2. So I’d go with a back 3. Son and moura as impact subs.

Vorm Trippier Davies Wanyama Lamela Moura Llorente
Harsh on Sanchez, Trippier and Davies as they were magnificent v Man U.
Agree that Rose and Aurier would be ideal 1st choice WBs against Liverpool, but fitness questions re both, especially Aurier. Think we’ll see either one or both of Davies and Trips.

Sanchez needs to play regardless in this fixture imo. We’ll need his pace and defensive recovery, especially to protect the flanks and support the WBs against the speed and trickery of Salah and Mane. He’ll also be key to reducing the aerial threats of VVD, Matip etc., at set pieces.

Any changes from the team v Utd have to be purely fitness/tiredness related.

It’s hard to argue against this, but I can’t help but think v the pace of Salah and Mane it might make sense to rotate in the quicker full backs, especially after such a high energy outing last night. As for Sanchez, he had his best game in ages and looked very good but if fit, I’d still feel more secure with Toby against a striker who moves as well as Firmino.

Not sure if Dembele is able to start after only a few days rest. I suspect he’ll start on the bench but will be in the starting eleven against Arse.

I also think that Poch might make a change or two in the central defence and rotate the players for the arse game.

This is a tough one, on paper Mane and Salah arse rape Trippier and Davies but then again you’d have expected Martial, Lukaku, Lingard and Sanchez to do the same and they failed miserably. That’s not to say Liverpool won’t have more success or that we won’t succesfully nullify them again.

The key battle here and as per the Man U game is central midfield. Win the midfield battle and you cut off the attack. Teams have done it to us before and we did it to Man U last night.

Subject to fitness we need to stick with the same personnel as last night. For once whether it be due to fatigue or tactical we now have players on the bench whom give us multiple options and have the quality to positively influence the game.

Lloris
Aurier/Trippier Alderwiereld Verts Rose
Wanyama Dembele
Eriksen Alli Son
Kane

Subs:
Vorm Davies Dier Sissoko Lamela Lucas Moura Llorente

We need Rose and Aurier desperately. Yes Davies and Trippier were fine today but Mane and Sarah are a lot more direct with their running.

Hope Dembele is fit and I think Wanyama and Alderwiereld will be big pros if fit enough

If Dembele isn't fit I'd bring in Sanchez and play 5 at the back with Eriksen deeper

If we are setting up to stay compact and counter, should we not pick the most suited eleven to executing those tactics? Irrespective, to an extent at least, what happened last night.

For me that's why Ferguson was so good, always looking ahead at the fixture list and planning tactically ahead and constantly tweaking his side. Bringing in a fresh Park for his high energy style in the big games for example.

If we don't approch this game from a smart tactical point of view we'll get done.

It won't be anything like the game last night. Liverpool will be out of the blocks very quickly with that Anfield atmosphere behind them.

Other than giving Moura his debut in place of Alli? we’re not really in a position to mix it up and set up to nullify Liverpool. Even if Toby is fit he’s been out for months, Wanyama isn’t ready, Lamela doesn’t suit a quick counter, Aurier has been/is still injured and Rose has been missing for several weeks. That only leaves Sissoko and Llorente whom are both a big no no.

I think Wanyama could be ready. Him and Dembele should both start with Dier in a back three.
