Oduwa looks like he has the physical attributes to play up top, and considering the lack of competition there could he get any games in that position for the first-team?

That finish in Ledley's testimonial was quality.

The Under-18s will play in a friendly tournament from 30 July - 1 August. Other teams include Liverpool, Man Utd and Ipswich. #THFC

Eurofoot tournament (u18/19 traditional season opener) seems to have closed down so this seems to be the replacement.

U18's seem to be heading to Belgium tomorrow for a training camp

He says he can play anywhere in the front 4, he's played mainly LW but played no 10 for Eu18's (or 19's I forget which) and looked very very gpod. He played RW for Luton a couple of times - probably better on left but that may be lack of practice on right.

Cannot recall ever seeing him as striker, but he's got most of the physical attributes, could be interesting to see that tried.

But I agree with you that he's very good at dribbling from deep and beating his man, going left centre or even rigfht

It is a bit concerning, Onomah and Edwards seem to be 2 generations of the best player with the same issue. It seems crazy that we would spend all the money on developing a world class training facility and academy infrastructure only to see the players leave for the sake if 10 grand a week.

@IGSpur do you think it's going to be a huge problem going forward? There was news that west ham are paying Edwards British peers at a much higher rate... Hopefully we can stay fluid in terms of what we offer.

Would be horrible to produce a generation and see them all playing for different clubs.. Like west hams..

Lampard - Chelsea
Carrick - us/ Utd
Cole - Chelsea
Defoe - us
Ferdinand - Utd

Would hate that.

Do you mean paying their academy players more? I don't know how concerned I am yet. At the moment these are just rumours but I do fear that the clubs that know their academies could start targeting us as we have the most talent available but allegedly don't pay them as much. But like you said look at the talent they released. They let them players go as they could not afford them but those players ended up being better than anything they could buy in the future, so maybe if they had invested back then they would never have gotten relegated and may have even challenged for CL places. If they bought around them

Something similar KingSRV alluded to is happening at WBA. They let Izzy Brown, Jerome Sinclair and Yan Dhanda go (or they were pinched) and currently have Tyler Roberts coming through and I think a couple more top strikers, Nabi springs to mind as a name. Not to mention Berahino. The level these kids could all get to, would be a lot better than any striker they could realistically buy so they could argue they should pay the money it takes to keep them and show them a route to the first team.

And Fryers was never good or very highly rated, he looked the worst out of the defenders we had that season and yet he got more minutes than anyone out of that team initially

It seems money talks and if an investment isn't working out, we are prepared to give it a chance to recoup some money

Agree about Fryers. It was the classic give them an opportunity in the Carling Cup knowing they can handle the level. Instantly their desirability and value goes up regardless of how good they are, and people signing them suddenly believe they are PL ready. It's one reason we also need to do this as it helps loans and selling off players when it comes to it. As it was he was no better than we had coming through and we went through the whole legal wrangle to get him

Will Hughes made his Debut at 17 for Derby and he is a highly rated youngster and Bentaleb made his debut at 19, yet is far superior to Hughes 18 months later, so I don't think it's as simple as that.

Yes but I think at the same age Hughes was rated higher than Bentaleb and that is the massive issue. Before Bentaleb was handed his debut I saw quite few people wanting us ti sign him and believing he was a better player than Bentaleb. Bentaleb's circumstance was rare and most people even Spurs fans at the time would probably say Hughes was a better player while we would have been wanting Bentaleb to be given a chance. If Sherwood never gave him that chance we may never have seen how good Bentaleb was or been able to prove that he was better than Hughes.

The same situation has happened with cases like Bishop, and to a lesser extent Alli. I'm not doubting their ability but the standard of club they have come through has allowed them to get league football and show themselves off. People, sadly don't care how good they look at youth level or who's better all that matters is who has played League football and they instantly become better than another prospect in some people's eyes. The only time they are at a level playing field, in England camps there is no discernible difference but more times the players at the top clubs academies with no league football will look better than those playing in the Championship and below but will never get their opportunities. I gave this example when talking about us signing Alli. And I think this is the example @beats1 was talking about. It seems that coming through our academy counts against the player when it comes to actually breaking into the first team, and a better route could be just to move onto a weaker club and display your skills there knowing you will play for them. This is what I think @rabbikeane means when he says going through the youth system would count against them.

In the whole u19/18 age groups Roberts as you know was by far the most outstanding talent and those two age groups are very talented, but from being at Fulham and barely getting games in the Championship there will be people unaware of youth football who would doubt his talent and think Demarai Gray was better than him.

Good news on Oduwa yesterday. He had a similar season to Veljkovic and Ogilvie, in terms of it being injury plagued and struggle to hit his old form and dropped down in the pecking order in people's minds. At Luton though he showed he still had it and reaslitcally could have been an option off the bench. He was and still is one of the best players in that age group and as it stands has the best chance in coming through next season. I said I would love him to have a good preseason as it could really affect where he starts out next year and as we need wingers so he has less peop[le blocking him.

It seems that he has already started playing well, and as smoeone else highlighted, Onomah was training without a bib like the other first teamers and so was Oduwa. The fact that he started the other day suggests he is being worked into the first team in the absence of a left winger as Chadli and Eriksen aren't there and he is taking advantage of Pritchard's injury. Let's hope he keeps it up.

I have also thought he'd be a decent striker as he started out there but the fact that he can create for himself and has pace and power, has always convinced me he could do a job there.

Oduwa was very good the only time I've seen him play, at Ledleys testimonial. Promising.

Cheeky finish impressive composure infront of such a big crowd.

Thought I'd post this as well. Considering how good the intake has been recently, it says a lot about the up coming lot, but as we've discussed already we know how talented this group is.

Samuel King ‏@KingSRV Jul 11
Of the other academies THFC probably have the strongest intake, although City have not yet confirmed the futures of Brahim and Beerman.

Nope Coulibaly, he also scored in his appearance(which to be fair he has always been good at)

http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/Crew...ants/story-26882384-detail/story.html[/QUOTE]

Interesting, he has been there 2 weeks but we also think he played for Spurs v Southend 2 days ago.

At least its a League 1 loan with a club who have a reputation for developing youngsters. Hope he shines there as he's now 20, 21 in November so pretty much his last loan from Spurs if he's going to stand a chance of making it with us. Had hoped he would be with Spurs all pre-season and see how he coped given our limited striking options before Kane returns from his post u21 break
