haha. Wrong thread. Def leaving it though. Lets all work hard like the bees!

I actually thought it was some kind of philosophical quote in relation to resting players and reaping the rewards over the course of the season. I SPAM rated you because there was no jar of honey rating.

You'll be pleased to know that I wasted at least 30 seconds of my life actually trying to work out if there was any existential meaning to that in regards to our rotation policy.

I expect to see Friedel in goal and Defoe lead the line.
I would like to see Ade, Holtby, Chiriches and Kaboul.

It does, he means if 1 bee works for 12 years we have a tea spoon, if 100's work together and rotate its done quicker and easier.... so rotate it is!

We have to field a "second string" team for this.

Friedel
Naughton - Vrsaljko - Chiriches - Fryers
Sandro - Holtby
Lamela - Kane - Chadli
Defoe

  • Dawkins, Gylfi and Bentaleb/Townsend to come of the bench.
  • We improved our squad for this kind of games, so we could rotate without dropping way to low on quality. And its important to keep everyone in our squad match fit and involved and to give them a chance to show what they are about.
  • Reason i dont have Kaboul in there is because if its true he can only play 90 min once a week, id rather we save him for Cardiff away (but this wont happen so im pretty sure he will start on Thursday)

I'm torn.

Can see the merits in wholesale changes, but can also see the merits in giving players time to bed in and gel. We keep speaking about the unknown being how long it will take us to gel, a game like this could prove a fantastic opportunity.

No idea.

Think we'll see a strong team with the likes of Kane and Fryers on the bench alongside some big-gun backup.

I think we'll still be waiting to see Chiriches with all the work permit bollocks.

Friedel
Naughton Kaboul Verts Rose
Sandro Dembele
Lamela Holtby Townsend
Defoe

Bench of Lloris, Walker, Fryers, Dawson, Pauline, Chadli, Kane

Any information on their style of play?

I agree with others that our fringe players are good enough to beat them.

If they aren't very physical then I'm happy for some 1st team players to play to build an understanding and give players like Holtby and Kaboul to get a run out to get some match fitness.

If they're very physical then maybe not.

This is the funny bit. I couldn't care less of the Norwegian league unfortunately and therefore hasn't seen Tromsø in many games this season :) This is because the league sucks big-time and all my time is devoted to Spurs.

They are quite physical yes, and have always been known to play a physical game. In the last couple of years though, they have been playing a team game, where hard work and counter attack has been their main philosophy. They have quite offensive defenders on both sides, and they use to have one or two really good players which allowed them to fight for top 3-4 several seasons.

They still have most of the same players, and the same style, but they have lost their best players like most teams in Norway do.

I believe they will throw away any tactics and style of play coming to White Hart Lane. It's gonna be a 10-men defence with one guy running up top hoping to score from a counter attack.

They beat Besiktas 2-1 at home, but lost 2-0 away. Quite surprising, results, and everybody here in Norway thought that was better than expected. The only reason they are in the group stage is because Besiktas were denied participation by UEFA.

I said earlier that Tromsø should be bottom Championship, and I still believe that (or even worse). But Spurs could lose to Leeds, Bradford etc, especially if we're resting our best players, and therefore we could 1 out of 100 lose to Tromsø as well.

I would say 4-0 or 5-0 is much more likely, even if we are lining up a B-team.

(I could be underestimating them a bit, and as I said, I really don't see many Norwegian games, but our national team are real shait at the moment and the Tromsø players aren't even close to a spot in the national team)

Fun fact: It's cheaper for me to see this game in London than Tromsø! London is also closer than Tromsø :)

Fun fact 2: I wouldn't dream of wasting one of my 2 yearly games at White Hart Lane watching a crap-team like Tromsø.

Did you mean Veljkovic? I'd like to see him at some point too but I think Kaboul needs games to get back up to speed so it's a bit of a catch 22. I think we will therefore see him in the Europa League until he's fully 100% and then he'll start in the PL. Otherwise I'd agree with that line-up.

Gomes: I think he suits the high line much better then Freidel does.

Naughton: Would do him good to give him a run out and give the other chuckle brother a sign that the position isn't his and he will have to work to keep it.

Kaboul: Needs to be eased in. Good game for it.

Vertonghen: If Chiriches is still unavailable then Verts is our go to guy.

Rose: Toyed with the idea of Fryers but think Rose is one of those players that gets better the more he plays, like he showed at Sunderland last season.

Sandro: Needs game time.

Holtby: Really does deserve more game time now he has been here a while as his last couple of performances have shown. Don't want him to become disillusioned as he is a great asset and I really believe he will become a major part of the clubs future.

Sigurdsson: He is a confidence player and so think of we stick with him for this game he will put in an even better performance.

Lamela: The perfect time to start giving him game time to get used to his new team mates.

Townsend: Want to see him giving us some old school wing play. Get past his man and cross it for the forward.

Soldado: Strikers need goals to build confidence and he should be able to get a couple here and then hopefully he can bring that confidence to the league matches.

Subs: Freidel and some of the kids, Coulthirst, Bentelab etc.

Don't quite understand where people are coming from when they say 'our B team is strong enough to win this one'.

We don't have a B team, we have a squad!! And it is to be hoped that whoever is chosen on Thursday night will beat Tromso.

The team that plays a PL match on a Saturday is not our A team, it is merely the side that AVB has sent out that week which he believes is best suited to picking up 3 points against the opposition. On the bench will be players who may be needed if injuries occur or changes in tactics are required.

I believe that a case can be made for most players to be included in a Saturday starting line-up, as said it's the nature of the opposition and how AVB wants us to play that will dictate who is in that side. Keeping players fit and rested will be important through this season - rotation is key.

That's what's so good about Spurs at the present - the spending in this last window appears to generally allow us to change a team without it affecting strength.

All the time AVB will be looking a couple of games ahead in his planning.

That said, I do not think Lloris and Soldado will be playing Thursday, and possibly Paulinho - but there are arguments as to why all the others from last Saturday should be up for selection, even Eriksen.

It's a way to distinguish the assumed best eleven and the rest. Holtby is now a B-player because he has not been in the starting eleven for some time. He could be anytime in the near future, but at this moment he is on the B team.

It's nothing dramatic...

If we started with Friedel, Naughton, Fryers, Kane, Holtby we would have said that this was the B team...

But I agree that we have an awesome group of players :)

hoping it will be something close, would like to see a few new players start as i'll be there for the game

after a slight rethink it might be an idea for blending quicker, and get the main 4 up top fully match fit and definitely put Saldado in place of Defoe. it might be an idea to play Chadli in place of Siggy, though with both those in the squad they need to fight eachother for their place.

Lol aye meant veljkovic, and ye we will prob see kaboul on thursday but was hoping we maybe saved him for cardiff as he has looked very lively when he played earlier. Even storming forward like he never been injured.

Townsend interviewed about the game on official site,
most often that's a sign he'll start the game.
