This is absolutely spot on. Looking back at the summer transfer window it's obvious to see that we left a lot of necessary business unfinished.

All summer long we were linked with a tricky, pacey attacker. First Zaha, who we insulted with a derisory contract offer. Then Keita Balde, who supposedly insisted on a release clause which we were not willing to give him. Then on deadline day JJ told us that pace was coming, but in the end it didn't. It was obviously an area where the club knew we needed to improve, but whether due to poor planning or bad luck, we didn't.

Same goes for central midfield. All summer we were told that Barkley was coming, and there were multiple reports that Poch saw him in a box to box role. Then he got injured and we switched gears to Gomes, but pulled out at the last second. Again it was an area that had been identified as needing improvement, and again nothing happened.

It's impossible to say how much better off we'd be if we'd actually done the business that everybody, fans and club alike, knew we needed to do. But there's no doubt in my mind that our dithering has cost us, and as long as we continue to kick the can down the road on addressing glaring weaknesses within the squad we will not be able to keep pace with those around us.
In some ways I understand Levy's thinking. We've been burnt before with big money signings who have failed to succeed and then proven even more of a problem to offload. So I can understand the hesitation on some deals.

Having said that I believe there was multiple occasions in which we dithered or lacked the conviction to sign up certain players that would have added a different dimension to how we play. I'd love to win the league by consistently making smart investments like Alli. Unfortunately reality tells us that Levy needs to step up now and help Poch obtain those missing links and difference makers.

This summer was certainly a missed opportunity; whether Poch wasn't convinced on certain players, put all of his stakes on one player (Keita) or it was a case of Levy not willing to take the lunge with finances who knows. It can't happen again, otherwise I feel we will regress slightly before we improve again.

Can't help but feel we should have used the lure of CL football this season during the summer window to attract a higher calibre of player(s) the club couldn't necessarily attract without CL football (to more of an extent). The wages we offer can't compete with the other top clubs in the EPL - but at the start of the summer, we looked a very attractive proposition after a great couple of seasons playing some fantastic football, with more CL football to come.

That could have been a pretty attractive for some players which may have countered the fact we cant pay as much as some of the other clubs in wages (for the time being)..

Now we potentially wont have CL football again next season - making us somewhat less attractive to certain players. Maybe.

Has anyone had any information about us potentially doing anything in January? Usually hear whispers that "poch wants this/that" etc if there is the likelihood of anything happening.

Gabriel Jesus' new contract just goes to show how much of a different level City are operating on. Getting players signed in advance might be our only hope of getting top class players. Modric was a prime example. Keita for Liverpool might be an absolute masterstroke

Think Poch did hint that this was his intention.

I’d honestly go £50m bosh for zaha. Even if he helped beating Juve that’s £10m back straight away. Will shut up all the moaners as well. Who knows he could be £70m in the summer. Pretty sure if we knew now then we would have offered £35m.

I don't think it makes us any less attractive mate as we don't pay the stellar bucks to attract the top stars, so I would assume that it will have minimal impact on recruitment at least we hope.

The stars never seem to allign though. If you based any possible lure of Champions League on our efforts in the previous season, the effect would be negligable. We've done much better this time around but there's every possibility we won't get back in it next year. I also think players we're interested in hold out for a bigger financial package from other clubs and then quite often watch from the bench while their careers stagnate. None of them seem to learn (Eh, Michy?)

Pulisic is a Nike kid...maybe Nike would assist in getting him moved to Spurs next month? Imagine the havoc created by he and Son attacking from the wings. *grasps at all of the straws*

For all Danny boy has done for our club over the years, this has been his biggest failing and he really, REALLY needs to snap out of it!!

I think for the vast majority of players cash is king, I don't think they'd really give a monkeys whether they're playing in the CL or not!

Do we want him? Do we think he will get over his injury? Would he benefit from working with our medical team? Would he benefit from working with our coaching staff for six months more than six weeks?
Would buying him in January ensure he didn't go elsewhere?
If the answer to those questions is yes then why leave it until summer?
How is that short term?

Add to that he is probably fully fit but feigning injury till January?

palace aren't letting zaha go anywhere in Jan, no chance unless it was silly stuff like £90 million
they need him to avoid relegation desperately

Gaitan is leaving Atleti in January, his agent has confirmed. Could be a loan or perm. Weren't we interested in him when he was leaving Benfica?
