Really tempting to play Ali but that would be really quite a jump regardless of how he was in a few pre season games. Apart from that i would be surprised to see Lamela start after having limited game time and just playing 70 odd mins this afternoon/evening. Trip better start tho, looking a lot better then Walker at present.

Got to say that ball retention has looked good in pre-season, but think we might be a bit under-prepared.

Tough first game, and ideally I would include Mason as think he did generally did a good job last season, and the more experience he gets with Bentaleb the better. OT though was probably the one place they were found out last year.

Alli to me is the key, which is big risk for someone who will be making PL debut. See him playing in front of a 2, but still offering a defensive element and then slightly withdrawn from the other attacking mids allowing him to run from deep and join attacks.

If Alli starts in beside Bentaleb...I think Lamela will be on the bench - as Dembele will take that slot on the right of the three. If Alli is on the bench...then Dembele will be deeper beside Bentaleb, with Lamela in that right sided spot.

To be fair, he could likely keep up with Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin. He'd get abused against more mobile midfields, though.

I kind of feel like his role was to basically clog up passing lanes with his size as opposed to getting about and harassing anyone that came through the midfield.

Part of me wants to put up a guess line-up including potential signings, but I did that last year, and I think I jinxed it as it included Musacchio, Schneiderlin and Remy/Welbeck...

I wish we'd actually got new signings

Changes I'd make- Trippier in for Walker, Alli in for Veljkovic, and move Dembele to the right and Lamela central. Townsend is injured, so Carroll in for him on the bench, and Onomah on for Pritchard. Hopefully Mason is able to be on the bench- if not, then I'd probably have Winks or Walker on instead.

Right at this moment, with the team united are building and with the players we currently have, playing them away first game, I'd start that lot. I think we'll need to be very solid through the middle yet still pose significant danger in the final third.

Also want bentaleb to be able to roam forward and get shots away and join in attacks.

Will no doubt adjust this when our next buy arrives. So no freaking out at alli at 10 you mupps.

I'd accept Dier in midfield in this game if he was anchoring a cm3 and didn't have to chase about. I'd have to assume that his experience in midfield at Sporting was as part of a 4-3-3 because of how he instinctively plays very centrally and drops between the two centre backs.

I think Dembele has more to offer than Lamela at the moment. He can come in centrally too and has those left-footed missiles which we don't see often enough. I'll be content with any starting XI with the exception of Dier in midfield
