They are dark horses for the tournament. Few expect them to win the thing but they have a chance. Everyone expects them to do well because they are a good team. There is no contradiction with saying both.

The definition of dark horse is a team or individual that little is known about who succeeds. Everyone kno0ws about Belgium's talent, hence they are not dark horses.

"Dark Horse: a person (such as a politician), animal, or thing that competes in a race or other contest and is not expected to win"

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dark horse

That was the orginal meaning but it only really applies to horse racing. Where you can actually have competitors where basically nothing is known about. It is used though in most sports and in politics to mean essentially an unexpected winner. This is different to an outsider who has more expectation. An outsider for the world cup would be say Italy or even France.

The Argentina v Trinidad match is fun. All Argentina but there have been some spectacular misses. It is 1-0 now. Palacio from a corner right before half time.

Watching the Brazil - Serbia friendly on BT Sport 1 at the moment, 35 mins gone, it's still 0-0 and Brazil are struggling against a very decent looking Serbian side. The pitch quality isn't helping, but the hosts aren't looking too clever despite having the very best XI playing (including Paulinho).

Reus has fucked his ankle and will probably be out of the world cup

Anyone else watching the Croatia v Australia game ?

I can't help but feel this 442 that Kovac insists on persisting with is going to cost them. It doesn't maximise the players they have.

Ridiculous amount of injured stars for this world cup with Ribery and Reus confirmed out this week.

No Ibra either, obviously. Hopefully Messi and Ronaldo will be able to light it up.

Funny reaction from a Klinsmann quote saying the US cannot win this World Cup (which obviously is completely true). Of course that goes against the whole "we are American we can do anything" ethos that some like to push. Included in this was a ridiculous (and factually incorrect) rant from soccer hater Michael Wilbon who yelled "Get out of America" about Klinsmann. Of course Klinsmann has lived in the US for 20 years and has American born children so that was quite absurd...

I think Chile have a really good chance- excellent wingers, a truly world class box to box mid (only Yaya is better) in Vidal, unique tactics and close to home. They did a number on England in the friendly.

I am really excited about the WC this year for some reason- like the good old days in the nineties when we all thought England were going to win every time. Not bothered if England lose just want to see the fresh young team take on the World's best. Also I adore Brazil- will be an amazing spectacle of a World Cup. Especially in Rio.

Not to mention Sanchez. I like Chile a lot too, was saying the same in another thread, could see them getting to the semis easily.
