I love it when Bent scores becasue he gets so unfairly slated on here. He's a percentage stiker! He's never going to be pleasing on the eye. But he'll play the percentages all day long and therefore at the end of the season will have scored an amount of goals that illustrate this. It's about making the runs to be in the right place at the right time, rather than relying on great technical ability. He's never going to score Berbatov style goals, but he will make runs into the right area all day long and therefore can be sure of getting in scoring positions and thus a certain percentage of the time put the ball in the back of the net.

His price tag is not his ball and chain though. If players got het up with what they cost their new clubs there would be a psychiatric ward full of ex-players. He just gets on with the job he is put in the team to do, as do they all. :shrug:Unfairly slated?
Price has a little to do with it.
People say, when we create Bent will score bucket loads and he has done well to even score three goals so far with the limited oppurtunites he has had, but thats not the problem.
The reason we are not creating chances is mostly because we have Bent up front. Everyone is saying the service from the midfielders has been poor, and whilst ill say it has not been great, in past seasons its not the service from the middle that has led to us scoring so many goals, it was the understanding keano and berbatov had up top and led to them creating oppurtunites for each other.
Most of our goals came because of Berbatov's ability to hold the ball up, win flick on's for keane to run onto, or vice versa for keane dropping deep and helping create.
I know bent does not do this, but we will create very little chances for him in the first place because of it. He simply wants through balls and 1on1 oppurtunites as well as poachers goals, this means we need the midfield to push on and help create that sort of opening, its not going to happen much.
Hopefully pav or campbell can add another dimension to our attack, because it is seriously needed.
You're saying that as if it's a negative thing, but really, it's totally out of order for a team to be so reliant on the strikers to score goals as we were last season. Our midfield did pretty much bugger all the whole year and Ramos bought a lot of new midfielders, most notably Modric and Bentley, specifically so they can provide a creative outlet so our strikers don't have to do everything on their own.People say, when we create Bent will score bucket loads and he has done well to even score three goals so far with the limited oppurtunites he has had, but thats not the problem.

You're absolutely right. Bent is guilty of not being Keane or Berbatov. But we didn't buy him to be Keane or Berbatov. We bought him to be a bigger version of Defoe, full of pace and power, with the added bonus of being taller than a dwarf. Keane and Berbatov got the midfield out of jail over the last few seasons by doing a lot of their work for them - now it's time for our midfielders to actually create chances for Bent.

Yes, it would be nice to see Bent do more for the team than just be there to stick the ball in the net, but look at ManUre, and how Rooney and Tevez, Shrek in particular, are totally goal shy and seem to play for the sole purpose of creating chances for the other one. With Ronaldo last year ManUre had the goalscorer anyway, he just played on the wing instead of up front, and we all see how ManUre have struggled (by their standards) so far this season.
Check his scoring record for us in detail, and it's rather better than 'sometimes'.
