I've adored this series; absolute pure theatre from start to finish. Some excellent Cricket played by both sides and some fairly average stuff at times too, primarily in the form of decision making at key times, but I guess that's what elite-level sport often comes down to.

I've absorbed as much of this series as I can, even pretty much ignoring The Open last weekend, despite my obsession/adoration for that fucking daft/maddening game!

Whatever is said in front of the media, morale in the England camp may have taken a slight dip seeing as we are now unable to win the urn back. I really hope we continue into this match in the same vain and send them home with a proper bloody nose; a 3vs1 loss in the record books would not be a true reflection on this series. We've properly rocked them, no question.

Day 2 at Old Trafford; in all of my years watching Cricket, I have never seen anyone do that to Australia. They were a clueless mess and had no idea how they were going to take the wicket; they couldn't even stop the bleeding. Day 2 at Old Trafford is what they used to do to us, and it will have hurt them.

Regardless of the result of this series, the tide has turned, and long may that continue.

I remember watching this live at the time. Strangely, for someone who was a left arm quick and big hitting batsman, for some reason Atherton was my absolute cricketing hero. It was absolutely electric viewing, I was only around 15 at the time maybe, I remember turning up for senior cricket training that evening and one of the senior players remarking that if there had been hardcore porn on the other channel, they wouldn’t have turned over !

EDIT - they missed out the part where an incredibly angry Donald got over the disappointment of Bouchers drop and ran up from fine leg next over to give him a pat on the bum

Rewinding a few posts where I said that as far as I was aware, we didn't have another test match until next summer, the tour of India has finally been confirmed with some surprising (well surprising according to the Beeb, i've no idea) 'smaller' venues.

England in India in 2024

First Test - 25-29 January (Hyderabad)

Second Test - 2-6 February (Vizag)

Third Test - 15-19 February (Rajkot)

Fourth Test - 23-27 February (Ranchi)

Fifth Test - 7-11 March (Dharamsala)

By the forecast, looking like it'll start on time today, with some disruption later in the day.

Would have picked Anderson for the last test but after another poor performance with the ball and in the field I’d have dropped him for this 5th test

Hope he proves lots of us wrong but it sadly looks like time has finally caught up with him and there is no room for sentiment when drawing an Ashes series is at stake

I think they would have wanted that. England would have bowled. They wanna chase. Throw them out (just a little).
BUT.......We need to bowl well this first session.
Yep, let’s hope Cummins still looks frazzled and Starc’s radar is off - then we get 5 full days Cricket and it turns like a bastard on the last day 👍🏼

With the conditions as they are (overcast and humid), I can see the ball swinging a fair bit which plays in to Cummins/Starcs' hands.

btw not sure where you are in Oz but my mates boy is flying over for the winter (summer!) to play for the North Sydney Bears

Looks like a cracking cricket club?
Fantastic for him. I am in Adelaide but know lots and lots of lads from England come over here. Joe Root being an old boy.
I hope he does well and he will learn a ton.
