Yep!!! Lets hope Marcus can see the bigger picture and is happy with furthering his development with us.

I think it will all be fine for now. At lest will see where he is in a year or twos time they know this is one of the best clubs to be at for youth

If we really value him as one of the best prospects in years, we should be getting Kane to mentor him. This is what the likes of United and Liverpool did for years, get the senior players in the ears of the young lads who look up to them, and get them focused on making it at their current club, and away from any tempting distractions.

I chanced up this site: http://www.football-talents.co.uk/Tottenham_Hotspur-26_27-2-9-170.html

A bit weird site with lots of random players from the past that - I have never heard of - being listed plus some u-16 to u-18 players who I have also never heard of or even know if they're still Spurs players...
Anybody knows anything about these players:
Brandon Austin, Charles Freeman, Donnie Longalonga, Ben Goodliffe, Rares Lazar (Romania), Jayden Quildón Parke (Colombia), Hector Kyprianou (Cyprus)

Spurs send squads to play in tournaments from quite young ages so its very likely that the site has found a tournament giving names of players then aged maybe 12 and listed them. Some will continue to be in Spurs academy (as @IGSpur says Brandon Austin et al) whilst others will not make the grade and be released before they enter the acemy proper at aged 16 or so.

His father Darren is now pushing for a much bigger contract. Marcus is very good friends with Reece Oxford at West Ham who is currently being paid £10k pw. Marcus is rated as one of the best in Europe for his age group and will be expecting a very good offer from Spurs. Lets see what DL offers.

I don't know much about what these kids get paid, and it's really hard to ever be sure they will actually have all the qualities (mentality, discipline etc) to make it but this kid seems different to me.

He has talent but also has that rare quality that is hard to describe. Like a presence on the pitch. The ball seems to magnetically find its way to him.

Like I said, it's hard to predict sometimes, but if his kid doesn't end up a not only making it, but a star I'll be fucking amazed.

He seems to have the brains and temprement to go with the enormous talent.

From what I know the Academy have raved about Onomah for years saying he's the stand out player that will break through. Marcus is also being spoken about in a similar way. It's vital we lock him down on a longer contract.

We may do already. A lot of the youngsters who have made it watch their games, and if you read a the academy monthly profiles on the website a lot of them talking about the best person to watch in training is one of Kane, Mason or Bentaleb. I think they do talk to one another and inspire each other. From what I gather about Edwards is he is quite head strong and knows how good he is, what he wants and that he can make it elsewhere. He has had many offers. I think we just need to convince him he is at the right club and show him some love tbh. We're in a difficult position as we have sooo many good youngsters which is a pro and a con in some ways it's about giving them game time but that can create issues. Luckily he has a lot of friends here so that will help

Once we get them to pen that first academy contract how secure are they? Can they still be poached @Spursidol ?
Wants they sign the pro contract when they are 17 then they are secure, players who sign academy contracts(sign as a scholar 1st, 2nd and 3rd years) aren't as safe

Don't know about others but Domininc Solanke is getting paid more than Bentaleb, so some clubs will throw money at players. Ours unsurprisingly get a pittancee in comparison

TBH £10k isn't that much

Just need to look at Chelsea paying the likes of Christiansen for £20k to £30k and etc

I can see us paying him it, his dad is suppose to be a spurs fan and so is he, so lets see

Cool. So depending on when they were born they can be offered a pro contract towards the end of their first year but defintely at the start of the 2nd year

I think it's good we don't pay youngsters ridiculous contracts, I think good to keep them down. I mean a 16 year old earning £10,000/week is frankly outrageous

Unfortunately Chelsea are on another level. They organise and pay taxis for U10 players to travel to and from training at Cobham. It's madness.

One kid in particular travels from Cambridge by taxi for every training session.

I do like that too and I think it keeps them motivated. I think it was @beats1 that said already one Chelsea player has fallen off the rails a bit as he was given loads of money just for being in their academy. Additionally though, I don't know how much of that 10k would be Edwards or go to his family for other things.

Technically speaking he wouldn't be 16, he would be 17 and just to put this in the same context. Wilshere made his debut at that age as well

Most youth pro contracts start from £1k per week

I agree but that isn't the point, I don't think we should give Edwards the full £10k either, I would give him a performance based one, with increases when he makes his debut and etc.

However at 17, he can be loaned as well so he would potentially be a first team player for a different team like Kane, Mason, Townsend and Caulker were

For example at 18 Miquel was paid £5k by Arsenal

The question is, how much would Levy pay him, had he signed him from another club like Parrett or Bostock

16, 17, 18 and even 19 to earn £10,000/week is crazy

Chelsea think that they are stockpiling the best talent and paying them ridiculous money, but the combination of Jose not trusting young players and the fact that having too much too soon will ruin most youngsters. It's pretty toxic really. 99% will just end up being a massive waste of young talent.

I would love us to go back to the system of youngsters being paired up with a pro and cleaning their boots and sorting their kit, etc. I think a lot of the parents would be drawn to our academy if we did it, because the ones with common sense know that not having to ever do a proper day's work could harm the development of their lads.
