according to a setanta snippet I just read it seems our harry may play jd this weekend as pav has a back problem

Yup:

http://www.setanta.com//uk/Articles/Football/2009/04/17/Prem-Redknapp-on-Defoe/gnid-49002/

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is considering recalling Jermain Defoe for the clash with Newcastle United on Sunday.

The England international, who returned to White Hart Lane from Portsmouth in January but has been out with a foot injury, had been expected to miss much of the campaign.

However, the predatory striker has made a quick recovery and, with doubts over Roman Pavlyuchenko's availability, he could be aiming to heap more misery on relegation-haunted Newcastle.

"Yeah, he's come back in good form," explained Redknapp on Setanta Sports News.

"He's looked sharp and trained all week.

"It's good to have him back so we'll see how he is tomorrow. There's every chance he could be involved in the game on Sunday.

"It is earlier [than we expected]

"There is a problem as Roman Pavlyuchenko has got a back problem and we're not sure he's going to be fit.

"So maybe, in my mind, it pushes Jermain forward a little bit quicker perhaps. But I wouldn't push him and chance him if he wasn't up to it.

"He has looked very sharp all week."

 Hopefully Pav is ok

here's some more from the daily mail

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-mission-Spurs-boss-turned-down.html?ITO=1490

Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas is a doubt to play against his old club, but Redknapp said he had trained all week and would have a fitness test tomorrow. Wilson Palacios returns from suspension, but Roman Pavlyuchenko is an injury doubt.

Redknapp has not given up on European qualification. He said: 'I want to finish as high as possible. It would be the icing on the cake to get a European place. It's not going to be easy but if we could do it, it would be a fantastic achievement.
'Staying in the Premier League was the most important thing when I came here. We were only clear last week when we got 41 points.'

DC analysis starts here :)

I wondered where all this stuff about jj being a major doubt had come over the last two days - given there was nothing on the OS

turns out (IMO) as I suspected, they were just reiterating old news from last weekend

given JJ has been training all week, he must have a good chance of playing

Keane and Defoe up front?

Like Tim Gunn, I am worried. Make it work 'Arry.

mmm tricky

keane & jd/db - leave it to HR is my decision :)

We do that every week. This time I think we should have a mini lottery with the 11 lucky ballmatchers winning the chance to pick a player for one position. Harry's job is easy. Just make that team work. He should be grateful that we are willing to take half of his workload off his hand for free. If we pitch it that way maybe Levy would go for it.

Wasn't there some club that had its fans vote on things like team selection online? But they received too few votes or something (though I don't think we'd have the same problem lol)

I'm pretty sure the inevitable JJ debate would cause full internet meltdown

defoe for the bench hopefully!

I'd go with:

Gomes

Corluka King Woody Ekotto

Lennon Palacios Jenas Modric

Keane Bent

Subs: Cudicini, Hutton, Dawson, Hudd, O'Hara, Bentley, Defoe

the messages re jj still seem really mixed

some papers have him out of the game - it seems from my understanding of what HR said that he's been training all week but will have a fitness test

well unless the training's been very light surely he'll be fit - he was playing for weeks before the west ham game

very confusing

key thing obviously is not to take any risks

any doubts on jj then it's hudd and wilson to start - with zokora and o'hara as good back up

Maybe he got injured during the game.

He can be training all week but if he isnt 100% fit he shoudlnt play, eevn with a slight injury you can train to a certain extent to keep some fitness but woldnt be able to do everything he needs to do to play

Hi :)

it's clear that jj was injured during the game - he wouldn't have come off otherwise

we knew that last weekend

what is unclear to me is how he can be definitely 'out' (according to some reports) if he's been training all week

as you rightly say it depends on the level of training - but this hasn't been made clear to me - and I doubt it was clear to the media who on the thursday were running the jj 'major doubt' stories

as I said I suspect they were merely catching up on old news - and in true media style either unaware how far they were off the pace - or dressing up leftovers as a brand new dish

He's out time to bring moaner big Tom in and prove his worth to 'Arry.... How we need this win today, not just because of Europe, but the hated I have for the Barcodes !!! I just want to see the back of the so called 'big club' for one season and watch the Geordies burn down Sports Direct stores in the NE ... But knowing our luck, we will get beat by them today ...

hi alfie - I agree that from news now 'reports' it might seem jj is out - but as I say the only real news seems to be from the OS and harry - and that seems to be 'mixed messages'

IIRC harry said jj trained all week and will have a fitness test - while the OS reports harry saying that jj is struggling

a lot depends on the term 'training'

I would say the default option for that term is 'full training'

usually if it is only 'light training' 'training with the ball' whatever, the relevant caveat is put in

well, not long to team sheet time

I must say it's the doubt over pav that worries me more -

i so wanted a (relatively) fit pav to line up with keane for this one

I assume bent starts if pav doesn't

if both pav and jj are missing - need a big big game from luka I reckon

also how fit is lennon? - hope he's a bit sharper than the the last one or two games where he hasn't looked so devastating as his earlier peak form
