Team vs Tromso

It is a sign of the brilliant business we've done over this summer and the past windows to create just a strong squad capable of competing in several competitions despite loosing some of our top players. We could make 11 changes and still have a team that would give most premiership teams a run for their money. I just can't get over how pleased I am about the clubs development.

For Tromso, I think we can safely see Freidal getting his obligatory run out.
Given Walker was involved in every game so far and was away on international duty too, I think Naughton will start.
It's important for Kaboul to get 90mins under his belt so he's a given. Have Chiriches permit details been sorted out yet? Even if so, I can see AVB selecting Dawson(he's captain and Vert played for Belgium) in order to keep some sort of continuity at the back.
Rose wasn't involved in the international period and is beginning to show great form so I would start with him still so he can build upon the performances so far.
Sandro, like Kaboul, is a cert to start. I would take out Dembele and Paulinho for them to be rested given the amount of game time they've had and the international duty/travel. I also think Eriksen should start so he can get more game time in the new environment to learn about those around him. So I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a midfield of Sandro, Holtby, Eriksen.
Lamela needs to start for similar reasons as I said for Eriksen and I'd like to see Siggy on the other side. He's always came across as being nearly there for us, so now that things have started going his way I think it's important he's given a chance to build upon it and get his confidence going.

Friedal
Naughton Kaboul Dawson(Chiriches) Rose
Sandro Holtby Eriksen
Lamela Defoe Siggy

Should be more than enough to deal with Tromso with all due respect. They are relegation candidates in a Norwegian league, that qualified in a lucky chain of events and most likely wont have their first team playing due to build up of matches.

Friedel; Naughton, Dawson, Chiriches, Fryers; Sandro, Holtby; Lamela, Chadli, Lennon; Defoe

That's a team that should absolutley crush a team like Tromsø to be honest.. I know Lennon and Chadli might not be fit and in that case need to be replaced.. Lamela need some gametime as do Sandro and Holtby so atleast an hour for those three would be ideal..

I actually thought it was some kind of philosophical quote in relation to resting players and reaping the rewards over the course of the season.

Ha this is what I was expecting as well.

Any 11 players that made any sort of senior appearance last season (+ our incomings) should be enough to win. I really would prefer to see Lloris play though.

Lloris
Naughton Kaboul Fryers Rose
Sandro Holtby
Lamela Eriksen Siggy
Defoe

SUBS: Friedel Walker Daws Dembele Townsend Kane Soldado
REST: Jan Paulinho
INJ/INE: Vlad Capoue Lennon Chadli Ade
Fuck me, our squad is strong.

With regards to substitutions, ideally if we are in a controlling position we can give Dembele another half an hour as well as seeing what Townsend can do against tired legs and get Kane some minutes. I would prefer to not see Soldado or Walker at all if possible.

I hope Towsend doesn't continue to keep Lamela out of the team. I heard he has had the most shots in the league with no goals... I'm sure Lamela can get into similar positions as Townsend but with a better end product.

We have moaned for years about Lennons final ball and now with have the same problem with Townsend.

By the way I do rate Townsend and I think he will get better but lets give him a rest.

With Lamela being left footed and arguably being able to play anywhere across the front (despite his favoured position being cutting in from the right) I don't think it's a question of Townsend keeping him out of the team, I think it's more AVB just bringing him slowly up to speed, letting him have time to train, acclimatise and introducing him gradually into the first team. You don't spend £30m on a player without wanting him to be one of the cornerstones of your team so I wouldn't judge his lack of inclusion as anything negative yet.

Naughton Kaboul Dawson Rose
Sandro Holtby Debele
Lamala Defoe Siggy/Townsend

That's my take, more minutes for Sandro, Kaboul and Lamala to get up to speed. Obvious game time for Defoe, Naughton, Friedel and Holtby as they won't get it in the league. Rose because he is young enough and super fit. Dawson because Fryers isn't ready and Vlad seems to have gone missing. The only toss up i think is between Siggy and Townsend - both are getting enough game time and are fit enough to play 2 games in a week if needs be, personally i would go with siggy as it would give a rest to townsend for the high speed option at the weekend. Resting Verts, Soldado, Paulinho, Walker and Hugo as they have played all games so far plus internationals, plus Eriksen (although i'd give him 20 minutes at the end for fitness). I guess if Chadli returns he could fill in on the left/right alongside defoe and lamala. Should be a walk in the park this one.

“We are expecting [the paperwork] anytime soon, it could have even arrived today, but it hasn’t and he’s not going to be involved,” he said.

“I think for Bulgaria and Romania the process takes a bit longer. Sometimes it happens quicker.

“At the moment we are waiting for the post to arrive for the player to be registered. As awkward as it may look and sound, that is the reality. Obviously the player is frustrated with the situation but we can’t do anything about it.”

Surely someone at Royal Mail is a Spurs fan and can take a quick detour

You would think Lennon and Chadli will definitely be back for the League Cup game at Villa next week.

Andre Villas-Boas reported that the ‘small strain’ in an adductor muscle that kept Nacer out of Saturday’s win against Norwich will keep him sidelined again.

“He’s making good progress, so hopefully we’ll see him involved again soon,” said Andre after training on Wednesday.
Etienne Capoue (ankle) and Aaron Lennon (foot) also remain out.

“The rest of the players apart from Lennon and Capoue have trained,” added Andre. “The team is ready for the challenge.”

Lennon has a 'stress response on the bone of his foot' and 'still feels the pain'. AVB expects him to be out for another week or two.

Unbelievably strong squad from which AVB can choose a match day squad despite a few injuries and a wait for Chirches work permit.
