Of course he faaackin did. 6 in 8 for him.

Think I read before this game he had scored 8 in his last 15 games in competitive matches probably including end of last season. That's now 9 in 16. Don't know what Morata's record is but it can't be that much better than Kane's with arguably better teammates around him

I still don't see all the hype with Beharino. He scores goals but so did Darren Bent...

Far more technically gifted than Bent IMO. You'd never have been able to stick Bent at LW and have him provide an assist of the quality Berahino did tonight. He's also got pace and is a decent dribbler.

So as Fredericks has never played in a U21 qualifier, and turns 22 in a few days, he will never get to play for the England U21's?
No I said it wrong, the player has to be 21 at the time of the national's teams first qualifier according to wiki.

So as the first qualifier was in september 2013, Fredericks qualifies

Thought that too but maybe it's Spurs bias:

@England U21s v Croatia subs: Bond, Garbutt, Dier, Lascelles, Baker, Ince, Bamford. #EngvCro

Ince and Bamford have had more of an impact that Pritchard over a longer period so can kind of understand that. Dier and Lascelles are defenders but I have no idea about Garbutt and Baker.
TBF Garbutt and Baker shouldn't be there and Pritchard has been doing better this season than Bamford.

Ince has been poor imo

Well I'd say Veljkovic is the most likely, but I assume you mean players that have never been involved with the first team squad thus far.

We have PLENTY of talented players in the academy, but most likely as of now due to injury situation would prob be KWP. If Naughton is injured and Walker out. With Yedlin still not here and Fredericks on loan leaves us with Dier and Chirches who are both mainly CBs. If McQueen isn't used and they went on talent and potential KWP could come on as a sub or maybe start an EL or CC match (maybe). I'm going off the fact that a lot of managers are all talk. If Poch is serious about givign those who perform a chance over underperforming first teamers.

Then Winks or Onomah prob couldnt do worse than Paulinho (I supported him for a long time and still sort of do now, but if im honest he's showing nothing).

Oduwa as you said would be a threat from wide, and has shown that his abiltiy isnt purely down to size. Ogilvie, behind Rose and Davies if one gets injured. However, he has come off a layoff himself so would be too soon.

And I like Ball but if Veljkovic doesn't get a look in he def wouldnt this season.

Those are the most likely in favourable conditions i.e. injuries, confident manager, weakish opposition, or comfortable scorelines.

Otherwise I still think our squad is too big or it may be too soon.
I'd really love us to push this group, it's not for the sake of it they're clearly very talented, we're not winning the league anytime soon, 4th's a big enough struggle but a successful youth program has a better chance than an arms race that we have no chance of winning IMHO

Wtf never knew Kondogbia was still u21, just seen he scored tonight.

Came on at right back. Should have started the match imo. Much better than Keane that started the match.
I don't mind Keane but he got stitched up with a poor loan move, never going to get ahead of Mee and didn't do enough at his loans in the championship

Yedlin starting at RM in a 4-4-2 for the USMNT tonight against Ecuador. I think he could do a job for us in a similar, more attacking role, so it'll be fun to see how he fares tonight.

We've been talking about him on the Ligue 1 thread. I mentioned him last week after his game against PSG where I thought he was outstanding. Big future beckons for the boy I reckon.

Ince has been very poor this season, even with Spurs tinted glasses, its Pritchard on form over Ince for E u21 bench, but I'd also like to review the team selection playing

Of course I'd agree , but from a pragmatic stance with the Greek side up next in EL I would love to see :

1. At RB - play KWP so as to rest Dier for PL. Who else are the options (a) Stambouli - played all defensive positions for Montpellier last season, but this weakens CM, (b) Recall Fredericks but this reduces his education, tricky one. (c) Play Alex McQueen - but he seems out of sorts this season. This answers an injury need with one of the best u18 prospects - as RB his speed is lilkely to overcome any defensive failings

2. At CM - Play Veljkovic alongside Fazio, dropping Chirchies whose performances have been worse than Veljkovic or Ball. At HT/60 minutes either bring on Ball in place of Milos or Fazio depending on how the match is going - idea is to give much needed experience for both Serbian u21 Captain Milos and England u20 CB Ball. Maybe repeat this against Brighton in Capital One Cup.

3. Have on the bench Nathan Oduwa - imo the only forward in Spurs youth ready to step up. And on 60/70 minutes replace either Lennon or Paulhino as wide forward or no 10. We need good AM's and are short of them - good opportunity to test out one we have immediately available !

I f we did this we would bring 4 players into the squad in positions we need - we have many more youngsters but atm these are imo the best answers to bring into the first team.

Other potential players to step up (and not on loan) include Ogilvie (LB/CB), Onomah (CM/AM), Winks (CM) and many more. But blooding Ball, KWP and Oduwa would be both a good and pragmatic start,

U18 preview vs brighton

“It’s been a really good week with the international break, some boys have been training up with the first team and made a good impression"

Youth team fixtures against the Seagulls have been few and far between in recent years, meaning many of our youngsters will be facing the South Coast club for the first time.

Under-18s coach Kieran, who expects squad rotation to come into play owing to the international break, says an interesting game is in prospect.

“I don’t think we’ve played Brighton in a competitive game at youth level for quite a while so it will be a new challenge,” he said.

“They’ve obviously got a footballing culture running through their club in terms of how they want to play so they’ll come here and want to impose their style. We’ll do the same, though, so it should be a good game and it will hopefully be a chance for some different players.

“It’s been a really good week with the international break, some boys have been training up with the first team and made a good impression and some could be involved in the Under-21 match at Norwich on Tuesday night.

“That means it’s a chance for some different players to come in on Saturday and make their impression, so it should be an exciting game.”
