How anyone can advocate a midfield three without Bentaleb in it is amazing.

I'd agree with others that I'd like an additional body in midfield, but that formation is entirely reliant on Ade showing up and playing like the guy we saw in the second half and not the first. If he plays like the first, we'll struggle to create, if he plays like the second, we'll be fine.

Lloris
Walker (Naughton) Dawson Vlad Rose
Dembele Capoue/Sandro Bentaleb
Lennon Ade Eriksen

I'd be hestitent about throwing Sandro straight in after a lay off, but if he is good to go, stick him in, otherwise Capoue anchored and Moose and Bentaleb playing in front. With three in midfield I'd ask Ade not to drop off, stay on the defenders shoulder, hold the ball up, bring others into play. Possession is good, but we need an outlet.

You either need a goal scorer on the right or in the middle. Lennon has no one to cross to (Ade on his own is easy to mark) and doesn't score goals. So Lamela or Chadli on the right or include someone like Siggy in the middle or play two strikers. Ade dropping off can actually be good so long as he's drawing a defender and the other players (especially wide forwards) are running in to the space created.

Swansea look quite stretched on the injury front, lost Canas today. They've drawn 3, and lost 4 of their last seven in the league but I think have played well in the last couple of games including the cup. I think their team could be the following with only De Guzman or Triendelli to come back from injury.

Tremmel
Rangel Williams Chico Davies
Routledge Amat Britton Shelvey Pozuelo
Bony

Their bench today didn't have much experience, so if we can get our noses in front we can win this. We're a different side away from home. Just don't want us to be complacent like we seemed today.

Lloris

Walker vlad verts fryers

Capoue bentaleb

Lamela Eriksen chadli

Adebayor

But I'd be happy with any 2 of capoue, dembele, or bentaleb.

Rose has been shit for a few games in a row and someone else needs to be given a chance. Same story with soldado, although he may be injured

Edit:and dependant on the fitness of Lamela and verts of course. And was walker taken off because he was injured, or just because he was shit?

if sandro is fit he plays , end of.. i dont care how good bentalab was against palace at home.

same goes for verts, dawson out .

sandro dembele in middle eriksen and lennon either side

will be a vital match considering chelsea come up against united. could be huge chance to put gap against united again and in general really put us in mix as alot of top teams playing each other over next few games

What form lol? Why do people keep saying this

If we play a real 4-3-3 then there's no way we should be starting with Lennon on the right. If we play two strikers then it's fine with me

Yes and lamela's really been tearing it up lately!

Yes and lamela's really been tearing it up lately!

So you've addressed the points that a) Lennon isn't on that greater form and b) Lennon is not suited to a one striker 4-3-3 with the riposte that.....the bloke who hasn't been allowed to have a go at playing football where he should be playing football at all all season.......has not been tearing it up from the stands.

.............Lloris
Walker Dawson Vlad Rose
....Bentaleb...Dembele
Lennon Eriksen Townsend
..............Ade

I see a few advantages lining up this way 4 5 1. Lennon, while a wide attacker has developed a great work effort defensively....its better to keep up this expectation of him and Townsend...in the transition to attack it does actually become 4 3 3 . The key player in this line up is Eriksen who has to be given the responsibilty to decide for himself when he is a midfielder, when an attacker and when to to loiter between the lines

It'll definitely be interesting to see if we do any changes to counter Swanseas strengths, or if it'll be the same lineup with two forwards and one playmaker (I don't dare to write any combination of number since I'll be prompting some a-hole to try and shoot me to pieces with a heat map).

We saw again against Palace that our current setup only works if Adebayor or both of our strikers are up to it.

--------------Lloris------------
-Walker-Dawson-Chicheres-Rose
-------Dembele-Sandro/Capoue-
-Lennon-----Eriksen-----Chadli-
------------Adebayor----------

Subs: Friedel, Kaboul, Naughton, Bantelab, Holtby, Towsend, Defoe

Never gonna happen this team with Tim in charge. We have to play a DM and have to play 5 in midfield, Swansea will tear us apart with their passing football otherwise. Lennon and Chadli will give us width, was slightly reluctant to move Eriksen from the left wing but not sure who else would play AM. Bentaleb played well last weekend but we need Dembele more than Bentaleb.

Swansea can be a tough one if we play wide open again between midfield and defense. There has to be Sandro or Capoue in the side.

I would like to see:

-----------------------Lloris-------------------------
Naughton------Dawson---------Chiri----------Rose---
---------------------Capoue/Sandro-----------------
------------Dembele---------------Bentaleb----------
-----Lamela-----------Adebayor-----------Eriksen----

Subs: Friedel, Fryers, Capoue/ Sandro, Holtby, Lennon, Soldado, Chadli

Won't happen though. Guess the same as yesterday, only Naughton in for Walker. Could mean trouble

We must play a defensive midfielder, whether that is as well as Bentaleb and Dembele or in place of one of them. Because one thing is clear, again very noticeable 1st half yesterday, our work as a midfield unit (not individual performance) was very poor, neither Dembele or Bentaleb played a disciplined enough game in a positional sense and in the first half against a better team we would have been 2/3 down due to the amount of space we were leaving.

I agree with that, and I'd also like to see Ade upfront on his own, with either Eriksen or Lamela behind him.

sandro is back in training right?

absolutely shocked people here seem to have bentalab , dembele etc etc etc in front of him... what games do they be watching... with sandro in side we look more a team and a million times stronger and better to boot.

if he is fit he plays and huge chnace we get 3 points which we will need.

oh and as much as i think walker as a pretty brainless headless chicken the idea of naughton at right back terrifies me more. he might have set up a goal yesterday but would not have him in my pub side. hope there is something in villa rumours and we can get a proper full back in .
