I think Modders is injured as well and certainly not worth risking with such a big game on Wednesday. I'd go the same as you but BAE at LB and Bale at LW.

if i was HArry i would give crouch the DVD of berbatov when we beat bolton 4-1 and tell him "thats what you gotta do alright"

hmmmmm guess im getting cynical in my old age but i cant help think all those players will have a miraculous recover in time for Wednesday night. Where as saying they are being rested out right should we fail to win on Saturday will be condemned

And if I were Crouch, I'd hand it back and say "blood from a stone gaffer". Then I'd go fuck a prostitute.

Gomes

Corluka Dawson Bassong BAE

Lennon Palacios Hudd Bale

Crouch Obika

Subs: Cudicini, Kaboul, Walker, Kranjcar, Rose, Jenas, Kane

Would rest Leds and Luka with the game on Wednesday in mind. I'd definitely look to start with two banks of four away to Stoke with Palacios holding and Hudd playing very slightly advanced of him and then using two quick wide players to get at the Stoke FBs. I'd rather play Obika in front of Crouch than change formation to accommodate another midfielder, especially as Crouch plays better with another striker up top with him. I don't think Obika would let anyone down - he had a great pre-season and now's a good opportunity to give him a start.

That's ridiculous. Revised team selection;

Gomes
Corluka Dawson Bassong Ekotto
Hudd Palacios
Lennon Kranjcar Bale
Crouch

That's what I'd pick if all the doubtfuls are out. Really suspect that if Kranker was played for a season behind a striker who could hold it up, he'd score a severe amount of goals. >15 seems more likely than <15.

Well that seemed like a good idea. Can't believe that of our top 7 forwards only one will be available (four injured, two now on loan). Now switching to this which I think would be a lot less effective.

I would say that Palacios & Modric is the midfield combo that doesn`t work....

My mistake, this is what I meant. The pair that started against YB ..so yeah that would be Modric and Palacios!! My bad :duh:

Only change I would make I think, Unit Kaboom has the strength and is great in the air, aerial bombardment and all that.

I thought you were losing your marbles Racky. To be fair Modric and Palacios should work reasonably well on paper but whenever they have tried Palacios has either been miles away from sharpness (love the guy, he is an absolute hero and seems a great human being, just seems to have struggled of late whether it is sharpness or even being affected since his brother was discovered) and/or Modric has been coming back from fitness. Whatever it is no need to really play them together any time soon to figure out how to get it to work (maybe a League Cup game would be good).

Haha indeed. I see how my comment got highlighted and was wondering what I said wrong, then I read my comment and thought to myself .."did I really type that??" or did B-C somehow get access to my account and make comments on my behalf?

Im thinking Mod / Palacios dont work mainly because Palacios isnt particularly good at retaining possession under pressure. Modric usually tends to push on when he plays CM, and so when Palacios comes flying out to to win the ball, or commits to a tackle and doesnt come out successful - our midfield looks worryingly open / exposed. Whilst hudd is pretty disciplined and is happy to recieve the ball and distribute it at will - always open to recieve the pass / naturally more comfortable on the ball too ofc.

I see the Palacios shit in possession myth is alive and well.

Ive never heard of it before? In fact this is the first time ive bought it up.

I dont know what stats suggest, but its just an observation from watching him play, he seems to be the player that gives the ball away the most in our midfield.

Not just that, but I also feel he dwells on the ball a little too much sometimes, often resulting in him getting put under uneccasary pressure, contrary to Hudd, who will notice this and get rid pretty quick.

Palacios is a great player, dont get me wrong, fantastic ball winner and puts an awful lot off stress on opposition midfield - but on the ball, he isnt the best.
